I stopped watching a CU game early for the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE today. I watched 70-3 till the final gun. Not today. What a disgraceful, disgusting performance. NU lost, KU and MU are probably going to lose. We could of stepped right into the drivers seat in the Big 12 North race yet we come out and play worse than I have ever seen any team play in my life. I don't want to bash on KSU, they played without a huge number of mistakes and definitely deserved to win, but they STINK! Are you telling me they have more talent than we do? Our defense did enough for us to get the victory but the special teams, penalties, and coaching SUCKED! I could go on for about a 1000 words about the coaching but it's all been said here before. It's all par for the course for this staff. We can't beat ANYBODY on the road! ANYBODY! What the HELL was with putting Cody in the game? What is that psychopath Hawkins thinking? Cody comes in and throws 23 passes in about 5 minutes and you guys tell me, how many accurate passes did he actually throw? 3? How many times did he throw into double coverage? 15? What a scumbag liar Dan is. I hope he sleeps well with his decisions tonight.

Ya know, we'll probably come out and get one more "big win" this year behind a fired-up crowd against NU or MU and it'll save his job, but that's BULLSHIT! He has proven what a fraud he is already, I don't care if we win every game the rest of the year, we need to clean house. I already let Bohn know how I feel about this game (2nd time this year, this time much angrier) and I hope you all do the same (Mike.Bohn@Colorado.EDU). Just like this was the worst game I have ever watched in my life, this is probably the most rambling and worst post I have ever written here, I'm just so mad, I needed to say something. I hope you all are too. We can't just be apathetic at this point.

Nice Win Finally! KSU: Game of the Year All of a Sudden?

Missed the game chat but I had to go to Folsom to support my man Tyler and the guys. Great comments by all you guys, I enjoyed reading them.

I must of aged about 10 years during the game, that second half was so hard to watch, Reesing is a beast, it almost seemed like a given that he was going to rip all of our hearts out and win the game. Defense held when they had to (kind of) but I wasn't exactly pleased with the secondary tonight. I don't remember Kansas running the ball once in the entire 2nd half yet they were completing long pass after long pass. Lot's of great, athletic catches by Meyer and Briscoe but come on, that was ridiculous. That 3rd and 30 play was like a shotgun blast to the face, but I knew it was gonna happen, I leaned over to my buddy in the stands and yelled into his ear right before that play: "there's about a 75% chance they convert this." Also, can we cut down on the damn penalties?? How many times did we have 1st and 15 or 2nd and 20 because of holding or offsides or something. This seriously has to be cleaned up, first last week and now this. Again (just like WVU and Texas) we we’re spotted a big lead but couldn’t hold on, at least we came back and won tonight, but we need to put an end to this trend. DiLallo punted horribly (except for the last kick which was OK), they won the field position battle all night almost entirely because of his bad kicks.

But there are some positives, right?? Yes, Tyler played his ASS OFF!! I know he made a couple mistakes (mistakes young, inexperienced QBs make) but anyone who doesn't think he's locked up the job or doesn't see how much more he brings to the table than Cody (which I've been saying for more than a year now) is either insane, blind, or named Mitsi Hawkins. He has a lot of similar qualities that Reesing has (and as lame as it is to say, King Tebow). Now if we can just get our WRs making plays or even catching simple passes (that's mostly on the RBs last night) we'll be OK. Props to Cody for being so positive on the sidelines all night (at least from what I could tell). I was disappointed to not see Simmons get involved, we really need that playmaker at WR, maybe it isn't him, but at least Simas is starting to live up to all the billing. The D-line also made lots of plays, good for them.

Anyway, great win, the Big 12 North is WIDE OPEN. Mizzou is shaky, Corn was exposed for the frauds they are, every one of our remaining home games is winnable, we just need to finally get it done on the road. Who was that awesome team wearing purple today that put 60-some points on A&M? Yeah, the game next week just turned into one of the biggest of the year. ISU is playing good ball too, so we need to find a way to get at least one road win, let‘s do it next week.

Response from Mike Bohn

During the Toledo game thread someone gave out the e-mail addresses for Mike Bohn and the Chancellor so I fired off a couple e-mails giving them a piece of my mind. Thought you all might want to see Bohn's response. It's obviously a form e-mail with nothing personal in it so I don't see anything wrong with posting it (I'm sure a few of you received the same thing). It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect. Bohn has got to go before anything is ever done about Hawkins.

On behalf of the CU administration I want to personally respond to your communication regarding the disappointing start of the Golden Buffaloes this year. Let me begin by saying that I, too, am very disappointed in the outcome of both the CSU and Toledo games, and in the performance of our team. I know I share that disappointment with Coach Hawkins, our coaches and players and CU fans, alumni and supporters everywhere.

But with that disappointment, I want you to know that I am committed, along with our Athletic Department, university leadership, and our players and coaches, to excellence on and off the field and to a winning program in football. In that long-term effort, there will always be victories and milestones, as well as disappointments and setbacks. But at CU, we have a history of not letting bad starts, and sometimes even bad seasons, disrupt the trajectory toward our long-term goals.

In 1984, in the middle of a 1-10 season, then-CU Athletic Director Bill Marolt gave Bill McCartney, who was in his third year as Buffs head coach and was en route to a 7-25-1 start, a contract extension. At the time, some CU fans, alumni and the media called for both Marolt's and McCartney's firing and/or resignation. Coach Mac, if you recall, switched to the wishbone on offense and we went 7-5 in 1985, going to a bowl for the first time in nine years, and had appeared to turn the corner. Then in 1986, the Buffs opened 0-4, with renewed calls for Mac's resignation. Nonetheless, the team finished the season 6-1, notched a home win over Nebraska and earned a berth in the Bluebonnet Bowl. Of course, three seasons later, we played for the national championship, and a season after that, we won it. Even in that aforementioned national championship season, a lot of people forget that CU opened the year at 1-1-1. More recently, in 2001, we opened the season with a bitter loss to Fresno State at home before going on to win the Big 12 title and finishing the regular season ranked No. 2.

I am not offering excuses here, nor am I promising an amazing rebound this season. I recognize that hopes have been high for steady improvement with our team and that we're not seeing the improvement we'd all like. But a look at the state of college football today shows that, each year, upsets and slow starts are not unusual, even among the nation's elite programs. Further, I believe there is great progress to report with all our programs, and I am encouraged by the commitment of our players and by the values and leadership of Coach Hawkins. In fact, I believe now is the time to rally behind our coach and our players, give them our support, and set our sights on having the best season we can.

In this spirit, despite our disappointment and our high hopes for this year, I am asking you to stick with us as we work to meet the challenges this season will hand us.

Go Buffs!

I know this has nothing to do with CU football but I have no desire to join the Syracuse site :-) Besides, maybe this will take my mind off Simmons and Kasa for a minute... What do you all think? I think it's pretty cool, of course I should say I love Duke hoops so I was rooting for him but I never expected him to be named a starter at a major college program (Syrcause I know, but still) after one week of practice. I'll definitely be checking out whatever Syracuse games are on TV now so see how he does. He is a really smart guy and a good leader, if his #1 QB prospect, 5-star skills are still intact I bet he does pretty good.

Don't know if this is really worth a Fanshot, but I just found out about this and I think it's pretty cool. I have Comcast, like most of us in Colorado, and it has always ticked me off that I didn't get espn360 access. I just read that starting 8/1 all Comcast users will finally have espn360 access which now also includes all GamePlan and Full Court games as well. That will be positively awesome for college football and basketball season. It's about damn time Comcast!

Don't know if any of you caught PTI today but they had Barkley on for the 5 good minutes segment and while talking about the K-Mart fine Chuck said that he thought the Nuggets would beat the Lakers/Rockets winner AND the Cavs and that they were his pick to go all the way. It's crazy how all the national guys are jumping on the Nuggets bandwagon right now. A few weeks ago most of them (including Charles if I remember correctly) thought that the Blazers were the only team in the West that could possibly beat the Lakers and that the Nuggets were a hot mess that probably wouldn't even get past the first round.

Not sure that I'm that confident yet, but I just thought it was funny. Anyway, go Nuggets tonight, go!

I know this unfortunately has nothing to do with CU sports, but since this is the only sports blog I visit and I know a lot of you are following the tournament closely and like to place some bets I thoght maybe we could have an open thread discussing the tournament.

Maybe I'm posting this because I'm feeling so hot! I bet on all 8 games today and I'm 6 for 6 so far, wish I would of parlayed! Anyway, while I felt pretty good about today's games I don't see any games tomorrow I really love. Anyone got any hot tips?

I think I like Mizzou -4 and Syracuse -2 tomorrow. Maybe MSU -4 against USC as well. Someone is bound to bring USC back to earth eventually, 4 points isn't that many...

Miami OH game is no more?

Seems like it's been forever that we've been discussing the Miami OH game (why are we playing them on the road? what are the TV implacations) but now it looks like we won't be playing them at all.

Check out Ringo's blog here: http://www.buffzone.com/blogs/buffzone-sports/2009/feb/28/miami/

So I guess there is no chance to have another home game, has to be a road game with a MAC oppenent... I actually kind of like it when we play teams we haven't played in a long time (or ever), so as long as it's on ESPN so I can watch it I'm cool with us playing at Toledo or Bowling Green. Neither of those games would be gimmies, we better show up to play.

Current and Future State of Men's B-Ball

I know there aren't a huge number of big CU hoop fans here (and I can certainly understand that, trust me), but I was just reading the recap of last night's loss over on the DC site and I thought I would share my thoughts and ask you all for yours.

Sure, we all knew this would be a really tough year for a really young team, but I think most people (myself included) thought there would be significant improvement next year as the team matured. I'm not seeing that "light at the end of the tunnel" right now. Bzdelik said after the game that "we're just a soft team." OK, no argument there, but we are a "soft team" because Bzdelik is recruiting "soft players." We've got all these white euro-style big men who can't rebound, defend, or score down low and they aren't gonna suddenly transform into different types of players next year just because they're a year older. Next year's incoming class appears to me to be more of the same.

I've always liked Bzdelik and you certainly can't argue with his basketball credentials, but our game plan just doesn't make any sense to me. First of all on offense, what the heck are we doing? I've seen lots of teams run Princeton-style offenses, but never as bad as we do. I remember watching Princeton play Duke a few years ago. Obviously Duke was way more talented and won fairly easily, but Princeton at least looked like they "had a plan" and scored multiple times on back-door cuts. When was the last time we actually HAD a successful back-door lay-up? I can't even remember. We just bring the ball down, pass it around forever and then either Higgins bails us out by creating his own shot or something really ugly happens (much more often the later). On to the D: I HATE the zone defense we run. First of all it doesn't work (teams get way too many open shots against us) but even more importantly it kills our defensive rebounding, which is probably the #1 weakness of this team. I can't even count how many times this year I've seen an opponent put up a shot and we'll have 2 guys running at the shooter, 2 guys up at the top of the key (or somewhere else way out of rebounding position) and Tomlinson (or some other rebounding-challenged player) down low to crash the boards.

I was encouraged by some of our close losses to good teams but I'm starting to wonder if I really should be. I don't think any of the teams in the Big 12 really take us seriously and give us an "A" effort. I also think our games have been relatively close because we play such a "grind-it-out" style of ball and we don't give the opponent enough possessions to really blow us out. When a team gets up like 18-9 or something against us it's pretty much game over. They can just coast to victory because there is no way we can make a big comeback with our offense. I think this has been a monumentally horrible season when you factor in our strength of schedule. What are our best wins of the year? They've got to be against a banged-up CSU team and our lone Big 12 win against ISU (who then annihilated us the next game, which I think kind of proves my point about other Big 12 teams sleep-walking against us). This is the worst CU b-ball team that I can remember in my time as a fan. I hate to say it, but Patton never had a team that looked this bad and as completely rudderless out on the court.

For those of you who are interested, tell me why I should have hope for next year being any better. Cory Higgins is a great player, but he is the only guy on our roster who would start for another Big 12 team. Who's gonna help him out with the scoring? JJW is certainly not a "talented" basketball player but he is our only tough inside presence and he'll be gone. Would anyone here bet the over on say, 3 conference wins next year?

Alright... don't know why I wrote this and sorry it's so negative, it's just that I love college basketball and I would like nothing more than to see CU field a competitive team and have good fan support year in and year out. I'm just kind of concerned right now.
