Trade Shaun Hill?
Heard some buzz lately about the Lions possibly trading Shaun Hill out for a pick, assuming the lockout is worked out before the draft begins. Teams that are interested: Seahawks, 49ers (new regime), and the Bills. I'd be comfortable with it for this reason, clearly Drew Stanton can be a viable back up, plain and simple. Also, it shows that we have some faith in Matt to stay healthy, which is a big deal. Let's bounce Hill for a 3rd rounder and grab a receiver that can be our No. 2, and move Burleson to the slot where he should be. Do you guys think it'd be worth it? We only gave up a seventh rounder for him a little over a year ago.
Akeem Ayers
I swear to goodness Mel Kiper has lost it. He has Ayers as his top remaining player, had the Lions taking him at 13 a few weeks ago...and a las, has NOT, i repeat, NOT included him in his 2nd round mock. That makes so much sense Mel. What a joke. I want a job like that. In any case, Ayers will go in the 2nd, and if he went to the Lions, I would be very pleased. Who do you guys want in the 2nd round?
Oh, here's the link to his mock. http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2011/insider/news/story?page=KiperRoundTwoMock\
Can't wait for tonight. Go Lions!
Peterson?
Arizona clearly wants out of the number 5 pick, throw in our second rounder, I think they'd happily move down to 13 and take whatever quarterback falls. What do you guys think, give up a second rounder to get possibly the best CB in the draft in over a decade? This move would definitely sure up the defensive backfield with Peterson, Phonz and Houston. But is it worth sacrificing the depth for the future, and possibly a linebacker with the second round pick.

If we can...
Win ugly; I believe we can win beautifully as well. This game meant so much to Schwartz, and all of the young players that were inches away from becoming Lionized like so many that have come before them. With Stafford back, add a group of energized young players, and veteren LEADERS like Corey Williams and VandenBosch, i really think we can be not just a good team, but a great team. Seeing Calvin and Schwartz hugging after the game, erased the "Trade Calvin" thoughts I had earlier in the week.
Good win team, good threading guys, lets get along a little better :P
GO LIONS :)
Serious Issue with the NFL
Dear Roger Goodell,
Okay, the Cowboys just scored in the third quarter making it 21-12, just to verify that I am not upset at the end of the Lions game because they may or may not have lost.
ANYWAYS, I have a serious issue with the legitmacey of the league. Bryan McCann cleary stepped out of bounds on that punt return, if they had called it correctly, the Cowboys would have needed to earn the last 40 yards to the endzone.
Second of all, on the Felton fumble, there were 12 Cowboys on defense, which would have been a 15 yard penalty, instead, the Cowboys get the ball back and score. Making it 21-12.
I don't understand why the Lions get the short end of the stick in EVERY game they play, besides the Pre-season. Just look at the penalties, I understand we make quite a few mistakes, but not all of them need to be called.
Sincerly,
a concerned fan of Football.
---UPDATE: PS: Did you see the hair being pulled? Yeah...that is LEGAL. Horse-collar my ass.
AND how can that play not be reviewable? He was clearly still moving forward. Way to go Mr. Goodell, at least when we had Tagliabue, the game was played correctly, and was watchable.
------UPDATE AGAIN: PS: Ummm...another Horse-collar tackle? Wow. That was on the side of his jersey.
So close to giving up on the NFL :(
Wade cut to make room for Rayner
http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2010/11/detroit_lions_cut_jonathan_wad.html
I like the decision, wade played well on a few snaps, and played absolutely idiotically on all the others. He will not be missed.
The Phonz makes me feel good about the secondary, and CC Brown has been playing relatively well; even though the other corners are still shaky. Blah...still feeling effects from sunday :(
At least we can look forward to an entertaining game against the Bills. Go Lions!
C'mon Guys
Listen, no matter how easy it is to say the season is over; and no matter how easy it is to say Stafford's durabilty will be the downfall of this team. Let's all take a big step back and think about this for a moment.
Next week we play who? Oh, that's right...the 0-8 Buffalo Bills. No matter who is at the helm at quarterback, I am very confident we can put on a show similar to the one we had against St. Louis earlier in the season. Our defense is playing too well, and our offense, regardless of who's at quarterback, should have enough firepower to out play the no name Bills defense.
Also, I would like to stress that Stafford simply was not one hundred percent from the start of this game, he looked pale at times, and didn't seem to be all there. Maybe he's dealing with a lot of pain, maybe he's just rattled. Regardless, I think the Lions need to bring in someone like Steve Young, or hell, even Vinny Testeverde, and teach Matt a few things about falling down the proper way. He is literally killing the fans out there. And the Ford's wallet. In any case, I don't think its time to push the panic button quite yet; he's still our franchise guy, and with a pinch of luck, he will be for a long time. If he is injured for an extended period of time again, it may be time to pull the plug on the Matthew Stafford experiment, but until then, we should all give him our blessing.
And another thing, we play the Bills, and then the Cowgirls. Even though I think the boys are better than their record shows, I'm not quite sure us fans could handle watching a dismantling by the hands of Mr. Kitna, I'm sure we'll come to play, and play hard.
So then we are looking at a 4-6 record going into Thanksgiving. The Patriots just lost to the Browns, and for all intentional purposes, the Lions are a hellluva lot better than the Browns.
Call me a Kool-Aid drinker, or whatever. But I'm taking an honest step back, looking at the schedule, looking at what we did to the Rams, with a backup quarterback I may add, and being objective.
Any objections?

Schedule Thoughts
Every game is at 1pm or earlier. Only one nationally televised game, which is normal for us "kool-aid" drinkers. No Monday or Thursday night game, no more 4 o'clock games. Season starts September 12, does that seem late to anyone else?
No more wasting a Sunday afternoon waiting until a 4 o'clock game though, and only 2 CBS games. I'm looking forward to the Philadelphia game, and...opening the season with a victory against Da bears.

Ronnie Brown?
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/379787-detroit-lions-seriously-considering-ronnie-brown
Considering Linehan used to coach Brown, I feel comfortable with his move, although, I would only want it if Mayhew could work out a deal for the 3rd round pick, or maybe a 2nd next year. The Fins just traded Ginn though, so I don't really expect them to be very active until after the draft. Any ideas? I included a poll in this one, so we can get a general consensus for Mayhew to refer to, ;)
Eagles want to move up
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/379752-king-eagles-want-to-trade-up-for-a-safety
Could the Lions be a possible trade partner? I'm not sure what the compensation would be, but maybe offering the 24th, 37th, and a later round pick, and throwing in newly resigned RFA, Jason Avant? They could Guarentee shot to nab Eric Berry if they think he's a much better prospect than Thomas. Future Ed Reed (Berry) vs. Future Troy Polamalu (Thomas).
See anything of real possibility here?
Lions + 49ers or Bills = Trade?
The 49ers own the 13th, and 17th overall selections in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Lions own the 2nd overall selection, and have no need for a quarterback after drafting QB Matthew Stafford number one overall last year. The 49ers, on the other hand, do have a need at quarterback. They have former number one overall selections Alex Smith, and David Carr. Both are nearly categorized as busts, although Alex Smith put together a nice season last year, splitting time with now Lion Shaun Hill. Knowing that the Lions would love to trade out of the 2nd position and gather a few more picks in this deep draft class of 2010. Also, consider the fact that Jimmy Clausen will clearly be available at number 2, I realize the Buccaneers don't need a QB, nor do the Redskins. But the 49ers have traded with the Lions before, so there is a comfort level there. So here are the possible trade options I see between the two teams:
OPTION 1
49ers receive: 2nd Overall Selection in 2010 NFL Draft, DE Cliff Avril
Lions receive: 13th, and 49th Overall selections in 2010 NFL Draft, and 2011 first round pick 2011, and RB Michael Robinson
OPTION 2
49ers receive: 2nd Overall Selection in 2010 NFL Draft, rights to hire Matt Millen as GM
Lions receive: Newly signed receivers Charles Rogers, and Mike WIlliams, along with rights to the expiring contract of practice squad QB Joey Harrington.
haaa just kidding
OPTION 3
49ers receive: 2nd Overall Selection in 2010 NFL Draft, DE Cliff Avril
Lions Receive: 17th Overall Selection in 2010 NFL Draft, LB Manny Lawson, and 49th overall selection in 2010 NFL Draft.
The Bills are also in need of a quarterback, and as long as Jimmy Clausen's draft stock keeps rising, the possibility of a Lions trade are looking more and more likely.
OPTION 4
Bills Receive: 2nd Overall Selection in 2010 NFL Draft
Lions Receive: 9th Overall Selection in 2010 NFL Draft, 41st overall selection in 2010 NFL Draft, and RB Marshawn Lynch
The Browns are also in need of a quarterback, they traded away Brady Quinn, and ditched Derek Anderson, they currently have Seneca Wallace as there most viable option to start.
OPTION 5:
Browns receive: 2nd Overall Selection in 2010 NFL Draft, WR Bryant Johnson
Lions Receive: 7th Overall Selection in 2010 NFL Draft, 38th pick in 2010 NFL Draft, and 2011 2nd Round pick
Interesting Perspective
So, do the Lions draft Suh if he is available? That would mean the Rams took a QB. Most Lions fan would scream at the top of their lungs, YES! But, as a true Lions fan for many years I suggest we all take one big step back. If Suh is a bust, the Lions may very well be set back another couple years from contention, and I know that most Lions fan cannot wait any longer for the Lions to be a contender. I know I can't. There is no doubt that Suh is a great talent, but most players that make it to the NFL are a great talent, especially a first round pick in the NFL.
So let's say the Lions trade their pick down to, oh I don't know, the Seahawks, so now the Lions have the 14th pick, along with the Seahawks 6th pick in the second round and a fourth, maybe even a third. I find that there is more value having the 14th overall pick with 2 high second round picks plus some. So if a good offer is there, I really think the Lions need to consider taking it.
With the 14th pick I see the Lions scooping up a very good DT, maybe not as good as McCoy or Suh, but definitely first round talent. For example: Brian Price (DT from UCLA) or Dan Williams (DT from Tennessee). A solid pick here would definitely sure up a big need on the D-line, and it would give us room to build the defense from the inside out.
My second round suggestions are Kyle Wilson (Corner Back from Boise St) and Vladimir Ducasse (OG from UMass)
In the later rounds I see the Lions sticking to need picks, and maybe a few BAP picks. But the thing to keep in mind is that the Lions are not a bad team, they have a legit QB, an elite WR, and an up and coming TE. The offensive line will improve as the team as a whole gets better.
So in the third round i think the Lions need to take another offensive linemen, or a defensive end. So I would hope for Selvish Capers (OT from West Virginia) or Kyle Calloway (OT from Iowa). Calloway is one of my sleepers in the draft, he is 6'7'' and 320lbs +, he fits the mold for a successful NFL O-Lineman. Lions need that.
Now that we have the fourth round and I think it is one of the most important picks of the draft. There is a lot of value available here. Lions need a number 2 receiver, can Derrick Williams be our guy? Let's give him a little push by picking up another young receiver here. I suggest we go with Carlton Mitchell (WR from South Florida) he's a big guy that I happened to watch quite a bit this season, as I am a big South Florida fan. Otherwise, I could see the Lions going with a defensive end if they haven't already in earlier picks. If so I think CJ Wilson (DE from East Carolina) would be available, and he's a solid player.
Through the fifth, sixth and seventh we take the BAP, some of my late round suggestions are: Riley Cooper (WR from Florida) , Myron Rolle (S from Florida St.) , Larry Asante (S from Nebraska), Kam Chancellor (S from Virginia Tech), JD Walton (C from Baylor), James Starks (RB from Buffalo), Jacoby Ford (WR from Clemson), Max Hall (QB from BYU), and finally Jimmy Graham (TE from Miami)
Also, for Free Agency. The Lions need a big bruising back, Jerome Felton can stay at fullback. LenDale White should be available, I really think he could add a second dimension to the Lions young running game. He would make up for the stinky job K Smith does inside the 20. I could also see the Lions picking up DE Mark Anderson from the Chicago Bears. If the Packers don't resign Atari Bigby, I really think the Lions should give him the money, he would be a lovely compliment to Delmas, although the Lions would have to give up a second round pick in compensation.
That is my Lions off season plan. Maybe it's a little too bold, but I like it. Let me know what you all think!
