CelticsBlog Glen Davis - Best 6th Man in the NBA

From Chris Thompson today at Bleacher Report:

Who is the best Sixth Man in the NBA? Is it Jamal Crawford? Is it Antwan Jamison? Or is it Ben Gordon?

Well, it actually isn't any of these. You would think big names like these would be the best sixth man in the NBA, but it is actually someone that not everybody knows. Some people call him Shrek. Others call him Big Baby. Now you should know who I am talking about.

Yes, Glen "Big Baby" Davis is indeed the best sixth man in the NBA. He brings so much to the Celtics off the bench. He brings hustle, skill, confidence, everything you would want from a star in the NBA.

Well, why is Big Baby the best sixth man in the NBA? For one, he has great hustle. Hustle is a key asset to being a good NBA player. The other day, I was watching the Celtics vs the Knicks and there was a loose ball. Well, Glen Davis was pretty far away and there were like four Knicks surrounding the ball. This is where Big Baby showed his hustle. He dove for the ball and we got it back. That is what everyone likes in a player, someone who is willing to sacrifice their body for one possession.

Next, Glen Davis is very strong and can move his body really well in mid-air. When Big Baby jumps up for the ball, he doesn't just try to grab it, he will fight for it. He can rip the ball out of Dwight Howard's hands if he wants to; I've seen him do it. But another thing that amazes me about Glen is that he can move his body in mid-air really well for a big man. When he goes up for a shot, half the time he will have to adjust his body to get the shot he wants and it goes in 99% of the time. He makes it look so easy.

Last, Big Baby can shoot the ball well. When he is open for a jumper, defending players wish that they didn't leave him open because Big Baby has long range. He can drain those shots just inside the arch and I even saw him drill a three pointer against the Knicks on Friday. He can shoot very well for a big man.

So, Big Baby is the best sixth man in the league. You may be thinking, heck no, but that would be a bad thought. Glen Davis is way underrated and it won't be long until he earns a starting spot for the Boston Celtics

CelticsBlog BENCH - BBD play was fantastic!

Couldn't let this game (Utah) go by without mentioning the way Baby played last night. When he stepped out on the court, he looked confident and in control and I had a feeling he was going to have a great game. And he sure did! Here is a portion of what was said on NBA.com/Celtics last night:

_______________________________________________________________________________________

FROM NBC/CELTICS.COM-Ford Keys to the Game:

"The one Celtic who has shown the greatest amount of hustle all season long has been Glen Davis, and he had that type of play on full display tonight, specifically in the first half. Davis finished the game with 13 points and five rebounds in only 19 minutes of play. Nine of those points came in a span of 3:30 of the first quarter, a time period in which he showed continual energy at both sides of the court. That spurt helped the Celtics build a lead going into the second quarter, but he and his teammates couldn't replicate that type of hustle and energy for the remainder of the game, allowing the Jazz to pull out another win at home."

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Until he got hit in the nose in the 3rd qtr (no foul called against Utah, unfortunately), he was our leading scorer and every play he made, whether blocking and causing the other team to foul, being able to get the shot up in the paint while being boxed with no defense coming to help, hitting 3 out of 4 field goals, hitting 7 out of 7 free throws, 5 rebounds and 1 assist, defending the basket and screening, he was amazing. We are definately going to need him in the playoffs. He is the most consistent player off the bench and always attempts to crash the offensive glass. He's usually the highest scorer off the bench also.

The starters just weren't out there and I think, on nights like these, we need to send in the bench. When I saw the 4th qtr. was not going anywhere, I wondered why Doc didn't put the bench in for the whole qtr.

CelticsBlog Laker fans throwing trash at their players

after losing to the Cavs doesn't bode well for the team. I wonder what the officials are planning for the next time this happens. It's bad karma, bad sportsmanship, and what comes out of this negativity is more of the same. I'm so glad to be a Celtics fan! We LOVE our team. Our team is selfless and understands that working together creates a win. Doc Rivers understands this and is a mentor, rather than a bullier. Our players are like soldiers; a band of brothers fighting for the same victory. This state of mind is essential to our success. Another way our players are like soldiers is that they can be the baddest, toughest and most physical team while at the same time being caring of their fellow players and fans, hardworking, dedicated and decent.

CelticsBlog Glen Big Baby Davis

Since Big Baby has been starting in place of Kevin Garnett and getting more playing time, he is proving all the critics dead wrong and I hope they are now humbled. He's just an incredible player and I believe he's going to be as big as KG one day. He's also got a great, funny personality and is talented in so many other ways. He's also HUMBLE, which I find refreshing and real! Anyone who has seen the last several games can see that he is not only a leader but a great team player. Go Big Baby. May you win your second Championship Ring this season. You deserve it!!!!!
