Another Strong Recruiting Class

Rivals.com ranks Miami #11 overall, ESPN.com ranks them at #7 behind perennial powerhouses like LSU, USC, Texas & Florida, but still beating out the likes of Michigan & Ohio State.

While this may not be the #1 recruiting class from last year, it's clear that the returning talent from last year along with blue chip prospects like Bryce Brown, RB, Kansas (unsigned) & Ray Ray Armstrong, S, Florida (signed) the Canes could be on track to crack into the Top 25, and stay there.

Brown is the only recruit not to have signed a letter of intent. He has until 2/23 to do so. It is rumored that he may be headed to Oregon. When you lay both Miami and Oregon on the table this should be a no brainer. Sunny weather vs. freezing weather, hot girls vs. girls? what girls?, 5 Nat'l Championships vs. have we ever seen a bowl game?, countless players in the NFL vs. name 5 Ducks in the pros. Where would you go if you were 19? There are many universities, but only one is the "U"

Add another name to the long list of accusers, Mandy Moore has accused GSP of greasing during their encounter in early 2008.

The Post Sun Gazette Times has the info:

"Georges was inside my guard, as i tried to get my legs up in a high guard position, my legs kept slipping. He maintained a dominant position, and eventually finished me. He could have NEVER finished me without all that lube"

While some of us may have felt that BJ Penn was just being a sore loser, it's hard to discredit the accusations of fine, ethical people like Sean Sherk, and Jason "Mayhem" Miller. This thing just may have some legs.

Dirt On D-Wade

According to reports by the Miami Herald, Dwyane gave his wife the gift that keeps on giving. She is accusing D-Wade of Adultery and giving her an STD.

Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade's divorce from wife Siohvaughn, his high school sweetheart. In legal papers, she alleges he abandoned his children, committed adultery, and infected her with an unspecified sexually transmitted disease. She wants the names of ''all of his sexual partners'' during their six-year marriage.

Siohvaughn also goes on to say how the situation has affected her.

She also says she has suffered ''grievous physical, emotional and mental injury'' from the STD, diagnosed in the fall of '07. (The infection is not HIV or a ''killer thing,'' sources say.) Dwyane and his ''paramour or paramours'' are liable, she alleges.

D-Wade has most recently been linked to actress Gabrielle Union

Up until now Dwyane Wade has had one of the cleanest images in the NBA and has been one of the most marketable players in the NBA. Kobe cheated on his wife and messed around with the wrong chick and lost millions in sponsorship along with his squeeky clean image. Let's hope Dwyane escapes from this divorce quick and painless.

Rich Franklin Interview

I came across this interview at asylum.com

No huge revelations here. Rich does admit to being beat by a High School student and about his time as a teacher, you can read the whole thing by clicking on the link above. As a side note, this was linked off of the main AOL page. Just a sign of good things to come. MMA is slowly creeping into the mainstream.

Did you ever train with the school wrestling team? One of the seniors at the high school, he and I wrestled. And we wrestled his style of wrestling, which was free-style wrestling and we wrestled my style of wrestling and I remember when we wrestled my way I ended up triangling him and when we wrestled his way he ended up pinning me. And that was a big deal for the students.

Do any of your former students show up at your matches? I see students from time to time. I have about a half a dozen of them that keep in contact with me. When I was teaching, I was fighting professionally. Not in the UFC, but I was fighting professionally and I would have students that would show up for the fights. The parents didn't care, they were pretty OK with everything and that's kind of rare because when you're in a suburban school district you're dealing with a lot of conservative parents. But I actually had some parents that came to my matches.

Cowher NOT Interested in Browns or Coaching in '09?

source: cleveland.com

Browns owner Randy Lerner said today that former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher told him he was not interested in joining the Browns.

This is really no surprise considering Cowhers Steeler roots. By going to the Browns, he would forever tarnish his image in Pittsburgh.

Cowher went on to say that he was quite comfortable with his currrent position.

Speculation for his replacement had been centered on Cowher for several weeks, but Lerner said Monday that he met with Cowher on Saturday night and that Cowher said he would not return to coaching in 2009 and asked Lerner to take him off the Browns list of candidates.

Cowher told Lerner that he was comfortable with his lifestyle in North Carolina at this time

If you were looking for some glimmer of hope that Cowher may be coaching next year, you may find it here:

"I got word that he was available for an informal conversation because he was very aware I had him at the top of the list, getting involved with the Browns," Lerner said. "He wanted to tell me personally that he did not anticipate coaching in 2009.

Just because Cowher does not "anticipate" coaching doesn't mean he will not. The first team to attempt to court him also happens to be a rival of the city and the team where he is considered a legend. Given enough money, staff and team control, i believe the opportunity to coach a New York team could be too enticing to pass up.

Hello all,

I have been trolling on this site for awhile but finally decided to join today. I have a question, and i wanted to get the opinion of some of the fine folks on this site.

My younger brother is a HUGE Steeler fan, and the other nite he made the case that Big Ben would eventually be a Hall Of Fame QB, and that Ward was essentially a lock to be in.

I lIke watching the Steelers but I am not a die hard fan and believe that i have a more objective opinion, while i believe his opinion to be a bit bias.

In short, I don't think Ben stands a chance, while Hines is 50/50.

What is the concensus of Behind The Steel Curtain?

After visiting this site religiously for over a year now. I have had some really intelligent, and sometimes funny conversations with some of you, and also some pretty heated arguments as well. For the most part, it's always been in good taste, and most everyone, including the staff is generally respectful. It almost feels as if i know some of you personally. Although I have never met any of you on this site i feel that i could get along with most of you just as well in person.

With that said, because i don't know any of you i thought it would be interesting to find out some things about you. Let's start here:

1. First Name (if you care to)

2. Location

3. Where you'll be watching UFC 92 (your house, friends house, or a bar)

I'll start 1st.

Mike

Lantana, Florida

Friends House

MMA Weekly has the info.

Following a rocky time in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, capped by a surprising knockout loss to Octagon newcomer Junior dos Santos at UFC 90, Chute Boxe fighter Fabricio Werdum has left the promotion.

Sources tell MMAWeekly.com that Werdum's exit comes on the heels of a failed contract renegotiation following the loss to dos Santos. The Brazilian came into the fight with the expectation that he would soon be contending for a heavyweight title shot.

I would have like to seen him have 1 "bounce back" fight in the UFC before totally writing him off. Flash knockouts can happen to anyone. But it seems that the UFC is not willing to invest HW fighters unless their names are Lesnar, Couture, Mir or Noguera. Let's hope Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez never get KOed.
