Buster Davis is released
Kevin Acee is reporting that Crag Davis has officially been let go.
He only happened to catch two measly touchdowns while he was here in San Diego.
His guaranteed contract money was $5.5 million which would equate to two touchdowns for the Chargers at a cost of $2,750,000 a piece.
While his 51 caught passes work out to $107,843 each.
His career yards clock in at 558 or $9856 for every single NFL yard he produced.
That was one costly first round pick.
Anybody remember Samuel L Jackson's character in the movie "Unbreakable"?

The Illusion of Statistics, Jets-Chargers

On paper, the jets have numbers that look like an elite team. Their defense and running game get talked about as a scary threat that all teams should be worried about in the post season.
However...
The Jets rush offense is # 1 because their pass offense is ranked 31st in the NFL.
They simply can't pass at all, so they run.
Discounting their skewed rushing stats, New York's yards per game are 321 or 20th in the league. Points per game, 21.8 or 17th.
Now, about their top ranked defense…
Since their bye in week 9, they have done the following
week 10 Loss at home vs. Jacksonville Off rank 24th in points 18th in yards
week 11 Loss at New England Off rank 6th in points 3rd in yards
week 12 Won at home vs. Carolina Off rank 21st in points 19th in yards
week 13 Won at Buffalo Off rank 28th in points 30th in yards
week 14 Won at Tampa Bay Off rank 30th in points 28th in yards
week 15 Loss at home vs. Atlanta Off rank 13th in points 16th in yards
week 16 Won at Indy Off rank 7th in points 9th in yards
week 17 Won at Cincinnati Off rank 22nd in points 24th in yards

Chargers Success in the Post Season
This is a comment based post. The point is to discuss how the Chargers will fair in the post season. It's looking like they'll end up playing the Patriots in the divisional round followed by the Colts in the AFC championship. Of course that's all subject to change. But I think that's the Vegas odds.
How do the Chargers compare to the Patriots?
How do the Chargers compare to the Colts?
Will LT ramp up his productivity in the post season?
How much should the Chargers play their starters in the Redskins game?
Who is the teams most underrated player going into the post season?
What is the most pivotal position in the playoffs for the Chargers?
The Blackout has been lifted
The Union Tribune has just announced the blackout has been lifted for the Miami game. We can now all nervously watch the Chargers barely win or lose their game from the comfort of our own home.
I wonder how many of you thought it would be blacked out?
Will any of the games be blacked out this year?
Will blacked out games sit well with the Spanos family when they think about moving to another city?
Matt Wilhelm Released by the Chargers

UT's Kevin Acee has reported AJ Smith just fired Matt Wilhelm. AJ Smith claims that with the acquisition of Kevin Burnett they no longer need Wilhelms's services. He said that if they hadn't got Burnett, Wilhelm would be starting in 2010. Ouch!
It's still unclear weather or not he'll still be a Charger in next years Madden video game and if that'll effect who he plays in the popular EA Sports game.
In other news, Charger fans scramble to find a new scapegoat.
The San Diego Chargers Secret Weapons
Football is an orchestrated war. Fought by coaches using the available weapons at their disposal. Of course, not all coaches have the same weapons. However all coaches can find weaknesses in their opponents weapons system. Or, at the very least, try to contain and neutralize an opponents strongest weapons.
As a Chargers opponent, studying Norval's weapons, you've got a tough game plan to design. Essentially, what opponents do is stay aware of LT and Gates. If Sproles is in the play, limit screens. Tag their best corner on Jackson, and fire their weapons at the weakest link in the Chargers line to try and rush Rivers or stuff LT/Sproles.
Who's the weakest on the Chargers line? That's debatable. Throughout the game, opponents discover who's having a strong game and who's having a bad game. Like lions on the Serengeti, once they find a weak antelope, they coordinate their attacks on that player and try to break into the castle through the fallen wall.
The Chargers will try to patch these potential weaknesses with their two secret weapons. Tight end Brandon Manumaleuna and fullback Jacob Hester . That is their primary job. Everybody knows it and that fact can be exploited.
