Gallardo's location from last night. He looks to be leaving balls over the plate, and will need to work on that if he wants to continue his success.

Ohlendorf's Pitch F/x vs Marlins
Thought you guys might enjoy some Pitch F/x data from Ross Ohlendorf's start against the Marlins this evening.
Joakim Soria's movement from today vs. the Yanks. He struck out all three batters he faced.
That curveball is awesome.
Note: First real attempt at Pitch F/x graph. Criticism is welcome.
Joakim Soria's pitch movement from today's game against the Yankees. His curveball was sick.

Coors is way up there. No surprises here.
Sources: Adenhart Dead at 22
The above link is TMZ, and here is a local news story on the issue. The local news story says a family member confirms the story.
RIP. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
"Cops say someone driving a minivan blew through a red light, causing the Mitsubishi that Adenhart was riding in to hit a light pole. Three people were killed in the crash, including Nick.
Cops say the person driving the van fled the scene -- but was later caught and charged with felony hit-and-run. The suspect is currently being treated for injuries in a local hospital.
We're told one of the other men killed in the crash was also affiliated with the Angels organization."

Chad Cordero ---> M's
I'll have a full story posted soon, but we've learned that the Mariners have reached an agreement with former All-Star closer Chad Cordero on a minor-league deal.
Cordero is coming off major shoulder surgery (torn labrum) last July, so he's not ready to pitch yet, but it's a solid gamble for the future. If he returns to health -- and the Mariners have had a scout monitoring his throwing sessions for the past month, and like what they see -- he could easily wind up as their closer. This guy saved 47 games to lead the National League in 2005, and he's just 26 (he turns 27 in a few days).
Cordero should be in camp by the weekend. He became a free agent in October when the Nationals took him off their 40-man roster. He made $6.2 million last year.
UPDATE: The Mariners have officially announced the deal. It's a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training. Cordero is expected in camp on Friday.
Here's a quote from Jack Zduriencik:
"We are going to take it one step at a time, but we are optimistic that Chad can help us this season," Zduriencik said. "Chad has been a quality Major League closer and we look forward to his contributions to our ballclub in 2009."

Rocco Baldelli is a class act
From the AP, via the Boston Herald.
former Tampa Bay outfielder Rocco Baldelli wants Rays fans to know how much he appreciated their support over the past nine years.
Baldelli, who played in the World Series after missing most of last season because of a mitochondrial disorder that causes fatigue, took out a half-page ad in the St. Petersburg Times to express his gratitude this week.
"Nine years ago you welcomed me into your community. You greeted me as a name and embraced me as a person, and I leave you now as a friend," the sixth player selected in the 2000 amateur draft said in the handwritten ad, which appeared in Wednesday’s editions.
"Giving thanks is a difficult thing to do as I have crossed paths with so many extraordinary people, but I will try."
Baldelli is a class act. I know other players have done this in the past, but I cannot remember one in particular.
Tampa should be happy for this gesture. Hell, they are the ones who had no interest in Baldelli, yet he still loves 'em.
Re: Wakefield
After reading Allen's post about Tim Wakefield, I had some thoughts. First, from Allen's story:
I'll accept few arguments about Wakefield's status on the Sox.
If someone wants to say he shouldn't start in the playoffs, I'll say fine. We should have better options, on a game-by-game basis, among the combination of Lester, Becks, Daisuke, Smoltz, Penny, and perhaps Buchholz and Bowden. I'm not going to argue that his potential to dominate on a game-by-game basis is going to be better than any of those guys.
...
If someone wants to make the argument about wins and losses, I'll say STFU. Cause Hell no, I'm not listening to that punk-A bullS. If you don't know why that's the weakest argument about the way in which Wakefield himself contributes to this team, then we're as far apart as to be speaking different languages.
Felix gets $3.8 million, avoids arb
This according to Jayson Stark.
The Seattle Mariners have signed pitcher Felix Hernandez, who was eligible for arbitration for the first time, to a one-year contract worth $3.8 million.
The Mariners and the right-hander have explored multiyear deals over the last two offseasons, but without success. Hernandez can't become a free agent until after the 2011 season.
Arbitration Guesses?
With a few Mariners filing for arbitration, I was wondering what people think the players would get?
LaHair to try really hard
Jim Street reports that Bryan LaHair will do everything in his power to make the team. LaHair said:
I think I can be a run-producing guy in the lineup, because I have visualized myself being that kind of guy my whole life. I think there have only been a few times that I haven't been that guy. Who knows? Maybe I'm not that guy, but I truly, truly believe that with the right opportunity I think I can be that guy.
M's Name Minor League Coaches
The Mariners just named their minor league coaching staffs for 2009 and at first glance, there have been some changes. Daren Brown returns for a third season managing Class AAA Tacoma. Phil Plantier takes over as the new Class AA manager in West Tennessee. Plantier, in his second season with the M's organization, was a coach with the Diamond Jaxx last year. He replaces Scott Steinmann, who is now managing the lower level Class A team in Clinton.
Jim Horner is managing the higher level Class A squad in High Desert of the Califonia League.
Former big league catcher John Tamargo has joined the Mariners organization and will manage the rookie level Everett Aquasox, replacing Jose Moreno -- who has been reassigned to manage the Arizona League's entry level Peoria Mariners.
Rob Mummau returns to manage the Appalaichan League's Pulaski Mariners.
Russell Vazquez will manage the Venezuelan Summer League team.
Abreu An Option?
There has been some speculation about it from Tim Brown, and Tim Dierkes brought it up again in his chat today.
Mariners Event = Amazing
For those of you who decided not to attend the Mariners event yesterday, hosted by USSM and LL, you should be ashamed of yourself. The event was amazingly informative, and entertaining.
Derek at USSM ran his thoughts on the event last night, and I wanted to wait until after he posted to run mine (wanted to see what was off limits and such).
