The Curious Case of Alex Smith:
I don't know if any of you have ever seen the movie the curious case of Benjamin button but just in case you have not the quick synopsis of the movie tells the story of a man who was born old and as he aged he actually got younger. The movie made you ask tons of questions as to what was going to happen at the end/beginning of his life. Throughout the entire movie Benjamins "odd" situation affected everyone he came in touch with. In the beginning of the movie you felt bad for the guy and then in the middle of the movie you felt happy for him; however; before you knew it; at the end of the movie you kinda felt sorry all over again.
If you look at the Career/Life of Alex Smith he has affected many head coaches and fans in ways that only a #1 draft pick can do. If you were anything like myself you pretty much felt bad for the guy when he got drafted by the worse team in the league. Alex Smith showed that he had a backbone though and showed the 49er fans bright spots; which in turn gave the fans a glimmer of hope. With the selection of "so many weapons" I believe we all began to feel happier for the guy but now many believe that this 2011 season is either the end or beginning of his career. It is a curious case indeed and we all are asking how is this going to end(some already think they know) and is he doing any better than last year?
Join me after the jump and lets see how its looking so far in 2011 in comparison to 2010.

Braylon Edwards is a niner!
Adam Schefter is reporting it as a one year deal.
What now for Goldson?
So with cowboys signing this guy that gives them 2 safeties. What does that signing mean for Goldson if it were truly between cowboys and 49ers?
Great Game Despite the loss..6 and 2 at bye
Wow; i was on the edge of my seat the entire game for two reasons. The first being the fact that I was down by 42 points in fantasy football with only 2 players to go. Can you guess who I had left? Frank Gore and Patrick Willis and thanks to the big game by Frank and the always reliable 18 points per game in willis I came out on top. But it wasn't until Franks last touchdown that I pulled ahead.
The second reason? Well I'm sure its the same reason all of you were on the edge of your seat as well. The 49ers couldn't stop beating themselves. I've never felt good about a loss but dammit I feel good about this one because despite the fact that the 49ers are 0-2 the 49ers were the better team tonight. I imagine that Coach Singletary will be working on protecting the football this week.
There are so many good things to take away from this game that it is hard to mention them all. But Alex? All I can say is FINALLY! Its amazing what the young man can do when they get to the line of scrimmage with 15 seconds on the play clock. Lets consider the communication problem fixed! Sure Alex had 2 ints but only one was truly his fault and the other was a great play made by the saints defensive person. Another great thing to take away from this game is the fact the 49ers actually ran the football on a great defense. The young o-line is getting there and getting better for sure.
Which brings me to the 6-2 record going into the bye week. Seriously, can it not be done if the 49ers defense plays the way they did tonight against arguably the best offense in the league? And IF and I know ifs don't get you nothing but a wish sometimes; but if the offense runs the ball like they did tonight; 6 straight wins are possible. Look at the next 6 opponents and tell me that the 49ers can not win all of those games.
Kansas City, Atlanta, Philadelphia,Oakland, Carolina and Denver a bye week and then St. Louis(possibly 7-2). Wishful thinking I'm sure but after week 1 I wasn't sure what to expect but moral victories suck but in this case(for me) its okay. For all the things that went wrong last week here is another applause for Coach singletary for regathering the team and getting them to play the way they should.
Hey Mr. Adams....did it come down like a punt? ugh...smdh...
Coach Singletary I know you are good at a lot of things all i ask is this for this week and its basically football 101.... can you get them to stop turning the ball over....thanks.
"In The Front Office We Trust"
The Government is not to be trusted, The New York police department is not to be trusted, heck even your homeboy of 10+ years is not to be trusted around your beautiful lover if and for some reason you are not around(lord help you if there is binging involved). All of this is agreed and understood in the world of who to trust and who not to trust in our world. But in the sports world? I think we all can agree that their are some sports organizations that you simply can not and shall not trust when they speak. Most of them will blow smoke up the medias butt, their contracted players butts and especially the fans butt if for no reason other than sh*tz and giggles.
I am one who never trusts easily and sometimes not at all people who I do not know or even care to know. I too did not trust the 49ers front office when the Michael Crabtree situation was going on. Who knew what was really going on behind the scene? No one did other than those involved. Who knew if they were going to hire Coach Mike Singletary as full time coach after the letting go of Coach Mike Nolan? Who knows the truth behind the real reasons as to why the now Ex-GM Scot Mccloughan and the 49ers F.O parted ways? They said it was Family related? Can we trust that? Who knows but I know this dear reader; I'm trusting them more when they speak and heres why.
After Coach Mike Singletary took over as Head Coach i started to wonder how much of an impact could he have not only on the players but the entire 49ers organization. I started to trust Coach Mike Singletary in every word that came out of his mouth in his press conferences and after game media frenzies if for no other reason other than his character. I started to believe in his half-truths(if you are doubtful) solely on the fact of the MAN he portrayed to me. Here is one thing that I now realize after the trading of Donovan Mcnabb. The 49ers organization isn't two-stepping; they are marching to the beat of their own drum and for that I applaude.
I trust the Yorks with the plan that they forsee for the team. The 49ers made a statement that said " as of right now they were happy with what they have in Alex Smith" or something to that extent. There were many people who only took that as face value and always tried to read inbetween the lines.
The 49ers did not make a play for Mr. Mcnabb because if they had you can be rest assured he would be playing in the NFC West this year instead of the NFC East. Do I trust them 100%? I don't trust GOD 100% sometimes so, no; I don't. But I trust that they know better than I on the vision they have set for the 49ers future(I like this York Fella).
The last two years the 49ers have shown the ability of remaining firm in decisions and their core beliefs. The F.O. has said that they will not change the draft board very much. Do you trust that? I do. The 49ers said they would not be big spenders through Free agency and that they will build around the players on their team by the draft. Do you trust that? I now do.
The 49ers have decided to take all the what ifs out of the equation that they can without having to start over. They stuck with Coach Raye again to give continuity to the offense so that they can see if Alex Smith can do it. They are going to resign their core players just like they said they are going to do. The 49ers are staying focused on what has been working so far. The sign of something working is called progression and the 49ers as a team have progressed each year.
I write all of this to say that maybe its time for the 49er faithful to finally get behind the vision of the F.O. Yes it would be nice to have people in place that belief in upgrading needed positions every year with play-makers. But that formula has not worked very well in most sports. As a fan it does makes you feel good to know that your owner and GM are trying their best. But from a person who is a manager in a up and coming organization here in Richmond, Virginia; it makes me feel good to see a company/business commit to not only its employees but to its vision.
That makes your personnel more eager to work for you and believe in you. No one can move forward very well when looking over their backs. To watch a major organization such as the 49ers go about business in a smart way leads me to trust them more. They have proven to be respectable and dedicated in what they believe and THAT goes a long way and it should be respected. Does that translate to more wins? Not really and sadly in the world of a sports fan that is all that matters.
Will they prove me to be the "village idiot"? Only time will tell "my friends" but I know I can't be the only one ready to trust this F.O. Am I? How much of an impact do you think Coach Singletary has had on the entire organization? Is that too much credit to give him?

Bary Sims still a 49er?
Says here he has narrowed down his list to 2 teams.Redskins and 49ers...
KR/PR Specialist? >M.I.A
Now that Sproles and Cribbs are all but gone from the market unless some type of trade happens. Who else is left on the market that could possibly be an upgrade to the 49ers special teams unit? Coach Singletary mentioned after the season that the 49ers were going to be aggressive in the market for kr/pr specialist. Free agency has just begun but the 2 best options are locked up and that leads me to believe that if the C.J. spiller is available at that 13th spot then the 49ers will draft him to upgrade that position. But until then I was thinking we should get a list of potential kr/pr players started to see who would be the best bet via free agency or trades but maybe not even trades because everyone will say Sproles and Cribbs. Excluding those 2 players and the nfl draft who is the best fit for that open position. I can only think of 2 people that are free agents now and neither one of them excite me. The list starts with these 2. Help a brother out
1. Ladell Betts
2. A. Randle El
3. ?
Whats The Market on Peppers?
I'm always up for improving the 49ers in whatever capacity that the team can; whether that be by free agency, trades or the NFL draft. Of course all of this should be done with wisdom and fortitude; because as we know some things just don't work out. But we also don't want a early/mid 90's issue all over again where the team was constantly over the cap and could not afford to bring in players for depth.
Last year when Julius Peppers was asking for a trade; there seemed to have been mixed emotions from the 49er faithful about whether or not he would actually help the team. You had those who said that you can't spend that much money on a guy who has never played in a 3-4 system (as LB) and you had those who said that he would be an instant improvement over Manny Lawson and Haralson.
With that said and with it it being a year later in which we are now able to see a slightly clear and better picture of who Lawson and Haralson will be as NFL players; do you think the 49ers should go after Peppers during free agency? I am one to believe that a line up Willis, Peppers(some times finger in the ground); Spikes and Ahmad Brooks with a rotation of lawson and haralson would be pretty nasty.
And yes I think we all are aware of what it would cost to sign Julius Peppers; somewhere around 15 million per year but would it not be worth it? You can not always go by stats as the only barometer of what a player can do because some intangibles can't be recorded. But sometimes stats are all that we have to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges and some cases apples to oranges but thats neither here nor there. Here are the stats and for some reason it has slid over but the last column of numbers are where the sacks should be.
|
Julius Peppers -2009 STATS |
FANTASY 2009 | |||||
| TACK | SOLO | FF | INT | SACK | OWN(WK+/-) | AVG DRAFT |
| 42 | 36 | 5 | 2 | 10.5 | ||
| Manny Lawson-2009 STATS | FANTASY 2009 | |||||
| TACK | SOLO | FF | INT | SACK | OWN(WK+/-) | AVG DRAFT |
| 68 | 51 | 3 | 0 | 6.5 | ||
| Parys Haralson-2009 STATS | FANTASY 2009 | |||||
| TACK | SOLO | FF | INT | SACK | OWN(WK+/-) | AVG DRAFT |
| 45 | 33 | 0 | 0 | 5.0 | ||
It would seem at first glance and maybe every other glance depending on how much you hate the thought of the 49ers spending that much money on one player that Lawson is the better option for the 49ers. Does the 4 extra sacks that peppers have make him that much more valuable? Or does the 26 more tackles that lawson have make him better? Peppers is 30 and Lawson is 26 but will lawson ever reach double sack potential? I exclude haralson in the equation because i'm not totally sold that he will ever be an every down kinda player but he did play less than Lawson and only finished with 1.5 less sacks.
What is the general feeling towards Peppers? And if not the 49ers then what team do you see him going to? I just came across the nfc west blog over on sando's page and they were talking about this; you might want to go over there to check it out. I have not checked it out yet but I will after this post. Give me some feedback...I'm for it but I'm sure im in the minority(as in reality too).
Current NFL Draft Postions 2010(take 2)
Well I published this about 5 minutes ago and then I guess there was a glitch in the system of sbnation because i couldn't get it in and then when I did my fanpost was not there. So thats why it's labeled take 2 but basically what I was saying is this.
It looks as if the 49ers will not break into the top 10 for draft picks this year unless the 49ers lose to the rams on sunday and broncos lose to the chiefs on sunday leaving both teams at 7-9 on the year. I am not sure who would have the strength of schedule which would probably deteremine who would pick in head of who. What I also notice and please correct me if I am incorrect is the fact that these 2 draft picks have the possibility of ranging from the 11th pick to the 22nd pick in the draft based off what happens in the last week of the regular season; again a lot of different things plays into the final places. But for the sake of argument let's assume the the 49ers will be sitting at the currrent positions that are below the jump.
If this is the case I want to ask you a few questions about the last game of the year and other scenarios.
Question 1) Do you want the 49ers to lose the last game of the year in order to have higher draft picks or would you rather them win to finish 8-8 taking that momentum into next year?
Question 2: If you were the GM and the 49ers are sitting where they are who do you think will be available and who would you draft?
There will be a lot of mock drafts beginning very soon so feel free to do a top 15 if you have the time; let's have a healthy conversation about the direction the 49ers should go with these picks and the last week of the season. Please no name calling....
East Coast Report: Not Upset Just Frustrated
I write to you from Richmond, VA and as I sit in my office with my little space heater on full blast due to the extremely cold weather outside and not to mention the fact that the gym that I work in seems to have the a.c on; I am trying my best to not only decipher the game against the eagles but the entire 49er season.
I know that I should be upset about the way that the 49ers played yesterday and I know that I should be even more upset about the entire year but the truth of it all is this; I'm not. There could be a few reasons why this is; maybe it's because I live across the country and not in the California area so my red and gold does not run as deep as others it could be because us east coasters tend to be a little more calm about things that bother us or it simply could mean that I didn't expect much more than what the team has done this year.
There are not many true 49er fans that I have come across over here in the east coast but the few that I have been able to befriend all say the same thing and that's this "we're almost there". Even when I talk to the hardcore redskins, cowboys and steelers fans over here they too say the same thing about our beloved 49ers. Sadly enough I believe it to be a true statement.
I'm not upset with the loss to the eagles yesterday because the 49ers do not have all the pieces to the puzzle quite yet. And the 49ers are quite puzzling because one week they look like they can beat any team in the national football league and the next week they seem to be near the bottom still. And you see that is where my frustration begins and I'm sure that is why most you feel the same way.
If I were a confident man and I am I would have the courage to say that the 49ers blew this season so I wll say it the 49ers blew this season. I look back at the games that the 49ers have lost and most of them except the Atlanta game were there for the taking. The inconsistencey that this team displays should be rewarded by not making the playoffs; oh wait that's what happened. Truth be told I didn't want the 49ers to go the playoffs unless they were able to make a run to the conference championship. And I think every 49er fan knows that this team was not and is not a championship caliber team. They could have been if they had been consistent and established an identiy earlier in the season
I did not want this team to go to the playoffs as a wildcard only to get blown out which in turn would give us a worse draft pick. The 49ers are "almost there" and the 49ers need quality players who can come in and make an instant impact. The 49ers should finish the season 8-8 which by all accounts is a progression from last year. I hope that Manusky comes back as well as raye because consistencey brings championships too.
I'm excited about where this team is going and this was the first year in a long time that I have been able to sit in a bar full of drunk football fans and not get ridiculed for being a 49er fan. And let me tell you something; where I live that is a huge accomplishment. Instead of hearing J.T. OSULLIVAN!! being yelled to me from across the room like last year this year all I really heard was "you guys are going to be okay".
My advice to ninersnation is this; don't be upset with what the team didn't do this year be frustrated with what we didn't see this year but be even more excited for what they will do next year. Barring some type of unraveling in the organization and on the team the NFC West should be the 49ers for the taking.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Free Agents the 49ers will pick up and I've already taken the day off for the NFL Draft 2010 because I strongly believe the 49ers will come out of that draft class with a grade A and grade A players and I want to see it. Here's to 2010 and to finishing strong against the lions and Rams. If the 49ers lose even one of those games the next report will be titled "Screw the 49ers".
One question remains for you: Now that the 49ers are officially out of the playoffs; do they allow Nate Davis to get some playing time?
What Did You Really Expect?
Come on guys and gals what did you really expect of this game? While I was unable to watch the game I did keep up to date with the game thread with my mobile phone and I must say I'm rather disappointed in some of you. I understand that we want the the 49ers to win every game that they play but seriously?
How many of you actually picked the 49ers to win this game? Tell the truth please because if you picked them to win you would be the only person to have done so. I personally am rather impressed with the 49ers this week because I firmly believe that the colts are the best team in the league and OUR 49ers had the chance to win the game.
Why get upset with the play calling? By now you should know what to expect from Raye. Play it safe and keep the 49ers in the game. And that is what he does each and every week other than the blowout game versus Atlanta. The 49ers will get better and I believe that they did improve.
Look at the bright side Michael Crabtree is the real deal. He had 6 catches for I think 89 yards the only minus is no td's yet but with no time to sit in the pocket for Alex Smith we as 49er fans shouldn't expect to see him score deep anytime soon. Alex Smith looks like a different guy back there and that is good for the 49ers. The colts game planned against him and he threw for almost 200 yards with little to no blocking. Also look at what the defense was able to do; they held the colts to 18 points! That is pretty impressive and the 49ers will win the next game versus the Titans.
Stop beating yourself up over the 49ers losing another game. Growing pains my friends that is what it is called; if the 49ers would have played the colts last year it would have been a disaster. The 49ers will get better an eventually the 49ers will be able to win those games against the upper echelon teams in the league. Did the 49ers let another one get away with mental let downs and lack of creativity on offense? that is a strong possibility but the fact is great teams don't do that and the 49ers aren't a great team; they are in fact a team with a good defense and a below average offense that makes the 49ers as a whole just an average team.
So all the real fans please stand up and then sit back down and straddle yourself in for the rest of the season because this is how the rest of the season will go. And if you can't handle the truth of what the 49ers are this year I advise you to either jump on the saints bandwagon, stop watching the 49ers games or simply look across the bay and remind yourself that it could always be worse.

Alex Smith Named Starter
We all expected it and most of us wanted it...well it happened. I'm sure Fooch will get you the transcript of the press conference soon.
Any Given Sunday:
Now that reality has finally set in(or maybe it hasn't) that the 49ers are a slightly above aveage team I thought it would be a good idea to see what the 49er fans forsee happening the rest of season as far as remaining games. It really is quite difficult to predict the outcome of any game but throw in the fact that the 49ers just got humilitated on the field verses the falcons it makes you wonder what team will show up on sundays and in turn makes it that much harder to predict.
While it makes sense to believe that the team that played the first few weeks is the team that the 49er fans can believe in; a loss as ugly as the before mentioned makes you take a step back and rethink the games we as fans counted as a victory. There a lot of things that can happen inbetween now and Week 7 with the trade deadline fast approaching; however the more likely situation to happen is that we will see a few changes on the offensive line which will probably remain within the players that the 49ers already have on the roster.
So with that said as we all know on any given sunday anything is plausible and though we as 49er fans would love to not lose another game; the reality of it all is that the 49ers probably will. So the question I ask the 49er faithful is this. What games will the 49ers win and what games will the 49ers lose of the remaining schedule? Give me your best case and worst case scenario(if you must) and let's see who is right at the end of the season. Hopefully this will not get in the way of Fooch's weekly prediction games and if you are unaware of what that is exactly please go check it out.
After the jump I will give the remaining games and my prediction of truth.
I got it..get T.O.!
okay okay okay don't bash me...lol. I understand that the 0 Line is not great and that needs to be fixed but why not give up a 3rd round for T.O.? The bills are a horrible team this year and they only have T.O. for 1 year and he was suppose to make them better but clearly their offense is too bad for anyone to help them. But us? I think it would be smart to pick up another wr. Think about it...T.O.,Crabtree, Morgan, Davis and Gore. That is a nasty offense and if we can fix the offensive line that is an offense that should be able to score. Say what you want but he is better than any wr we currently have on our roster and he is trying his best to not get in trouble this year. He is near the end of his career and we have the chance to go to the playoffs this year so I don't see him being upset about coming back to the NFC, to a competing team and the team he started his career with...
I'm just saying....it's a thought
Hill is OUR guy(Reality Check)
Everyone slow down, take some deep breaths and count to 10 and repeat the process. I think sunday's loss was exactly what we needed not only as fans but for the 49ers as well. I think we all were sipping a little bit too much of the good kool-aid. Before the season started most of us predicted that the 49ers would go 9-7 and 10-6 at best. Some of you may have even had them slightly better than that but that was just wishul thinking by you. I hate to use a funny cliche but the 49ers are who we thought they are and that fast start against the weak NFC west got us hyped.
Coach Singletary even stated this in so many words after the game. "Just as I said before the season started, we have to play great football. We have to execute on both sides of the ball. We cannot give the ball away. And at the same time, we have to execute on the defensive side of the ball. When we don’t do that against a good football team, this is going to be the result."
The 49ers have to execute in every aspect of the game in order to be a winning team and yesterday was exactly the opposite. There really isn't any reason to see fanpost about pulling Shaun Hill out and putting Alex Smith in or that we should be getting Nate Davis ready to go(that would mean that the 49ers are giving up on the season) and you too and it is not time for that.
Yes I agree Shaun Hill played like the crap I stepped in last night when walking my dog but every person is entitled to a few bad games. Chicago Bear fans were calling for Jay Cutler's head the first 2 weeks because he looked bad but now? Now they are rejoicing for joy because he has looked great as of late. I suggest that everyone who can go back and watch the game go back and watch the game(though why would you) but if you do you will see that Shaun Hill had absolutely no time in the pocket to throw(this is how QB's develop happy feet). This problem blocking scheme the 49ers have is re-occuring because teams now know that the 49ers can not handle a pass rush right now. So I expect to see some changes very soon as Coach Singletary has stated he will do but it won't be at quarterback. I think most people would be shocked if that happens but again you just never know.
With that said; do you really think Alex Smith can do a better job with the exact same issue? After all it is Hill who is known for his short accurate throws and not Smith. Smith is more known for his mobility and deep throws but there lies(or is it lays) the problem. If you do not have enough time to drop back and pass the long throws will not matter. Some of you will say Alex Smith can roll out of the pocket! And do what exactly? When you do that you cut off half of the field for completed passes because unless you are John Elway and maybe he who shall not be named that is a throw you do not make. (Please keep in mind I am an Alex Smith supporter).
The 49ers played so terrible on sunday that there is no way to pinpoint where it all went bad. Was it the opening kick off that was so bad I wondered if my nephew couldn't have done better or was it the play calling. I personally believe that the 49ers were out coached on offense and defense which is very rare on defensive side of the ball (so all of you Greg needs to go supporters need to calm down as well).
Shaun Hill is our guy probably for the entire year whether you like it or not. If and when Shaun Hill starts to turn the ball over that is when you will see Coach Singletary make a change but that will not happen until the entire offense starts to play like an NFL offense should do. Right now they are not there mentally or physically so let's hope that the bye week will fix the problems and that Crabtree helps the team out in a big way(but I have my doubts).
This is a 9-7 team...did you really expect us to not lose anymore? Maybe not as ugly but a loss is a loss whether you lose on the last second or getting blown out; it all still hurts the same. We will be okay we really will; lets give it a few more weeks before we start talking about QB changes. Changing qb's now is not the way to go you guys know this but new O.lineman? Maybe.
HILL IS OUR GUY but I'm sure Crabtree is saying...why didn't I wait one more week.
Trade deadline is upon us...
Like the headline has stated there are only 2 weeks to go before the trade deadline will pass and of course there will begin a lot of rumors as to who should, could and need to get traded. It was just reported that the browns traded Braylon Edwards to the Jets. Before yesterday's interesting day with hammer and crabtree I was one who was thinking that maybe the 49ers would make a play for a wr before the trade deadline. I'm sure we will hear and read a lot of rumors involving our beloved team but I am sure that I am not the only one who believes that something a little more is needed on the offensive side of the ball. I'm not saying that need is a wide receiver because of the new developments of yesterday but I will say that I believe the team needs to make a move for a more savvy offensive lineman to help give Shaun Hill protection. I no longer believe we need anything added on defense because the defense just looks great and I'm more content with Manny,Willis, Spikes and Parys than ever before.
I am not in the know but I know what we need as do you; so with the trade deadline coming up does anyone feel that the 49ers should be making a move for a new player? Or even quite possibly another draft pick? I don't see us trading away a player but you just never. What should the 49ers do before the trade deadline?
Oh Well..its was good while it lasted
I can't even bare to watch the games anymore I can't even bare going to espn.com and looking at the standing to see how far behind we are anymore. It's officially over in my book barring some foreseen scoring happening over the new few weeks this season is over. The giants currently sit 5.5 games back and we lost a series to the pads? Seriously and now we get blown out by the dodgers. I always felt like it would come back to bite us in the butt but I guess this season has been better than anyone could have imagined. It's just sad because it even looks like good ole timmy won't win the cy young this year either. I was thinking about how good he would really be if he actually had some run productions. He would probably have 20 wins easily.....so sad. Here's to next year fellas......let's hope we actually get some free agents that can hit...say what you will about Bonds but even he didn't need steroids to hit a ball in play!
Crossing my fingers...doing a couple hail mary's...praying on my knees and doing the crossing of the chest...all for the dreams of being a wildcard team.....
What are the chances.....
that the giants actually catch the Dodgers? Right now the giants sit 5.5 games back of the dodgers and I've heard so many fans and sports reports say that the dodgers are safe if they put just one good week together. We have roughly 30 games remaining with 21 of those games involving felllow National League West Teams. I'm sure the dodgers have just as many of their games left in the west too(I didn't check)I want to believe very much that we can overtake the dodgers but Ive watched games that the giants are suppose to win actually lose. The west is tough and the padres and diamondbacks are not going to let us just stroll in and win just ask the the dodgers who lost to arizona recently(OH I LOVED IT). Does it bother anyone else about the thome/penny signgings because It also amazes me that the dodgers who have hitting went out and got another hitter and the giants who have no hitting but great pitching went out and got another pitcher..hmmm. I guess teams stick to what works but does Thome put the dodgers as untouchable now? I just want to know what everyone's feelings are right now at this point in the season. Does the majority think we will overtake them, win the wildcard or simplly crash and burn?
I think i saw....
a J.T. O'sullivan sighting. Say it ain't so boss say it ain't so. With just one highlight i was thrown into nightmarish flash backs of last year. It brought back memories of when he threw long td bombs and I felt so excited! How could we let such a good player go like I.n.T? And to the bengals! who knew! Boy; it actually saddens me that we were so pathetic the first half of the year that we actually felt good about this guy. But anyway thanks Sportscenter for not warning me before the highlight came on. Next time say this " Warning this footage not suitable for true 49er fans, it is strongly encouraged that you change the channel due to the content about to be shown" Now see if all highlights that included J.t. oops I mean I.nT O'sullivan said this we wouldn't be reminded of the pain and hurt but just incase anyone was interested here you go but

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d81209b0e/NFLTA-Bengals-vs-Patriots-highlights
Here's to Carson Palmer staying healthy. THe only thing that could be worse than last year is watching J.T. start games for the bengals and do great. And just incase you want his stats 10-13 for 141 yards with a td...how dare he!
What is Taking so long?
OKay call me stupid, and an idiot for not knowing how many other teams have signed their first round draft
pick but as i sit here with only a few weeks to go before training camp I realize we still have not signed Crabtree to a deal. So I pose the question again? What is taking so long? Are they at a difference of what it should be? And better yet can someone please let me know who else in the top 10 has not signed their picks as of yet. I do not want us to have a situation where a guy we all are waiting to see in action misses crucial practice time and preaseason games all because of a contract. Crabtree has state that he doesn't want any of that to be a problem and just wants to get signed so he can learn as much as possible. We obviously have the money available to sign him so seeing how we have not gives me some obvious concerns. So help a brother out and let me know what the deal is? And I pose another question....oh forget it I will just do a poll.
*worried 49er fan*
Thoughts on niners two #1's next year.
Barring some huge trade this year that involves the 49ers giving up both or even 1 of those pick I was curious as to what everyone think the 49ers organization might do with these picks. I personally believe that the 49ers are done spending money in free agency or trades. So if that is the case that means we will be sitting pretty next year for the 2010 draft.
The 2010 draft will be one of the best drafts witin the last few years with names such as Sam Bradford, Colt Mccoy, Tim Tebow, Taylor Mays(my favorite), Brandon Spikes, Sergio Kindle, Ndamukong Suh to name a few. We all know there is no way of predicting the future but it would be interesting to see if someone could get it right a year in advance.
I just read an article that suggest the 49ers might do everything within their means to make sure Nate Davis gets on the roster even going as far as placing him on the IR. But for me I'm thinking that with much more proven college qb's about to come out why wouldn't the 49ers package a trade up for say a Sam Bradford? I guess a lot of it depends on what spot we have with these picks that determines the value. Does anyone know the value of first round draft picks?
Or might the 49ers organization do a complete turnaround of what they said they would no longer do and use one of those picks as trade bate for an unhappy player? What are some other possibilities?
Leroy Hill? What do we know....
Hey I just saw that the seahawks took the franchise tag off of Leroy Hill upon drafting curry from wake. What do we know about Leroy Hill? Is this guy any good or any better than someone on our team? Whats the ninernation inside on him? Is he a inside linebacker or outside?
Does anyone think this would be worth going after instead another unproven draft pick? I know its cheaper to sign a draftee but this guy is only 26? Thoughts? No?
Cornerbacks Galore....
We all have seen the 49ers bring in cornerbacks for interviews, probably looking to find a player to replace the solid Walt harris. There have been 3 released players recently that intrigue me and I was just curious as to everyone elses opinion.
B.More Ravens just released Samarie Rolle who I find to be a above average corner better than Payman and Green(IMO). And a few weeks ago Chris Mccallister. Here are Rolles stat from 08 with none from Mccallister due to injury but why not sign him to low contract and see if he can help.

Carolina Panthers just released Ken Lucas who was rather productive as well. A young veteran can help bring along Reggie Smith, Spencer or Brown. Here are Lucas's stats..

Now in comparison to Eric Green who just signed with the dolphins and who the 49ers brass brought in for an interview; the before mentioned players had better years. Green's stats are this....

And in comparison to Karl Paymah who I haven't even heard of who was also a part of that horrible pass defense all the corners recently released are considerably better are they not? Here are Paymah's stats...
| Stats Overview | Tackles | Misc | Interceptions | |||||||||||
| SPLIT | TOT | SOLO | AST | SACK | STF | STFY | FF | BK | INT | YDS | AVG | LNG | TD | PD |

| Career | 101 | 89 | 12 | 0.0 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 13 | 4.3 | 13 | 0 | 12 |
So my question is this? Should the 49ers be looking at any of these corners to bring in to help make us better on defense? Or do they continue to hope that the corners we have on the team blossom this year into solid corners. Or better yet do the 49ers use more draft picks on young players and try to train them into their style of player? I personally think it would be best to sign a Lucas or Rolle for about 4 years and draft corners 2 years from now that we can build around. What is everyone thoughts?
I mean the stats speak for themselves don't they? And the ages of the players are all around the same pretty much. 26 and 32? heh its the same(all you old heads like that) 30 the new 20! But seriously I can not be the only one who wanted to close their eyes on every play that there was a deep ball thrown on us. Now yes I know we didnt have a pass rush to help out but there is a such thing called a "coverage sack" they need to come up with a stat category for that and if they did I can promise you we were probably dead last in the league. So just thoughts...no smart comments
I DISLIKE....NO I HATE...
(I was told once that when writing in an email or post that putting words in bold emphasizes a strong opinion of the matter)
I HATE THE WASHINGTON FREAKIN REDSKINS...THE FORESKINS...THE DEADSKINS AND ALL THAT THEY REPRESENT! AND RIGHT NOW I'M TRYING TO UNDERSTAND HOW A TEAM WITH HARDLY NO CAP SPACE CAN SIGN D.HALL AND A. HAYNEWORTH FOR ALL THE MONEY THAT THEY DID? AND ON TOP OF THAT WHERE IS THE TAMPERING CHARGE? SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW THAT WORKS? BECAUSE IF WE(THE 49ERS) MAKE A PHONE CALL WE GET HIT WITH THIS BOGEOUS CHARGE BUT YET SNYDER CAN SIT DOWN WITH HAYNEWORTH'S AGENT AND HAVE A CONTRACT DRAFTED AND READY GO AT 6:00AM EASTER TIME? GET THE HECK OUT OF HERE.....
TO FUEL THIS ANGER IS THE FACT THAT THERE IS LITTLE TO DO ABOUT IT AND I WILL HAVE TO SIT AND WATCH THEM ON T.V EVERY SUNDAY BECAUSE VA LIKES THE REDSKINS.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE 49ERS FRONT OFFICE HEAR MY CRIES THROUGH ALL THE OTHER FANS IN THE WORLD....DONT SIT PAT AND SIGN NO NAME PEOPLE..LETS GET AT LEAST ONE PERSON WHO WE CAN BE EXCITED ABOUT.
(For what it is worth, you have to at least admire a owner who goes out and brings in the guys to win(even if they don't and even if their system sucks).

Other QB's with Possibilities......
I was just on msnbc's sports page and they were talking about the free agent Qb's and those who might be available in a trade if the price is right. And it got me to thinking as to why there have not been any mention of other Qb's besides vick and cassel. I think we can pretty much all agree that Coach Sing is GOING to bring in another qb to compete and I think we can all agree it won't be anyone worse than what we already have. With that said why no mention of these names for us....
Byron Leftwich: "Byron Leftwich would be my top free agent target at quarterback. He will come a fraction of Warner's price, and provides a high ceiling. This is former top-ten pick in his prime with a big arm and solid stats in his 46 career starts: 54 touchdowns, 38 interceptions, 24 wins, and a 6.7 yards-per-attempt average.
There are warts: his long delivery, lack of mobility, and injury history. But you don't make it to free agency without warts, and Warner also has plenty of shortcomings. Warner also has the perfect team around him who plays to his strengths. Leftwich could be successful if he was lucky enough to find a similar situation". So why not? what are the arguments here?
Trade Bate Mate:
"Matt Cassel will probably cost a first-round pick and change to acquire from the Patriots. Otherwise, the Patriots look prepared to keep him as expensive one-year insurance policy. Derek Anderson could probably be acquired for a mid-to-late round pick, but he won't go anywhere until Cleveland pays his roster bonus on March 15. Matt Leinart and Vince Young could also possibly be available for the right price. If your team doesn't make any free agent moves in March, they could be gearing up for a run at a trade in late April."
My thought: I would certainly not be upset with giving up a mid to late round pick for Derek Anderson. Any disagreements there? I am against Matt Cassel for a 1st rounder and I don't see the new front office making that move when we most assuredly need that pick. No on Leinart (another smith but slightly better) and no on young(and you all say vick can't throw) I'd rather have Patrick Ramsey.
So what are your thoughts on Bringing in any of these mentioned 25 backs.
Sorry but Vick article sighting...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3922780
I know most of you on this site and many others are fully against the 49ers bringing mike vick onto our team because of his past legal issues and also the potential of the fan fall out and medi fall out. But here's a question to consider...what if? What if Vick has learned from his past mistakes. What if Vick can get back into football shape? Are you guys telling me that the upside is not better than Shaun Hill or Alex Smith? Seriously? Don't get me wrong guys I am a Shaun Hill supporter and I feel Hill should be the leading candidate for the starting qb position. But sports is about competition and vick can only make them guys better. It truly is a win win situation for us? If the falcons try to trade him(they might cut him) the most they will get from anyone would be a 5th or 6th round draft pick? Now correct me if I'm wrong but don't most 5-7th round draft picks get either put on a practice squad or cut from the team? This is why singletary has not said no to vick..the only reason that unnamed spokesperson said they have no interest is to be careful. The 49ers do not want to get hit with another "tampering" situation. Its a win win in my book, if he gets his act together he makes us better, if he doesn't pan out as able to do it anymore at least the competition was for the better.
Come on guys...lets put aside the bias legal issues he had.I know its not a completely fair thing because Shaun Hill hasn't played as many but lets do what we can. Compare the stats....and lets not forget its not like VIck had playmaking receivers to throw to either(can you name them). He had to "play to win the game"...lol...that never gets old. What if we draft a qb and pay him more than what he's worth only to probably cut him in the future(hmmm) or what if we sign a free agent qb who's a veteran and pay him an over priced contract because we want the best competition(hmmm)..yeah what if's suck and aren't worth a stack of dimes.....but what if?

Dre Bly9( I did this is in Feb.) these were your thoughts
Just wanted to get some thoughts on Dre Bly. Does anyone think this would be an upgrade for us? Not over Clements but over Walt and Spencer? I was a big fan of Dly coming out of UNC because he was very very good and he was good at Detroit too his team just sucked. But something happened last year with the broncos that made that secondary atrocious and I think it is mainly because they had no pass rush at all and any secondary would struggle when that is non existent...I.E. the 49ers. I'm thinking its an upgrade and worth bringing him in I don't see why they cut him, I checked his stats and he had 77 tackles last year and 7 ints in 2 years with him(which isn't great) but more than Roman. Clements doesn't have many ints either I don't believe but he is very reliable and doesn't shy away from tackling...a physical corner is needed! Thoughts?
Julius Peppers Chance?
I was reading on the nfl.com where Peppers agents released a statement that peppers want out and will not sign a long term deal. It also stated that he wants to play in a 3-4 theme that allows him to use all of his atheltic ability....heres the link
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80e2d282&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
He wants to get away from Carolina and I would assume that might also mean away from the east coast teams because that is all he is use to. What do you think the chances are that the 49ers brass will spend the big bucks to get him? We all have stated that we need a pass rush and that if the yorks can spend the money on Nate Clements then this should be a no brainer right?
Anychance this happens guys? What are your thoughts?
Is it a Good Season and what Ifs?
*First let me say; never get up from the bar with 8 minutes to go even if your team looked worse than the St. Louis Rams; I was shocked to find out it was17-16 when I plopped my butt on the couch and could feel my sadden spirit beginning to make the rest of my day bad but then the score flashed across while I was watching the beginning of the redskins and I was jumpin for joy!!!! Okay sorry.....back to the post
I was trying to to dig deep into past fanpost or post in general from this site to see what the consensus was on what would be considered a good season. I will admit I got a little tired of searching and decided to just post a blog.
If the 49ers win next sunday against the deadskins/foreskins(va's team) then that leaves us with a record of 7-9. And there is a part of me that is sastified with that; I joke all the time with the many cowboy fan's here in Richmond, Va that us going 8-8 is a good season and them going 10-6 is an awful season. I honestly feel that way ;while I would obviously rather be in the playoffs this year I can't help but be feeling pretty good after seeing where we came from last year and almost ended up there again this year 7-9 isn't bad for us; heck 6-10 is almost just as good.
How many games did us 49er fans say would be good enough for us? I think i recall many people saying if we won 2 more games than we did last year that Mike Nolan's job might be safe(so Coach Sings should be).
What IF's: What if that ref had not made that call against the cardinals a few weeks ago? We would going into the last week of the season with a shot at winning the division
What if Mike Nolan were still the coach? I imagine we would be still stuck at 2 games won but you never know maybe the team started to gell at the right time, the 49ers have been known to gather momentum at the end of seasons.
What if Alex Smith hadn't got reinjured? Lets remember he was listed as the 2nd string QB and Shaun hill was 3rd. The 49ers would be going into next season not knowing who our starter is AGAIN or would we? Maybe Smith would get it together..(Hill should have it by now even if we lose next week).
What if we never signed Issac Bruce? I recall many people saying the bruce signing was a waste of time and that he would do nothing but help coach the younger receivers. Now that may be the case on some level still but he by far has been our best receiver and I don't see us winning any of the last 4 games without him..am I wrong?
well those are my thoughts for now and as Al Gore would say in one of the funniest episodes of South park I have ever seen....
"I'm super serial right now guys...man bear pig is real"
Do You Realize?
That we are still only 3 games out of 1st in our division? This season is not over yet; I for one am not sold on arizona after they got manhandled by the eagles last night. We have the bills, jets , dolphins, rams and deadskins. And even though I'm a o.o.f( overerly optimistic fan) I think those games are winnable anyway. Am I alone in this thinking? The cardinals have the rams, vikings, patriots and seahawks. In the NFC west much like the AFC west anything can happen with divisional rivarly games.KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!!!
