The move to San Francisco is interesting to me. I feel good and bad about it at the same time giving me an overall neutral feeling. I've been going to about 10 or so games per year for the last few years and can't say that there could be a better crowd than what we have on a good day. The fans are the heart of this team right now and likely how we have performed so well with such strange rosters over the years.

The move to SF is going to change that. The same fan won't be going to the games. Think about those last few years for the Giants at the Stick. Die hards only. Move to downtown SF and the crowd was terrible. Felt like more people were watching their kids play out in left field than were watching the game going on in the infield. The money is rolling, but the experience is not made for the die hards who don't care where the game it, they come for THE game.

To take another step with the Giants, they aren't opening up the check books either. The World Series win was in some ways a fluke. They crawled back to make it to the playoffs and got a blank slate there and stayed hot. I'm not trying to downplay what they did - it was an amazing way to end the season - but now reality has settled in. They just weren't as good as they seemed.

So let's bring this back to the Warriors: This is a business built for the people getting paid. If it were structured for the fans, it wouldn't work. Lacob and Guber want to move the team to make more money. It is a business right? So what about the fans in Oakland and the dreams of a championship?

We are all being fed line after line. Playoffs? Nope. Big free agent signings? Nope. Hope for this roster? Some. A whole lot of talk? Yup! A whole lot of walk? Nope.

So are the owners really after a championship? I'm not so sure. The new stadium will not only be used for the Warriors, but many other events. It is going to be a cash cow for them and it's no wonder they want to privately fund it. These guys are business men who moved into the sports world to make more money.

Clearly the warriors were already a profitable team since they were willing to outbid everyone and buy the team for $450 million when the team wasn't estimated to be worth that much. Did previous profits = playoffs and championships? No. So why would future higher profits make anything different?

I don't care about how to get to the game or if the Warriors are Oakland's team because BART will still get you there cheaply and they aren't calling them Oakland Warriors or even the SF Warriors, in fact they are basically the California Warriors. I don't really are about those things.

It all comes down to winning. Where do our owners want to win more: On the court or in the bank? Are we all being fed the lines to bring us into the arena and spend our money? Let me know what you think in the comments.

Buzz: Allen is Maynard's younger half-brother, so it shouldn't have come as a surprise that they had a strong connection last season. Allen is the more talented of the two; he had 98 receptions for 1,343 yards but only six TDs last season. Maynard threw for 2,990 yards and 17 TDs, but he has to cut down on his interceptions (12).

My theory is that this is a setup for an 11th hour trade for Dwight Howard:

Warriors receive: Dwight Howard

Magic receive: Bogut and D. Wright

Why do the magic do this: It will be the 11th hour and there are no more options. Dwight is leaving for New Jersey no matter what they do. May as well dupe some other team for a few assets going forward.

Why the Warriors to this: They are itchy to appeal to the fans. Dwight will bring in some money for the season and it won't make the loss of Monta Ellis so bad.

Warriors Line up:

Curry/Nate/Jenkins

Thompson/Jackson/Rush

SJAX/Rush/McGuire/C. Wright

Lee/Tyler/D-Leaguer?

My thoughts on the likelihood of this: 50%. I think that the front office would jump on this opportunity and drink the kool-aid that Dwight might actually consider staying and playing with Curry, Thompson and Lee

I know we can all dream, but Marcin Gortat (who was backing up Dwight Howard) looks legit. Averaging 15 & 10 with a good contract (only about 6-7mil/year). I put together a trade machine taking back the bad contact of Josh Childress to even it out. I'd do this in a heart beat, but that probably means the Suns likely are not interested...

Why the Warriors do this: Duh, for the big man and a little extra depth (Chris Wright will have to go...)

Why Phoenix does this: Monta will fit in for their running offense. Playing with Steve Nash will work for them and when Nash retires (he is 38) Monta can take over this team like the Warriors. Childress has a lot of contract left and could be an amnesty option for them. We can alleviate that issue for them. It would also mean rebuilding the team around Monta in a year or two.

Why Phoenix doesn't do this: Gortat is the most valuable player in the deal and there isn't a whole lot behind him at center (Lopez and Frye). This contract is a nice sweet spot for his production. A backcourt of Nash and Ellis is worse defensively than Curry and Ellis!

2012 Draft: To Pick or Not to Pick, That is the Question

Not claiming that I'm the second coming of Shakespeare here, but I have a few thoughts on the pick that seems to have been in limbo forever all due to our most hated Warrior of all time: Marcus Williams.

The background: In 2008 the Warriors were in need of a point guard and found Marcus to be an acceptable floor manager and decided that since he would make the team soooo good that they could send their first round draft pick as a conditional pick (just in case it doesn't workout so well). This means that when the Warriors finished poorly and Marcus contributed a little less than nothing, we got to keep our pick and as the years have gone by and we continued to not get much better, get worse, etc., we still got to use our pick. Then we sent our 2011 second round pick to further protect it, but that hasn't helped much. (If you want a great article about this: READ THIS ONE). Now that you are caught up, you know that we are only going to keep this pick if it is a top-7 selection in this draft and gets lesser protected as we go into more years ahead up until 2015. This means that we can't trade any 1st round picks due to NBA rules until this matter is taken care of.

Current state: 2012 is upon us and we are looking the same as ever: Not good enough for playoffs and not bad enough for a top pick. Additionally this year is supposed to be a great draft, but that's where I'm going to cut in- I DON"T THINK THIS YEARS DRAFT IS THAT GOOD!!!! It is deep, but I'm not seeing any franchise players out there. I think the best NBA player will be Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, but I also don't think that he will declare for the draft this year.

So what do we do this year?

We win. We try really hard to get some system in place with the guys we have.Get that chemistry rolling and enjoy the hell out of the season. That pick is going to the Utah Jazz (as of know), so let's get them the worst pick that we can. I'd rather them get the 14th pick than the 8th.

We let the pick go. This will open up all the options for trading future picks to get a real superstar in the Bay. Who knows, we could have had a shot at Kevin Garnett, Chris Paul and even Dwight Howard if we could have sent over a few picks. We can let that ghost of an over weight, lazy, terrible shooting point guard and the only truly detrimental mistake that Chris Mullin made as a GM leave in one night as that buzzer sounds for the last time this season.

Free Agent WRs to target

I took a look at a list of impending free agents and wanted to know who the community thinks we should target to upgrade the WR position. I think we can easily retain Josh Morgan (he was our leading receiver at the time of his injury) and Ted Ginn (now we all know how important he was this past year), but we should try to bring in two more WR that can really play. I want to see those two TE, three WR plays - someone will be wide open for Alex.

If you have been in a cave for the last few days, the Lakers made a major play to get Chris Paul from the New Orleans Hornets. They basically were going to give away their entire front court for him. In the meanwhile, NO actually seems to get the better of the deal player-wise (Lakers forward Lamar Odom, Rockets guards Kevin Martin and Goran Dragic and forward Luis Scola) which would be quite a team. Don't forget the Houston Rockets who get Pau Gasol out of this.

I don't think that the Lakers benefit from this move. The only way it works out is if they are able to get Dwight Howard or one of the other few top-top centers in the league. They are putting a lot of eggs in one basket just to match Paul with Howard one day (Yes, I know Kobe Bryant is still around, but this is a move for the post-Kobe era). It certainly doesn't make them my favorite to win anything until they address the front court (all they have left over is Andrew Bynum who's knees are reminding me of what is happening to Brandon Roy).

But this wasn't about winning championships! Gilbert Brown didn't buy the Cavs thinking he really had a chance to win anything until LeBron came along. This is about money, just like the new CBA. If all the superstars go to all the large market teams, then the small market teams will have no draw for fans nor large TV contracts, etc. That means that there is less revenue to share.

New Orleans would be a lot better after this trade. A lot of guys who are unselfish, who can score and play as a team. Think about if the Warriors had all those pieces? We would be juiced. But in the end, this was not about Wins and Loses, it was about money and the owners whining away once again about how they can't maintain their riches.

While everyone thinks that LA got screwed in this deal, I think the opposite, they got saved. Just like the rest of the owners. The league office is always looking out for their own...

Kevin Arnovitz, ESPN.com: If you're someone who believes that experience on an NBA bench is a prerequisite, then it's Golden State with Jackson. If you feel that "players buying in" is overrated, then it's Houston with McHale. If you think that incumbency shouldn't mean anything, it's Indiana with Vogel. And if you insist the Lakers could've had anyone under the sun, then Brown might be a head-scratcher.

Rahat Huq, Red94: Anyone who watched the Cleveland Cavaliers even passively during "The LeBron Era" would share befuddlement over the Lakers' selection of Mike Brown over far more appealing candidates. The defense was solid, sure, but few have been less imaginative with a clipboard. Most disturbing is that franchise icon Kobe Bryant was not consulted for the decision, foreshadowing inevitable turbulence.

Graydon Gordian, 48 Minutes of Hell: Mark Jackson is the worst hire so far. I've always enjoyed Jackson's work as a color commentator, but his résumé does not suggest he's prepared to be a head coach in the NBA. He may prove to be a success, but there are several other candidates whose capabilities are more certain.

John Converse Townsend, Truth About It: Golden State. The Warriors fell in love with Mark Jackson's strong personality and undeniable leadership skills, but it remains to be seen whether he can translate those qualities to the chalkboard. Jackson must quickly find a way to keep the undisciplined Warriors in line. His job depends on it.

Jared Wade, 8 Points, 9 Seconds: I am a St. John's University alum and the '98 Pacers are perhaps my favorite team of all time, but I just can't see any way that the Mark Jackson hire works out well in Golden State. If Monta Ellis gets dealt, that could help, but his inexperience plus that roster is worrisome.

Not sure if this has been covered on the boards yet, but I heard this on the radio in some form and I have expanded on it below (I'm not trying to take credit for the idea in the first place):

Alex Smith is Harbaugh's secret weapon. How you may ask? This is how:

Harbaugh trusts Alex Smith: He gave him boxes with copies of the playbook when the lockout was lifted briefly. Entrusting Alex to run "Camp Alex" and teach the players the plays as extension of himself was an amazing tactic. Alex runs the show for Harbaugh and in return is gaining the respect and experience one needs to be a successful QB in the league. [Note that there is no way he runs off with a copy to sell to the highest bidder. It would end his playing career that very second]

Alex Smith trusts Harbaugh: By taking on the responsibility to be a "player coach" Alex is trusting Harbaugh to resign him. Alex has no guarantees, yet he is still doing this and offering to help pay to get rookies there to buy into the system. He will make more after this lockout with the 49ers than any other team for running the camp.

So what happens when the lockout is over? We won't really know, but I can assure you that Caps is taking this seriously. He wants the starting job and I think that Harbaugh wouldn't hesitate to give it to him if he shows that he can handle it. So whether or not Alex is our starting QB come opening day, it won't matter- Alex Smith will already have made his biggest contribution to the 49ers in his career and will be worth whatever contract he gets (I'm assuming it will be a one year deal too).
