I'm gonna have to go to sleep after this half inning.

Dang right.

Who's this guy in King Felix's uniform?

The way I see it, the challenges are the same as they've been most of the year.
Commented on Phillies 8-4 over Nationals for sweep of three-game set in Citizens Bank Park on Aug 28 2014, 8:09a
Wasn't Wreckhouse the counter to my pessimism earlier in the season?
Commented on Phillies 8-4 over Nationals for sweep of three-game set in Citizens Bank Park on Aug 27 2014, 11:31p - 1 reply
The only reason I have some optimism is that the rough patches have tended to be short this season.

Take the next two series and the last three games will be quickly forgotten.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 10:59p
Thanks for reminding me about that. That puts things in some perspective.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 10:43p
Here's my narrative: every team in the NL has holes, and even the Dodgers have the potential to crater in September.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 10:42p
I don't want to know.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 10:25p
Hope so, but the Mets are really banged up.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 10:16p
We were leading the season series against the Phillies coming in.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 10:15p
It was lights out ten games in a row.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 10:12p - 1 reply
I figured this might not be a good series, but I didn't think it would be this bad.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 10:07p
Agreed, but in a game where Fister misses his spots and Span makes a costly error it may not make much of a difference.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 10:02p
On the verge of being swept by a last place team; the whole series has been pretty awful.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 9:56p
When Fister can't locate his pitches you know things aren't going right.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 9:46p
From everything falling right to almost nothing falling right.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 132 of 162 on Aug 27 2014, 9:43p - 1 reply
I think this is the first time Fister has had this kind of trouble two games in a row for us.

If they're playing in late October, they could play on my 50th.

Werth hasn't; maybe he should have sat.

So are the Braves.
Commented on Phillies 4-3 over Nationals for second straight in Citizens Bank Park on Aug 26 2014, 10:08p
How many of us, if asked 15 games ago if we'd be happy with 12 of 15, would have said "heck yeah?"
Commented on Phillies 4-3 over Nationals for second straight in Citizens Bank Park on Aug 26 2014, 10:00p
Shoulda traded Burnett and Hamels.
Commented on Phillies 4-3 over Nationals for second straight in Citizens Bank Park on Aug 26 2014, 9:54p
The Braves have had their problems with the Mets this season.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 131 of 162 on Aug 26 2014, 9:41p
They haven't had a break for a while, and I think they've gone twenty something days with one off.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 131 of 162 on Aug 26 2014, 9:39p
I thought he'd be hitting like he did his first two years by now.

I'm starting to wonder if he'll completely get it together this season.

So many close games fell our way recently it's inevitable a few don't.

A double would be ok.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 131 of 162 on Aug 26 2014, 8:53p
He hasn't hit Hamels well in his career, which might lead him away from his usual MO.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 131 of 162 on Aug 26 2014, 8:43p
Missing in the zone: bad. Missing outside the zone: still bad, but better.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 131 of 162 on Aug 26 2014, 8:39p
Galvis did hit 6 in 222 AB last year, so he's not exactly a banjo hitter.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 131 of 162 on Aug 26 2014, 8:21p
The Braves get to face a Mets lineup minus Wright and Murphy.
Commented on Nationals' Tuesday night lineup: Asdrubal Cabrera back, Bryce Harper, Adam LaRoche sit on Aug 26 2014, 5:15p
If the mere presence of Espinosa in the lineup causes 5 guys not to hit (and I don't believe it does), we have a problem.
Commented on Phillies 3-2 over Nationals in the series opener in CBP: A.J. Burnett strikes out 12 on Aug 25 2014, 10:39p
Maybe tomorrow's home plate ump will make egregious calls against Hamels, causing him to get thrown out.

I like Asdrubal, but I doubt it would have made a difference.
Commented on Phillies 3-2 over Nationals in the series opener in CBP: A.J. Burnett strikes out 12 on Aug 25 2014, 10:25p
With the Braves it may have happened more often than not this season.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 10:14p
We were bound to lose a close one eventually.
Commented on Phillies 3-2 over Nationals in the series opener in CBP: A.J. Burnett strikes out 12 on Aug 25 2014, 10:11p
I wonder how common offensive letdowns are after games with double digit runs.

A less extreme version of De la Rosa.

They turned in early so they'd be nice and rested for Hamels tomorrow.

Obviously overmatched.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 9:47p
If Hairston gets replaced when a righty comes in I'm ok with it.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 9:46p
True, but I still say there's more of a chance he hits a flare that drops in than Hairston dropping one in against a righty.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 9:44p - 1 reply
Yep, and I'd rather have LaRoche against a lefty than Hairston against a righty.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 9:39p - 1 reply
If he was up to it that would have been a good idea.

Not likely he'd give Werth much to hit with a lefty coming up.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 9:34p
Wouldn't be surprised to see him be a perennial all-star sooner than later.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 9:27p
Unless the righty is a pitcher, I'd rather he didn't.

I don't understand using Blevins against a right handed hitter in a close game.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 9:23p
I'm still nervous when he comes in during a close game.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 9:13p - 1 reply
I don't get swinging at first pitches when the pitchers count is getting high.

At least there aren't more strikeouts than posts.

Not the finest hour for the blue guys.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 9:03p
Normally not, but he's never hit Burnett well and Schierholtz has.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 9:02p - 1 reply
Maybe given Werth's bad numbers against Burnett it might have been a good idea to give Schierholtz (6 for 14 lifetime) the start.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 8:59p - 1 reply
I would have, but I'm as tired as I speculated the Nats hitters could be.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 8:53p
If Burnett's pitch count weren't so high he could be looking at 15-16 strikeouts tonight.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 8:41p
Some might boo Desmond or Zimmermann if they did that.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 8:32p
Way we're hitting tonight that may be insurmountable.

Just when I think Roark is only missing out of the zone, he gives up a couple of hits.

Looking flat so far.
Commented on Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies: GameThread 130 of 162 on Aug 25 2014, 7:41p
Maybe; if Gio looks shaky maybe put him back during the postseason, presuming we're in.
