Lebron's Criteria for Moving......
Ego foremost, power next and finally wealth. Of course, the last two are big feeders of his ego. His celebrity status will not be influenced by the size of the city. Wherever he goes and stays, he will still be a celebrity. He has already proven this by choosing Cleveland as his first station( not demeaning the place). His ego imbibed what the city could give until it could give no more. Fortunately for Lebron, the other NBA cities hunger for his presence and his ego has been constantly fed.
This made his ego grow bigger as his appetite surfeited with the recognition and craves for more and more.....you see ego can never be satisfied. So what's next?.. The roving eyes of ego are focused in a place with more "food".
Under this criterion, the cities that vie for Lebron could be ranked as follows.......New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, New Jersey and Cleveland.
Power....As I said earlier, power is a great feeder of ego. Lebron is a control freak, believe it or not. Lebron controled Cleveland!!! Heck, he controls the NBA. He's got the NBA "in his hands"! But could he control New York where baseball is king....where the Yankees are loved more than the Knicks? Los Angeles though is a basketball nation. The latest cult in the city (and I hate to say this) is the Lakers with it's "high priest" by the name of " Kobe". But the high priest is aging and pretty soon will have to give up his robe to a worthy successor. Is there a possibility of taking "the robe" by force sooner? Miami? Not possible while the scepter belongs to Wade. No king would want to share and divide his kingdom while he is still strong. Chicago is there to take without much fight, while the "Rose(s) are not in bloom yet. And Chicago is practically "undressing" ( pardon my language) in front of Lebron! New Jersey is very easy victory and invaded and ruled hands down. Cleveland is like a raped woman waiting for her lover to come back. Chicago easily wins this one! But if Lebron's ego wants the challenge, then I said New York and Los Angeles are the biggest contenders.
Money always talks. They say that "money begets money". And money is where New York is. Lots of it! Lebron has learned to be an enterpreneur and a very succesful one. He understands that one does not get filthy rich by depending on ones salaries. He realizes that he cannot work for money but money has to work for him. Unfortunately, "Mamon" does not want to be controled. "Mamon" wants to control. Just look around and see.
The "money city" of the USA is New York. Is there money in Los Angeles? of course there is. But not as much as New York could offer. So bye bye Miami, New Jersey and Cleveland.
At he end, as wise said by King Solomon, evrerything is "Vanity". And Self is lured to be clothed by "Vanity"
Think wisely Lebron..... for .there is also a saying that goes like this........."What does it profit a man to gain the whole whole but loses his life" ?
The Chief has arrived!
A good omen for the Clips! It looks like the 3 picks have been preordained to signal the arrival of a new era for the Clips. What a way to start and there is more to anticipate. Allthough the $17M is not comparable to what NY & Chicago have ($44 & $35), if properly spent could give us a very good SF (to give time to AFA to develop) and decent veteran players who could help mold the Clips to develop a good running offense. This line up would definitely attract not only a Class A coach but also Class A players. Our core players are very young and very talented. I will not be surprise to see some of these Max players tempted to take a second look at the new Clippers and start reconsidering.
Rise Up (And Win)!
A wothy theme for this year that hopefully could bring more wins. "Play Loud" did not mean anything. Instead the Clips "Play(ed) Lousy" and won a little bit more games. So , to be more meaningful, instead of just "Rise Up, I would suggest to add "and Win"!
Well, how do we rise up?
Let's start with the coaching situation - first of all the Clipper's organization is ambigous as to their intention. Whiles other teams are relentlessly proactive in looking for their new coaches, Clips are overly passive.. not a good way to start the Rise Up campaign. There's so much talk about 2nd rated coaches...are we looking at a four year plan to Rise Up? We have had enough of waiting!
I just read a report about the average games per season our core team have played. Believe it or not only EJ is sturdy with over 75 games per. Baron/Kaman/Jordan are all in the 60's and pretty much say that they are all fragile! (if I add Griffin, the average will be lower for the whole core team). The report also said that contending teams like the Boston and Lakers are averaging 70+ games for their core team. If we want to be in the playoff and be considered serious contenders we need to take a more serious and closer look on our program to keep our players healthy. Perhaps Baron & Kaman could not be improved at all, then we should get good subs for those two positions-players who could fill up the gap for at least 20 games per .
We have so much invested in this organization and I think we should also "Rise Up" with them. Darell's LBJ parade is a good example.
Your thoughts please.
What's in your mind Dunleavy?
Second guessing is a enjoyable game. In chess, it could be detrimental should the guessing fails unless you have in your arsenal of moves several variations (options) to play.
A lot of us are eager to peep into the future and see what variations MDsr has in his mind. 22 more games and the Clipper season is over (although many considers it's over now) and the unveiling of what is obscure will commence. . Only one thing is certain though which could form the common denominator for all of MDsr options: at the end of the season, only four players are officially signed-BD,CK,EJ & BG.
So let's play GM and second guess MDsr moves!
Keeping it simple should have been a key. Not so with MDsr's who in the past has shown several moves that could be followed by !!!!!!!!!???????. Moves that are unorthodozed that sometimes for common fans like us seem to border the unthinkable- like the acquisition of and dispatching of both Zbo & Camby. And a single move that could be characterized by simply !!!!!!!!!!! and later on ???????? like the signing of BD and lately, most of you would agree, a !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for his stepping down as the coach and perhaps for some of us naming Kim H as his replacement as a !!!?????????.
Now for a GM, specially when you are dealing with personnel movement, one cannot be predictable. This is a plus for MDsr as his pattern of decision making and choosing options are rarely readable. Had he not been confiding his plans to DTS, DTS must have been scratching his head every time MDsr make a move.
This makes the game more enjoyable as we try to fathom the mind of a Master Plotter like Dunleavy. But most of us fail and all we could do is make comments after the fact.!
Hey, that's why we are rated # 6 and our Steve Perrin should be highly commended for this plus the fact the the citizens are responding gamely even though our team and the organization are failing us.
So let's go on. Do'nt stop for there are more surprises ahead of us!
The show must go on!!
Shaping the future
What would it take to come out with a good product and at the same time market it making money (lots of it!)?
It looks like DTS is getting tired of having to present to the LA basketball market a product that is "so so"
For LA, it's not only show time, but show me the throphy as well, being spoiled by the other team in town.
Everybody knows that mediocrity is not accepted in LA and excellence and perfection are key words.
Although many considers him a "bad owner", you cannot argue the fact that he has been spending money lately trying to create the impression that he his "concerned". Having owned and invested money on the Clippers for more than 20 years with payouts which must have been measly, his patience must be running out for he still consider this a business (big business) and not a hobby.
More is being demanded by the Clipper Nation which has been in the uprsising lately. Making the citizens happy is foremost and the revolution that is the midst must be stopped.
This is the very reason why MDsr should make his genius work for him to retain his job. He cannot mess it this time! He needs to produce or be shipped out.
This is precisely the reason why I believe that Lebron or JJ will be part of the "shaping the future" move this summer. The money is there and the motivation.
MDsr will have to make it happen!
We can now see a glimpse of MDsr's genius
in being a GM. Even though we've seen only 2 games , Drew Gooden seems to be a better fit than AT and the bench is deeper with Blake, Outlaw, DJ and Smith rather than AT, Telfair, Collins and Novak. Kim H. has more options now and his resources richer. It's apparent that the players are responding to his leadership and even Kaman is now fighting for those rebounds. I am hoping that Blake's playtime in the court which eats into BD's time, would keep BD awake and make him want to play not only more but better. I see more surprising transformation after five more games with EJ and RB getting more relaxed in shooting those 3's (Kim H. urged them not to be timid in shooting even if they were missing), Kaman getting more rebounds, BD having more double double but not really scoring much dishing more the ball to his shooters. Once the chemistry is established, I think there will be more running and fastbreaks. The likes of Gooden, EJ, Butler, Blake, Outlaw are all "horses" who could run should BD run the way he used to. Overall, I see the 30 wins coming ahead of the 40 losses.
Baron again doing his famous "sore back" problem and something else
Once again the "artist" goes into his moody "what am I doing here playing?" trance like looks. Try to catch his expression after turning over the ball or missing an uncalled for 3-point shot and you will know what I mean.
In addition, there is his famous "no one knows" sore back that he constantly claim after a bad game. I'm guessing that the load he is carrying is too much and he is ever imagining that his back hurts-more of a psycological thing perhaps rather than physical.
Unfortunately, he is considered the leader of this team and when he is mentally out of the game, the rest of the sheep go astray.
I hope the presence of Blake (Steve) and the other two new players would stir him up and so he can, once in a while , be himself again. At least try and show everybody that he's got a heart (but I really think he lacks one and i am believing it now).
It is also ironical that AT can play at that level for his new team and not for the Clippers. On the other hand, Camby, did not show anything in his first game with the Blazers.
Overall, I have grown accustomed already to this "Clipper Patented Pattern" AKA Basquitball per S.Perin, that I can no longer be surprised by anything or new things that the team come up with. One of our co-citizen said it right, LBJ will not come here - to protect his knees and to be not infected by the deadly Clipper Virus.
Sadly, I am still a fan though (Stupid Me!!!!)
Considering what the Clippers paid for Camby
and what they got for Camby and if you were recording these transactions in an accounting ledger, the result would be a positive meaning the revenue is more than the cost. Since NBA is a business, then the whole transaction (from the acquisition of the asset (CAMBY) up to it's disposal) is considered sucessful for it is profitable. The investment made a year ago together with holding the "asset" for over a year yielded a high margin. There will be arguments as to the long term effect (which IS undeterminable) of the deal, but for now it made money. Who knows, perhaps this was what they had in mind (DTS and MDsr being shrewd businessmen) and earning quick money in just a year and a half is not bad business. And now look at what they have, at no extra cost, a not-so-bad PG in Blake (remember , before Miller, Blake was a steady PG starter playing side by side with Roy) and a 6'9" SF/scorer in Outlaw (# 3 in T'blazer's roster), plus the availability of more playing time for DJ's development which is always positive considering the the season is loss anyways. I don't know what other benefits and bad effects there are in this transaction (I've read so many of them), but at the end of the day, NBA being a business, and if you are a businessman like DTS, you will have to ask yourself, did I make money or not. If you did, then you did ok.
The Price of Freedom
Very often than not we think that freedom will right away translate our hopes, wishes and dreams into reality. On the contrary, freedom demands patience and if not practiced properly would bring about frustration that stiffles the change demanded by having freedom.
The Clipper nation should understand that they have to allow a certain amount of time for their team to adjust. More than ever, the pressure is heavier which lies not only on BD's and coach Kim's shoulders but for the rest of the team as well.
There are "habits" to be broken and replaced , attitudes to be changed and perhaps players to be traded. These all exact stiff wages to pay to reap and enjoy the harvest.
Therefore, let the work begins for those who demanded change, players and fans alike.
"Had we played with the freedom and the mentality".....
With 36 more games to play
The Clippers most likely would end up with a 30/52 record and 19th overall among 30 NBA teams vs last year of 19/63 record and tied for 28 & 29 overall. Considering that Blake was lost for the whole season, could this be looked at as an accomplishment? Would MDsr be able to face and dare say to Sterling "mission accomplished"?Would Sterling be able to say to MDsr "Well done my faithful servant"? Would the Clipper Nation accept this an improved product?
Reality is that the season has been already lost as far as playoff is concerned. Better start looking at possibilities for the next season starting February.
First is the trading deadline. What opportunities are there and what are the Clipper's options? Trade Camby and get the best value available or take the risk of losing him next year should he not accept the Clipper"s offer? How about Thornton? Does he fit as the Clip's requirement for a SF or do you trade him too? What value can you get for him? Is there hope for DJ? Or do you package him with Thornton and/or with Camby?
Secondly is the draft and thirdly is the free agency.
For this season, I have cried a lot of tears for my beloved Clippers. I have called them "studid, dumb . AH, etc. I will no longer do that, for I have resolved that no matter what, I will stay a loyal Clipper fan (which I have been for the past 20 years-stupid me!) and enjoy every game -win or loss.
By June I will be fired up again looking at possibilities in the draft and free agency. By October Blake will back and hope is in the horizon for the Clipper Nation!
Let it be....there will be an answer...Let it be..???
I don't want to sound philosophical specially when it comes to basketball.."It's only a game".
But for the Clipper Nation having to suffer all these disasters every year..well.. there must be an answer.
Of course, everybody who is antagonistic to the Clipper's cause are saying "It's the Clippers" or "It's the Clipper Curse" . I can still remember a blog address to BG after the Clippers landed the 1st pick that said (and I'm paraphrasing) "watch out for your knees Blake! Remember the Curse!"
Well, it happened.
And everybody said "It's the Clippers". It's the Curse!
So what is it really?
Believe it or not, it looks like the Clippers fate as we have been experiencing for the past 20 years has been predetermined a long time ago by the "gods" who have cursed the Clipper Nation.
Something has to be done however irrational it might be to change the course of the Clipper Nation Destiny!
Like perhaps: 1) move to Anaheim and change the name to Los Angeles "Cherubs"; 2) Redesign and change the color of the uniforms;3) Change the whole coaching and training staff; 4) Let go the rest of the team other than the 1st five of -BD/CK/MC/EJ/BG and a few subs like Butler/Jordan/Thorton; 5) Draft or get only left handed players;
Clipper Nation, let's think of something to make this nation great!!!
Who Made the Adjustment?
It was envigorating to see Dunleavy and Baron Davis laughing it out at the sideline after Baron's unsuccessful lob to EJ (LAC vs MIA). First time I've seen them on TV enjoying the game together as coach and player.
Who made the adjustment?
It is amazing what winning can do. It generates confidence and trust between players and coaches. Losing is ugly as it creates the opposite and makes the fans cry for blood.
Whatever is happening between Baron & MDsr is now producing slowly but surely positive results. It will be foolish to expect that this new relationship will win every game. But with the looks of it, this "born again" bonding is pregnant with expectation that would result to more "quality games" being played. Best for the fans!
Good relationship never fails to produce good results. It will be tested. If it is true, then it becomes stronger.
God bless and more power to the Clipper Nation!!
ONE WIN DOES NOT MAKE A SEASON BUT.....................
this win was much much more satisfactory than the Celtic win.
It is more than a "W" simply because the other team was the Lakers; Of course, everytime other teams play the champs there is always that motivation for the other team to literally "run over" the Lakers if possible and hopefully win convincingly by a large margin. There is a more sadistic way of inflicting pain to the dreaded Purple and Yellow team and that is by tearing their defense apart; showing them their weaknesses and running plays that would expose these weaknesses (this was effectively exhibited by Baron/Camby/Kaman plays in the middle) . Another way is by frustrating their MVP and forcing him to miss 2/3's of his shot, Still another way is by running the ball and taking advantage of the weak transition defense of the Lakers and converting 26 fastbreak points (the Clips are not noted for this kind of play) which surprised everybody else even the Clipsnation! Lastly, to break the Laker's backbone int he 4rth quarter, a team should release the "Rhino" to finally stump on the Lakers.
Dunleavy and his staff must have designed all of these well in advance to greet their fans a very "Properous New Year" that might lead the nation of the Clips to the "promise land".
Congratulations Dunleavy for a wonderful win!!!!!
ACCENTUATING THE NEGATIVES
Again it is hard to accept that the Clips struggled to make this an easy win. If you have not watched the game and are only looking at the statistics/percentages, you would think that the Clips must have had a "hilarious time" winning against this "crippled" team.-58% shooting overall; 62 % shooting threes (8 of 13) ; 79% shooting foul throws; and 38 vs 28 rebounds.Surely you would say, this should be a blow out!!
Great! But you if you examine the other statistics you would be scratching your head..... Tie game at the of the 1st half?; 20 errors- 8 committed by your point guart, 4 by your shooting guard & 3 by your center all of starters!! You search further down the line and you see your team only up by 3 at the 3rd quarter; Roy, their star, only made 6 points-6 points the whole game!!
What happened? Why? why? why?
Uninspired basketball for 3 quarters that's why.
Clips started playing ONLY after watchting their 2nd team try to redeem whatever pride is left of the team.
Why the starters had a hard time overcoming the depleted team, i really cannot fathom.
Was it the presence of the other "Coach"?
TO RUN OR NOT TO RUN (that is the question).....
It is a common knowlege that MDsr is not a fan of D'Antioni's runnning game. He thinks that this style of playing cannot win championship. However, the Lakesr of the 80's with Magic running the show had proven that this can be done. It takes the right players though to commit this kind of exciting way of playing. Although during the last decademost of the NBA championship games were won through the half-court games (Celtics/Spurs/Rockets/Lakers), NBA fans i believe are craving and are looking for more excitement and are moved
by running games and thuderous dunks.
The running game was and still is a dillema that the MDsr is facing ever since the Clips got the Baron. With Brand leaving though, there was a good chance that a change will be implemented. It did not really happpened although there was definitely an attempt which came more from the players (instigated by the Baron who at once butted head with MDsr). Up to now, I think MDsr is still struggling on how the running game could fit into his system.
It is very clear that the team wants to run. They have the resources to do this. With Blake's arrival (finally) to the NBA, MDsr needs to flex his system to incorporate the running game more. Blake is not a post up player (yet) as he has to develop a consistent mid-range jump shot like Kaman. This will take time. Meanwhile, while Blake is developing that phase of his game, the running game which Blake is more accustom to should be installed.
ClipperNation should should be excited about this. Imagine all these players running together: Baron leading the attack, with Gordon and Blake on the perimeters running ahead of Baron; Butler & Camby running a little bit behind these three-with Butler positioning himself to shoot a three just in case there would be a defensive coverage and Camby running to position himsel for a dunk which could be the last option; or the Baron finishing the play himself.
Of course, the Clips defense should be tighter to be able to start running. Fast break starts with good defense.
If I were MDsr, I would do a turnaround and change my style of playing. Even if the running game is done 30%-0% of the time, the game would be more exciting and perhaps more game would be won!
IT MAKES ONE THINk THAT THE CLIPS
could play with such intensity without MDsr. Brown said that the plays they ran were the same but the result was definitely different.
The rotations were timely with key players always in the lineup to sustain the team's level of perfomance. There were only a brief moments when the 2nd stringers were playing together.
Defense was good and spotting Butler when he was alone was constantly recognized by both Davis & Gordon.
They pounded the inside and never abandoned the strategy until Kaman got his rythym. DJ was effectively utilized to sub for Kaman or Camby giving both bigs their needed rest.
What other things can I say?
I hope Brown would be given more oppurtunity to coacn. MDsr should favor this. After all, it his system being used and Brown could be considered MDsr's desciple.
HOW TOUGH IS THE CLIPS SCHEDULE
ANOTHER CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF WHY MDSR SHOULD BE FIRED!
There is absolutely no reason for the Clippers to lose to the T'Blazers!
MDsr's strategy (if there was any) was so reversed. Instead of punishing the other team on the inside, he let his players shoot from the outside. Did MDsr not see that Portland had no center who could possibly stay with both Kaman & Camby? . Whoever heard of Pendegraph and Cunningham?
The problem was that there was no emphasis on what and where to focus their game. when Aldridge got hurt, the more that he should have asked his players to go inside.
Anyone knows that when a home team stays close enough, they have a chance of winning. But when the home team stay AHEAD most of the time, they could actually win the game as what happened tonight.
Why there was no sense of urgency when the 2nd stringers were not playing well was unpardonable.
Of course, once more their foul shooting was terrible! And EJ commits those stupid errors at the end of the game all the time when protecting the ball is most critical.
The coach controls their game and their players. Watching the game, I did not sense this at all.
A tough schedule
The last 3 games for 2009 and the 27 games going to the first two months of the 2010 are all tough ones. As I previously mentioned in one my blogs, the way the Clippers are playing, only 6 games are winnable. 2 vs NJ; 1 vs Min; 1 vs Wash; i vs Chi; i vs Det. through Feb 2010. Should they win all of the 6 games their projected record at the end of February would be 18 & 41 with 25 games more to go. The last 2 months are even tougher! My prediction is 5 winnable games. Are you ready for this Clipsnation? The projected record for the Clippers is a whopping 23 wins & 61 losses! Hardly an improvement from last year. Even with Blake playing, I don't think the Clipper's record would be as impressive as everyone thinks it would be with playoff games even being mentioned. Now, with this picture, would you rather play Blake early or give him more time to fully (I say fully) recover? Whoever coaches the Clippers would be tempted to play Blake right away. With the ineffecient training coaches the Clippers have, my guess is that they would allow Blake to play even at less than 90% recovery. Which means most likely he would be injured again. At the end, the Clipsnation would be frustrated again and the front office would be promising a better outlook for 2010-2011 season with a couple perhaps of first round draft pick and/or with the Clippers chasing the slippery spaniard Rubio. Of course, there would also be the prospect of getting a Big Name player like Lebron, Bosh or even Wade.
Happy New Year Clipsnation!
MDsr's FIRING WOULD MAKE GOOD BUSINESS SENSE FOR STERLING
MDsr is a businessman and could be a very good one! He is also a good negotiator (he convinced Sterling for him to occupy both positions-GM & Head Coach-this alone should prove my point).
Having a GM/Coach is economical which makes a good business sense. The decision I think is predicated on -"now that we have a better team which could be very competive and exciting and therefore could be very marketable, we only need a person to handle both jobs, thus, save overhead and make more money". This makes sense if.......
Unfortunately, the would be "star" got injured and the team is again playing not "loud" but "Louse(y)" , not competitve and boring basketball and the "assumptions" made to justify the prior decision of making MDsr both GM and Coach is now challenged if not about to be replaced with plan ":B" that is, making MDsr stepped down from coaching and focusing on running the front office; hire a new Coach . This would make the fans happy and at would be a good business decision.
The timing is about right for plan "B" and the stage is all set for the plan to be marketable:
The new coach comes with a lot of energy, excitement and build hopes to re-energize the team with
Baron Davis running the show;
Blake' s return would in three weeks making the prospect and having a decent year more attainable
A few good trades that would shore up the bench or get prospective picks
And perhaps, just perhaps, wetting the appetive of the Clipsnatiion with an all out effort of getting the infamous
Spanish Matador named Rubio.
STERLING IS A GOOD BUSINESSMAN JUST LIKE DUNLEAVY. NOTHING COULD SAVE THE CLIPSNATION FROM DESTRUCTION BUT THIS PLAN.
Do we all agree?????
MDsr Fired!!!
I guess everbody else in Clippernation is waiting for this headline.
Even though there are only 6 days before the year ends, I still predict the firing or the stepping down of Dunleavy as the coach. Yes, he would still remain as the GM where he could really be effective (as there are great opportunities next year) and helped the team.
A simple basketball fan like me, canot help but see how ineffective Dunleavy is coaching as I only have to look at the Clippers win/loss collumn for 2008 and 2009.
The games unravel everything though. The plays are ineffective, the defense close to none, the poor outside and foul throw shooting, the non-responsiveness of the players, etc. etc..etc..
Give the same set of players to a coach like a Larry B or ,a Stan V. G., or even an Alvin G., and they will make better use of these talents and will convert this team to a winner.
Dunleavy could be very good as the GM and he should develop and use his talents as such.
As a coach, he should be fired!
