Haynesworth, let's not hop on that bandwagon.
It seems that every time a player is released of is a pending FA, we always discuss what that player can bring to the Giants. I'm asking everyone now, when Fat Al becomes available, let's leave that guy alone.
So much comedy after a Giant loss
Sometimes after a loss like we just suffered, I need a good laugh and I can always find them at BBV.

I have the feeling that we'll be chatting a little more in the season...

Keep on "Truckin"
Eddie Kendricks sang the song, but the Giants RBs are the real "Truckers".
Eli Manning vs Phil Simms
My first Fanpost since the new toys were installed. This is truly awesome. Gotta love spellcheck Two thumbs up to Big Blue View.
My question is should Phil come in to consult Eli and how much could he help?
Drafting from a "weak" conference
This is something just a little different from the WR discussions that have been going around for the last couple of weeks. The topic is not about WRs but inspired by a WR we drafted.
There was a post I read that showed a little concern with the number of our earlier picks coming from the ACC. Yes, the ACC is basketball country but the football is improving and should only get better. I'll admit that I don't see the SEC being threatened by the ACC, but I think the ACC should get a little more credit. The ACC plays some decent ball and produces some quality players.
I've comprised a team of ACC players that would give any team a run for their money. This is not an allstar roster but just a few starters (a couple of HOFers from the past, a lot of present starters, and a couple of future stars.
Here's my team:
Offense
Tackles - Walter Jones (Florida St) , Eugene Monroe (Virgina)
Guards - Chris Meyers (Miami), Chris Snee (Boston College)
Center - Jeff Saturday (UNC)
QB - Phillip Rivers (NC State), Matt Ryan (BC)
RB - Willie Parker (UNC), Frank Gore (Miami)
FB - Madison Hedgecock (UNC)
TE - Jeremy Shockey (Miami), Kellen Winslow jr (Miami)
WR - Calvin Johnson (Ga Tech), Torry Holt (NC State), Anquan Boldin (Fla ST), Andre Johnson (Miami)
Defense
DE - Greg Ellis, Julius Peppers (both UNC)
DT - Travis Johnson (Fla St), Tim Bulman (BC)
LB - Jon Beason, D.J. Williams (both Miami), Keith Brooking (Ga Tech), and some guy called LT(UNC)
DB - Adrian Wilson (NC State), Brian Dawkins (Clemson), Antonio Cromartie(Fla St), Ed Reed (Miami)
Special Teams
P - Jeff Feagles (Miami)
K - Sebastian Jankowski (Fla St)
Retuner- Devin Hester (Miami)
Honorable mention for ETVal, Frank Reich,QB, Maryland. He's only responsible for one of if not the greatest college (Maryland Vs Miami) and NFL playoff (Houston Vs Buffalo) comebacks.
While the ACC doesn't get the props of the Pac 10 , SEC or Big 12, this list shows that there are some players that come out of that conference.
Catch for Catch, Hicks vs Crabtree
There seems to be a lot of doubts about taking Hicks with the 29th pick. My question is why? Seems like Crabtree was on everyone's (except Al Davis') wishlist. The highlight reel makes Crabtree look like the greatest thing since sliced cheese. I looked at some numbers and found this.
Crabtree had a monster 2007. 134 recs, 1962yds, 14.6 avg, 22tds. Last year, 97 recs, 1165yds, 12 avg, 19td.
Hicks in 07 had 74 recs, 958yds, 16.9avg, 4 tds. Last year he had 68 catches, 1222 yards, 18.0avg and 12 tds.
If Hicks had caught the same amount of balls that Crabtree caught, his numbers would kill Crabtree. Look at Hicks' last year and Crabtree's first year, if you give Hick those 134 catches, with that monster 18 yd avg, Nicks kills him by almost 500 yards.
Last year biggest games statwise for Crabtree-Nevada, 7 rec, 158 yds, 22.6 avg, 1td. Against SMU, 8 recs, 164 yds, 20.5 avg and 3 tds. Did not show up in the bowl game. 4 recs, 30 yds, 7.5avg and a td.
Biggest game stats for Hicks-Notre Dame 9 recs, 141yds, 15.7avg no tds. Against BC, 8 catches, 139 yards, 17.4 avg and 3 tds. The bowl game was monster against WV 8 catches, 217yds, 27.1avg, 3tds.
Last two year average- Crabtree 231 catches, 3127 yds, 13.5 avg and 41 tds.
Nicks 142 catches, 2180 yds, 15.4avg and 16 tds. Seems to me that Hicks does a little more with less. We should be able to live with this guy.
Texas Tech and UNC run two totally different offenses. For what we do and how we do it, Hicks was an excellent pick.
Madden Retiring
I haven't check yet, but I just received a phone call and a friend told me that Sirius Radio has said that John Madden is going to retire. If this is true, this is a sad day in football (at least it is for me). I love hearing Madden call the games. He uses the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) approach and makes it so that anyone can understand the game. With Madden gone, who will call the big games with Michaels. What a week? We lose two of the top voices in sports.
Correct me if I'm wrong
I've stated that I like both Boldin and Edwards but was leaning towards Edwards because of his ability to strech the field and his 16 yard per catch avg. I know Bolden is know for his play after the catch but I was playing with some numbers and it seems that we already have a Boldin (Steve Smith).
Last year, Smith played in 16 games, had 57 catches for 574 yards, 35 first downs and a 10.1 avg. Boldin played in less games (12) and had 89 catches for 1038 yards, 56 first downs and a 11.7 avg. Smith averages 3.5 catches per game and Boldin averages 7 catches per game. Boldin was on pace for catching 112 balls at 1300 yards. If Smith had caught that many, he'd have a little of 1100 yards.
My point, on average, Boldin caught twice the balls as Smith per game. Pound for pound, Smith's and Boldin's stats are very comparable. I go with Edwards.
Gmen get first crack
The new schedule for 2009 was released tonight. I haven't seen the full schedule yet, but I do know we get the first crack at beating the the Cowgirls in their new house on week 2. It's a Sunday night game so tell the boss you'll be in a little later on Monday morning. This one must be watched from beginning to end. It will be so sweet to give Dallas a loss in prime time in their brand new billion dollar house.
