Death Penalty
That's right. I am strongly urging the NFL should take a page from the NCAA manual and suspend the New Orleans Saints football operations for a period of one season. They need to give them the SMU treatment. Make them gone. Off the grid. Stadium dark. No draft picks on April 26 through 28. No camp this summer. No exhibition games. No regular-season games.
For one year, they basically cease to exist.
Here's Why
"Despite being a sixth seed a year ago, the Green Bay Packers run to the title wasn't a surprise for those that were paying attention. And those paying attention this year have their eyes on the New Orleans Saints."
Another take on why the Saints will win the Super Bowl.
The Saints will win their second Super Bowl in three years, beating the Ravens
"The Saints will beat the Ravens in the Super Bowl. May as well start off with a prediction bound to lead to angry responses, right? This one's not so much an indictment of the Packers, who might be on the verge of becoming a dynasty again, as it is an admission that the Saints are really, really good. Almost all of that confidence comes from Drew Brees' continued spectacular performance. The Saints took Green Bay to the wire in Week 1. On the other side of things, even with the AFC road likely going through New England, the Steelers and Ravens have the best mixes of offense and defense. Baltimore has had Pittsburgh's number this season and looks poised to take the AFC North crown. That means the Steelers might have to win in Batimore to get to the Super Bowl, which the Ravens won't allow."

Porter's Day Off
Of all the things that sports stars could be doing on their day off, Saints CB Tracy Porter hauls furniture.
This is the kind of story that makes me feel good about rooting for the Saints and its players. Winning is awesome, but to read about players doing things like this is amazing.
Stennis Space Center
Greetings All!! - So my first opportunity to go to New Orleans is in a few hours. Due to an emergency, I am required to go to Stennis Space Center. What does that mean? What is this fan post about? Well find out, after the jump!
QBR Predictor?
So everyone is going nuts trying to figure out why / how Tebow is winning. Some fella wrote an article about this explaining why / how this is happening. Basically it boiled down to QBR. His thought was that Tebow simply outplays the other QB and the QBR differential shows that whenever Tebow's QBR was higher than his opponents, the Broncos would win. So I got curious and did a quick chart on excel to see if there were any correleations between the Saints victories to Brees' QBR rating vs opponents. Find out more after the jump.
Monday Night Fantasy Help
Hi Folks. I haven't posted in awhile, but I am looking for some assistance. I am playing against "Ingramania!" this week. I have a slight lead, but here's my problem...
I have H. Nicks, V. Cruz and R. Meachem... do I sit one of the Giants or play both of them? What would you guys recommend?
I have a weird feeling that Meachem is going to have a big night tonight, but... Cruz and Nicks have been playing well as of late, and with our defense, I feel like they might put up some big fantasy points (but still hoping for a loss).
So what do you guys think? Start Meachem? Sit him? I'm at a loss still. I would appreciate your thoughts on this.
Thanks folks!
A View From the 40: Saints Training Camp, Oxnard, CA
How's it going folks! Nanvinnie here with a short post from Saints Camp on Friday. I have a lot of pictures to upload and several clips so I'll just get started with a few clips for now.
I'll try updating later tonight with all the photos and videos.
A few thoughts:
1. Brees is not looking as sharp as I would hope. Even in practice, he was under throwing to some of the recievers.
2. Sproles is tiny. But he's super fast. He looks like one of the fastest guys out on the field.
3. Ingram runs with some authority. He definitely shows great balance.
4. Arrington seemed to be getting a lot of first team reps yesterday... maybe this is his year.
5. Watching the Saints in person for the first time was AWESOME.
Watch some clips after the jump!!

Representing California
Hey folks, the Saints are finally in California. Being a Saints fan out on the West Coast is tough... limited coverage, no NFL in Los Angeles, dealing with Raiders and Chargers fans.
I have never been able to see the Saints in person, and though I don't know when I'll able to see them at the Dome for a real game, I have the next best thing with open practices in Oxnard this week.
So... Who's going? Which days?
I'll be going up on Friday to check out practice. Let me know if you'll be there. I'll try my best to post some pics and comments during or after practice.
Geaux Saints!

Sleeper? Maybe... Not Really
"In checking the latest Super Bowl odds online recently, I saw what had to be a mistake.
The Saints are 16/1 to win this year’s NFL title? Where’s my credit card..."

2012 Super Bowl Odds
"...it should really come as no surprise that the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots are the preseason favorites for Super Bowl XLVI..."
Franchise Tag
"Drew is not a guy that would put himself above any type of team negotiations," Sharper said. "He's going to do what's best for the whole group and never worry about himself."
Billionaires Vs. Millionaires
"As of this writing, team owners and the players’ union are behind closed doors with a federal mediator. And nobody’s talking to the press....you’ll hear from a variety of NFL insiders, including:...couple of NFL players: Drew Brees, the MVP of last year’s Super Bowl (and a member of the union’s executive committee)...."
If you don't already listen... you should check it out- the Freakonomics podcasts are free from itunes.
Saints / Packers are best bet for NFC
Spread: New Orleans -10.5
Wazny says: Saints both ways. The Giants and Buccaneers, both out of the post-season despite their 10-6 records, hung 41 and 38 points on the Seahawks earlier this year. Forget about the long travel or the fact the Saints have never won a road playoff game -- Brees should have the spread covered off by halftime.
Don't Sleep on the Saints
"It’s funny when you think about it. After all those years of being the "Aints" and underachieving, the Saints' 9-3 record is being picked apart the year after winning the Super Bowl. At any other point in franchise history, 9-3 would be celebrated. Now you have the skeptics and critics wondering if there’s enough offense, questioning the defense, thinking New Orleans cannot be considered elite and go deep in the playoffs."
Below the Radar
Nice article about the Saints flying below the radar.
"So what do you do when you are made to feel you saved the world, when the celebration goes on and on and on and you realize this is probably the most meaningful Super Bowl victory a city has ever had? How do you make it better?"

Prepare for a strong Brees
From St. Louis Today - What must the Rams do to slow down Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints this weekend?
Some of their writers give their thoughts.
Why Are the Eagles Afraid of the Saints?
Came across this article, but it doesn't really explicate why the Eagles wouldn't want to play us but would be will to play off with some of the other teams. Anyone have some insight to this?
Cover Up
Post from Dallas Morning Star regarding the potential problems with Dallas covering the Saints Receiving Corps. Saints deeper at the WO position that most teams are at the DB position.
Add in a slew of pass catching backs and tight ends, this should turn out to be a favorable match up for the Saints.
"The New Orleans Saints ranked fourth in the NFL in passing on the way to their first Lombardi Trophy last season. They rank fourth again this year.
Their success is a product of sheer numbers – the Saints go deeper in quality receivers than defenses go in quality cover men. Quarterback Drew Brees has the patience and precision to find the open man – and there always seems to be an open man."
Immediate Impact
"Let’s discuss this for a moment, because I do see Bush’s return to the lineup as a major upgrade to Sean Payton, Drew Bress and this New Orleans' offense. Forget about numbers or the box score, because when you have a dynamic player like Bush on the field, the game plan—and the play calling—will change. That is the advantage we are talking about for the Saints moving forward."
I hope he does make a huge impact this week!
Finally - Brees up at the top
1 Drew Brees, Saints: Leapfrogged over Peyton Manning by outdueling him in the Super Bowl.
2 Peyton Manning, Colts: 366 career TD passes and still going strong.
destiny? pff...
world champions... superbowl victors... the new orleans saints!!! a team of destiny? hmmm... let's think about that one for a second. i'm not gonna lie, i was into the whole "team of destiny" thing and i totally bought into it, i totally believed it and everything but are we selling the saints short? when you say a team won because of destiny, doesn't it kind of take away from what they actually did? perhaps it wasn't destiny or fate. perhaps, the saints just kicked a** and played a brilliant game. perhaps, the saints worked hard all season long, made the right moves, and won games. perhaps the saints studied harder, worked harder, planned harder, practiced harder, coached harder, rested harder than every other team in the league. maybe... the saints played better football. maybe they are just THAT good. team of destiny? fine. call it what you will, but the saints are just good. they are great. they are a disciplined, well trained, hungry and motivated team. i guess you can call that destiny. congratulations to the saints. booya!

The Connection
There was an article posted in the "fanshots" section about Fujita speaking up about gay marriage. This fan shot has nothing to do with that. This is about the last paragraph that I read, specifically the text message he received from his wife:
"The people of New Orleans love the Saints not because they provide a distraction from their fall, but because they are a reflection of their rise"
I am not for New Orleans, or even Louisiana. I'm from Los Angeles, Ca. I've never even set foot in New Orleans. The closest I've gotten is probably Houston or Atlanta. But reading that text, I was deeply moved. My affinity towards the city of New Orleans is definitely rooted in the Saints. Without the Saints, I really have no connection to speak of to that City. I'm so moved because the Saints are a tremendously positive "thing" for New Orleans. Something I feel most cities lack and can't come close to experiencing.
I don't really have a point to this fan post, except that I'm rooting long and hard for the Saints...for the City of New Orleans.
Much love from Los Angeles and South Korea!!!!
Geaux Saints!!!
New Orleans Saints may pull off a Super Bowl upset according to 'Madden' game
The New Orleans Saints may have what it takes to pull off a narrow victory over the Indianapolis Colts at Super Bowl XLIV, according to a simulation of the big game on "Madden NFL 10" for the Xbox 360.
Scoreboard watching can be dizzying
UPSET SPECIAL: CARDINALS, 38-35
Let's hope not!
Defensive Slump
Stats show a pretty dramatic difference between the first 11 games and the final 5 games of the season. I'm hoping our Saints play like the first 11.
The theory has been thrown out there quite a bit that the Saints peaked too early, hitting their high point in a victory against New England. They followed that win with two close victories before losing each of their last three games.
Playoff Power Rankings
Here's a sobering statistic for Saints fans to chew on as the playoffs open: New Orleans led the NFL in scoring this season with a franchise-record 510 points, but the last team to lead the league in that department and win the Super Bowl was the 1999 Rams. Throughout the decade of the 2000s, no Super Bowl winner even led their conference in points scored, let alone the league. The only scoring leaders to even get to the Super Bowl this decade were the 2001 Rams (503 points) and the 2007 Patriots (589).
sorry who dat nation
the decline of the saints, it seems, is due to my absence from the united states.
i left for korea on dec 16th and since then, the saints have been on a downward spiral.
i will be back from korea on jan 3, hopefully in time to generate the positive mojo the saints have been coasting on this season, hitherto.
i arrive a little after the 1pm so i don't know if my mojo can kick in while i'm in US airspace, but here's to hoping for the best while expecting the worst.
let's not get too down about this yet guys. who dat!
New Orleans' Bush a matchup nightmare for Dallas Cowboys
Bush may be the most dangerous element of the New Orleans offense because the Saints can dictate all of his matchups. So he causes the most headaches. He's an all-the-time concern on game day.
