It's been since last year since I posted one of these, mainly due to time constraints and I figured the year off would reduce the amount of bandwith used around here (apparently these posts were not missed either since Bill C. does such a great job breaking down the numbers anyway).

Any way, the pod Mizzou is in has a very unfamiliar MEAC foe, a future SEC conference mate whom the Tigers have never faced and an ACC team that has handled Mizzou in the past.

Because we are so used to "I'm a jayhawk", "Boomer Sooner", "Wildcat Victory" and the other fight songs of the Big 12, I thought we could delve into the world of SEC Fight Songs.

Two rules here...first these are the "official" fight song of each University (so no "Rocky Top" or "Glory to Old Georgia") with the "official" lyrics and two I don't own the copyrights to any of these...I'm just posting them here for reference...Most of these songs are available on the sports website of the University they represent anyway.

As many of you know, the Baseball team won the first game in Lincoln and sent NU off to the Big 10.  The Cornpones plus the Chickenhawks failed to qualify for the Big 12 Tournament in OKC. Mizzou ended up with the 8th seed.

The tournament format has changed BACK to the double-elimination format it was for the first ten years of the tournament.  Mizzou is in the Bracket "A" with #1 seed Texas, #4 Oklahoma State and #5 Baylor.

This year's First Second Round match-up is against the Cincinnati Bearcats.  Ol' Mizzou has NEVER faced this team from the Big East.  It should be an interesting game for the Missouri Tigers.

I am doubling this up due to the fact that I believe that the Missouri Tigers will end Pat Knight's tenure as Texas Tech Red Raiders coach and move on to face Texas A & M Aggies.  Mizzou is more than capable of beating Tech.  I know it in my Black and Old Gold heart! I also think that it will be WAY too late after the game ends on Wednesday for me to post anything of note before the game on Thursday.

As you all may know, Mizzou vs. TTU is not half bad.  Mizzou has NEVER lost to Tech on a Neutral Court.  In fact, within the borders of the great state of Missouri, TTU is 2-8 against the Tigers.  I believe that these trends will continue. (They have)

NOW that leaves the Tigers with the thorn-in-the-backside Texas A&M Aggies.  Mizzou has not beaten A&M ever under CMA.  BUT the Tigers have NEVER lost to A&M on a Neutral Court either.  One of these trends will continue in KC.  And I think I know which way the Tiger Faithful will lean...

Well, that was not how the Missouri Tigers wanted the game to end at Manhattan.  Next up...the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln.  If the Tigers don't want to make the kU game mean the entire season and a Big 12 bye, they HAVE to win at Nebraska.

The final round with the 'Huskers...Will Mizzou end this series on a good note like the win over CU in CoMO?

Now that the Missouri Tigers have taken out Baylor, they have a historically and currently tough two game road swing through Manhattan, KS and Lincoln, NE.  To beat the Kansas State Wildcats, the Tigers HAVE to be tougher and more accurate than they were in Ames last Saturday. AND they have to do it with a morning tip-off. The Unholy Alliance is officially suspended until around 1 pm CST Saturday.  (for more on the 'Cats go to Bring On The Cats)

Will the Tigers dash K-State's hopes at a Big 12 Champinoship First Round bye, or will Mizzou crack under the pressure of the Octogon fo Doom?

The Missouri Tigers vs. the K***** Chickenhawks.  You need not say anymore to people in this region and know a blood bath is about to occur.  Unfortunately, Mizzou has NOT faired well in the basketball series.  Mizzou has yet to get to 100 wins in the all time series despite it being played 262 times.

CMA has not fared well against kU, 1-7 since took over at Mizzou.  Will he break the losing string?

The Missouri Tigers host the Colorado Buffaloes for the last time (unless CU develops a hankering to play non-conference games agaist MU).  For more on CU go to The Ralphie Report!

Mizzou and Colorado have been conference rivals since 1948 (that is the first year they were in the Big Seven Conference after CU had been in the Skyline Conference for years).

Unless Mizzou meets and beats CU in the Big 12 Tournament, Mizzou most likely (considering their home acumen) will end the series with 99 wins.

Well, after the awful game in Austin, the Missouri Tigers travel to the Snake Pit known as Gallager-Iba Arena for a date against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.  For more info on OSU, go to Cowboys Ride For Free.  The Cowboys have not been very formidable this year and this could be an opportunity for Mizzou to get back to above .500 in Conference play.

The Missouri Tigers vs. the Texas Longhorns.  Missouri has a week to prep for the game while the 'Horns (fresh off of their FIRST ever win at kU) has to go to Oklahoma State.  Given the fact that OSU does not seem to be to good this year, I expect the 'Horns to GORE...GORE...GORE (Denmoney to the person(s) who gets this particular subtext AND actually comment on it!) the 'Pokes in Stillwater.  But stranger things have happened to Rick Barnes teams (cough...Tech a couple years ago). As for Mizzou, they have taken apart the last two teams they have faced (although it was only KSU and ISU) at home.  The Tigers HAVE to get a road victory either at Austin or Stillwater on the Wed. after next or just be an also-ran for the Big 12 title.

As many of you know the Iowa St. Cyclones have hired their favorite son Fred Hoiberg to coach this team.  He has been called "The Mayor" due to the fact he is an Ames native and could have run for mayor and won it back in his playing days.  The Cyclones (their SBN blog is Clone Chronicles) have struggled against the Missouri Tigers since CMA took over. Mizzou is 6-2 over the 'clones since CMA took the reins of this program.

As many of you also know, Missouri has historically been better than Iowa State in basketball (as indicated by the 145-84 series lead the Tigers maintain.) But it is NEVER easy against ISU anywhere.

The Missouri Tigers vs. the Kansas State Wildcats (KSU's info at their wonderful SBN blog: Bring On The Cats) is a LONG running series and as tight as they come! Suspension of the UnHoly Alliance until after the game is a given!

The game at Mizzou Arena this year has HUGE implications for both teams.  Mizzou and KSU are both 1-2 in the league, and with kU showing signs of NOT battering opponents into the ground by halftime recently, gives BOTH teams hopes of a regular season Conference Championship despite the early conference returns.  Colorado notwithstanding, the winner of this game has a shot at the Championship.  And things seem MORE dire for KSU due to the fact that the 'Cats have not been as good out of League play and need to pile up wins for the NCAA tournament consideration.  Plus KSU still has to GO to CU (and given the fact that the Buffaloes seem to be for REAL makes that an even more daunting task than usual).  Mizzou needs to win EVERY home game and win 4 of the last 6 conference road games to even think about the league title.

The Missouri Tigers vs. the Texas A&M Aggies has been a NIGHTMARE for Tigers and their fans for over SIX years now.  No matter how good Mizzou is, they have not been able to beat the Aggies ANYWHERE since sweeping the Aggies 2-0 in the 2004 season! (Remember LAST year when A&M broke Mizzou's home court winning streak?)

Anywho...the series is relatively a small sampling (only 19 games total between the two programs) and considering that A&M has been horrible in basketball for most of their history, it's about the right amount of times the teams have faced each other.  It will get real interesting for both teams when they face each other twice on purpose starting next year.

Mizzou vs. NU for the last time at Mizzou Arena.  Doc Sadler's slow play approach vs. the Fastest 40 Minutes. It's always been a close battle IF Mizzoun allows it to play slow.  And considering that the Tigers just got beat at their own game in Boulder, I expect a fired up team and crowd for this match up on Wed. (the last without students on campus.)  For NU info go here: Corn Nation.

This will probably be the last dual instalment of this year's series until the NCAA Tournament because the Conference matchups quite honestly have a TON to them.

Why Mizzou is facing a D-II school RIGHT before conference play is beyond me. I am hoping its becuase Mizzou Arena is such a terrifying place to play that no D-I school wants anything to do with Mizzou right before or early on in their conference season.  Mizzou's singular defense tends to mess you up for a game or two after you play it.
