Testudo Times Coordinators

I think this has to be said. We got our O-Coordinator from LSU and our D-Coordinator from Southern Miss. Those two teams have a combined 2 losses this season. Maryland had 2 wins. Seems like we took somebody else's dead weight.

Worst part about watching games today is that I was actually happy the Terps weren't playing today. After three months of watching the team let me down game after game, I actually had a nice little Saturday.

Testudo Times James Franklin Gone?

James Franklin is 1 of 2 finalists for the Vandy job. The other coach being considered is Greg Roman, who is an assistant at Stanford. Vandy has expressed their desire to have a coach by the end of this weekend.

For a coach best known for his recruiting, and with Maryland not exactly tearing it up on the recruiting trail, I'd be interested to see how well Franklin does recruiting against Tennessee and having to bring in kids who meet the Vandy academic standards.

Testudo Times Long Rest

As I hunker down onto my couch for the next 12 hours of college basketball coverage on my second favorite Sunday of the year, I've started to ponder this years Terps team. One thing that has me really frightened is the long rest the Terps are facing before the tournament. Maryland closed out the season in tremendous fashion, and had a full schedule of games which had me glued to the TV for what seemed like every other night at one point. Maryland sat for a few days before traveling down to Greensboro, and laid a big stinker in terms of the shooting performance. Though JWill has shown tremendous growth, this is not a team that can bang it around down low. We live on the dribble penetration and the kick out to the open man. Eric Hayes has made a career off of this. When the open man can't hit that shot, we struggle (see GT first half). Maybe it was just a bad day, but I have to think the long rest threw the team's rhythm off. So I went back and looked at the schedule to see how the Terps do on long breaks.

Nova Loss - 5 days rest

Clemson Loss - 5 days rest

Duke Loss - 6 days rest

GT Loss - 6 days rest

I know that I'm picking and choosing my losses and all 4 of these are tournament caliber teams, but the fact that half the losses came after a long rest scares me. The team will be sitting for potentially a week entering the tournament and will need to hit the ground running in that opening game. What are your thoughts?

Testudo Times ACC Title?

I need some of your expert analysis here Broman. I'm looking at the ACC standings and Duke sits 11-2 while we are 11-3 in ACC play. Florida State is currently in 3rd with a game in hand over the remaining teams, and plays Clemson, Wake, and @ Miami down the stretch. Our 2 wins over FSU would definetly help us in tiebreaker situations. If we beat Duke on Wednesday and both teams win out (we beat UVA and Duke beats UNC), what are we looking at? What chips need to fall in place for us to claim that elusive ACC title?

Testudo Times Under Armour Coaching Carousel

Texas Tech announcing tomorrow they signed Tommy Tuberville to be their new head coach, replacing Mike Leach. There are only a few Under Armour schools right now, and I think its more than just a coincidence that Texas Tech, a UA school, signed Tuberville, who used to coach at Auburn (also a UA school). I know Leach seems to have quite a few skeletons in his closet, and is a complete nut that plays Dungeons and Dragons and loves pirates, but the guy can flat out coach. If Fridge and Franklin don't get it done this season, Plank has to want to pull Leach into his top priority UA school in Maryland. Definitely seems like UA is starting to try to build loyalty and connections between their schools, and this can only help UMD as the company grows.

Here's hoping we finally get some cool looking unis like Oregon...
