Lifting and Yoga
Hello Andrew,
I have to get back into lifting weights to help lower my cholesterol and have become interested in yoga as well. Can a person lift weights to add muscle and do yoga (specifically power or Ashtanga) without hindering the muscle building? I've always thought gymnast's had the perfect combination of size, strength and flexibility and that's what I'd like to strive for. How do they do it?
Thanks,
Michael
Losing mid-section weight
So I've gotten through 11 out of the 12 routines for the Hypertrphy I phase and for the most part things are looking good. However, the weight around my abs and sides seems to be sticking around (the spare tire).
I've always been slim (6'0", 175-180) and this weight is pissing me off because it really makes the gains I have made look bad.
So my question is how do I dump this stuff? You mention in NROL that running or cycling in addition to lifting is pretty pointless for losing weight and can even hault muscle gains. Is there a way to unload this spare tire and still add muscle?
Substitute barbell for dumbells in NROL
Lou,
You and Alwyn did a great job on the book. The question I have is, is it ok to substitute barbells for dumbells on exercises like dumbell incline bench press or dumbell shoulder presses? My dumbells only go to 35lbs. and its going to be a while before I can get heavier ones, but I have enough plates to go heavy on a barbell.
Thanks,
Michael
