Advertising for UFC 114
Is there anywhere that tracks the advertising for UFC PPV's. I know there are some sites that track the business side of MMA (not trying to plug a site here, but MMAPayout comes to mind), but it would be interesting to see the correlation between advertising for the PPV and the money/effort the UFC puts into it compared to the buy rates of the PPV's.
The reason i ask is because it seems like the effort/money the UFC has put into advertising UFC 114 is much more than most. I am watching the Suns-Lakers and they have had a lot of advertisements for the PPV. I have seen a lot of advertisements on other programs as well, and it seems much more than any other UFC PPV I can remember,
The big question is will this translate into more PPV buys than usual? Is the UFC advertising more for this PPV for any specific reason? I am sure there are theories out there, but it seems odd the amount of push that this PPV is getting.
Strikeforce debacle vs. Celtics fight from earlier in the day
It will be interesting to see how these 2 events are viewed in the next day or so. There was a minor scuffle during the Celtics game with Kevin Garnett involved, and can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGWUIEpwRc0. There are a couple of different things to pull from this (I think):
1. Compare the commentators reaction in this 10 minute clip vs. how Mauro and Gus reacted
2. If anything comes out of this against Strikeforce, will it be due to the nature of the event (professional fighters may be more likely to actually hit someone, as compared to NBA players who are very good at yelling at each other and talking)
3. Is there a different standard held to these 2 events? It seems much more accepted, or maybe the commentators are less shocked, during the Celtics game, as opposed to the reponse by the CBS commentators. Will the reactions by the commentators influence how these events are playeed out in the media?
TUF 3's Danny Abbadi a player?
I won't argue that this is very useless information, but i just happened to be cruising through the TV channels, and I happened upon a show on MTV called "Is she really Going Out With Him?". It is on MTV now (5:30 EST), and has Danny going out with some 18-year old girl, and showing that his life has not exactly prospered after his TUF appearance. Sorry i don't have any kind of link because I am not too savvy on how to do it, but hopefuly you can catch the episode if you have any desire to.
Jack Del Rio knows his UFC
I have never done one of these before, and i don't know how it works, but i read this quote from Jack Del Rio and thought it was kind of funny:
Though post-game X-rays on Maurice Jones-Drew's shin were negative, he's scheduled to undergo an MRI on Friday.
"He had a 'UFC shot' to the shin or lower leg and it's bruised," coach Jack Del Rio said. "Maurice was a little frustrated by the hit and he wanted to get his hands on the guy, I can tell you that." Quarterback David Garrard said Jones-Drew will be "ready to roll" for the opener, so the MRI is likely just precautionary. Stay tuned for Friday's update. Sep. 3 - 11:31 pm et
-source was the associated press.
I think this helps the mainstream argument. Either that or Jack Del Rio is a bad-a$$ coach for the Jaguars
