Cole Rohrbaugh

Does anyone know what happened to Rohrbaugh? I can't figure out what's happened to him.

I was hoping he would accompany Tommy Hanson's meteoric rise up the ladder. Instead it looks like Medlen is next up.

I've checked the Rome newspapers, all the blogs and everything else I could think of, but I can't find anything definitive on Rohrbaugh. Hammy injury was one rumor. Shoulder/elbow was another.

Anyhow, if anyone has any intel on Sweet Cole I'd appreciate it.

Hiroki Kuroda -- next Dice-K or next Kei Igawa?

Kuroda makes it official; he's headed to the U.S.

Hiroki Kuroda has decided to pursue free agency, so you can look for the Mariners to be active in the pursuit of the 32-year-old Japanese right-handed starting pitcher.

Kuroda told his old team, the Hiroshima Carp, that he was opting out of the last three years of his four-year contract and would try to find work in the U.S.

As a first step, he's leaving Japan this weekend to fly to the U.S. to have his right elbow checked. Teams who are interested in Kuroda -- the Mariners and the Cubs are at the top of the list -- are going to want to make sure his elbow is sound before negotiations go too much further.

Seattle insiders see Kuroda, who has a mid-90s fastball, as possibly a No. 3 or No. 4 man in the rotation.

The Mariners will be looking for at least one or more likely two starting pitchers this winter after Jeff Weaver and Horacio Ramirez didn't pan out in 2007.

Out of these three guys, how would you rank them in terms of production/overall numbers within the next five years (starting at the beginning of next season)?

Obviously Gordon and Upton have the better pedigree in terms of John's grades and position on most prospect lists over the last few years, but the way Pence played in the first half moves him up.

What's the correct order? Upton, Gordon, Pence....?

The focus is on Wlad Balentien, saying he has matured as a hitter.

As an M's fan, I'd be delighted to see the kid cut down on his Ks, gain better strike zone judgement and, potentially be a big bat for years to come.

Does anyone think he'll be able to further refine his game and become better than the Grade C John gave him in the book? Will he be better, equal to, or worse than the "...Curacao version of Rob Deer"?

I've got to trim my roster down to 10 keepers in a 16-team, points-based league. I like the idea of keeping Drew, Gordon, and Hamels based on their potential, but still can't pick the three guys I should drop.

Burroughs was signed by the Mariners to a minor league deal and will be a non-roster invitee to spring training.

Is there anyone out there who thinks this kid can rebound and turn into the star everyone thought he'd be?

If in fact he does finally develop, that would make beltre expendable.

rookies/minor leaguers -- keeper question

i play in a points-based league (everything under the sun counts except for errors), total of 16 teams with 10 keepers at season's end. of my young players/minor leaguers on my roster, how would you rank these players?

Stephen Drew
B.J. Upton
Matt Kemp
Cole Hamels
Mike Pelfrey

i'd probably say drew, pelfrey, upton, kemp, and finally hamels.

the dodgers' outfield situation appears unresolved with a number of players vying for very few spots next season, and i'm not sure kemp will be able to win the CF job.
