The Phinsider Never thought who I would see at top of the stats...

I checked this Sunday morning to see where our players rank, and I see Chad Henne at the top of the QB category!?!  What strange twilight zone was I in?   I thought to myself, "is this a dream."

http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=0&statisticCategory=PASSING&conference=null&season=2011&seasonType=PRE&d-447263-s=PASSING_YARDS&d-447263-o=2&d-447263-n=1

In fact, for the preseason up to week 3 he is:

#1 in yards

#6 in comp. %,

#1 in yds per comp

#4 with the longest pass

T#2 with most passes over 20yds

#1 with most passes over 40yds

#5 with QB rating.

Now for the disclaimers...  I am not a Chad Henne fan, this is just the preseason where no one goes all out, many times he went up against 2nd teamers, and defenses are vanilla and typically don't game plan or blitz like they do in the regular season.

But in thinking about it now, this couldn't be better considering the following; our o-line can't block a door, new O-coordinator, new playbook, no OTA's.

I don't think this will necessary translate into success in the regular season, but in past years, I haven't seen anything close to this.  In fact, this is the complete opposite that I thought I would see.  I have a very skeptical eye to any thing that happens in the preseason, but this can't be bad.  Other QBs are playing against the same competition, and they haven't done as well.  I just hope Henne lands in the 10-20 range as far as QBs go and I think we will have a shot at the playoffs and 9 to 10 wins.

I have seen more excitement in this preseason than I felt in the past 2 years.  I just hope they can do a fraction of what I have seen so far in the preseason games, and we might have a chance of a winning season.

The Phinsider For all you who want Cowher...

Why do you think Cowher wants to come to Miami?

It is because we have an offense that is turn key so that a defensive minded coach can come in and build a defense? It makes more sense for him to go to NY or Houston where the offensive pieces are in place.  Both would be a challenge because they are 4-3, but would they allow him to remake their defense?  I would think so.  You think of defense you think of the chin.

Or... is it because we have a great QB and running game?  Last I checked, we are ready to bring out the pitchforks and storm the locker room for Henning and our O.  Hmm... If I was thinking about job security, who would I want under center?  Manning, Schaub, or Henne or a rook.  That does not seem like a team that a defensive minded coach would want to go to.

Or... is it because there is defensive makeover that needs to happen in south Florida?  I think we all agree the defense is making strides.  Good young group.   Let's change that part of our team.

Or... do we have a rich owner that might drive up the price of his services, only to say "see ya, wouldn't want to be ya" like Saban.

Just like I said on a previous post,

"Fire Henning, draft a 1 round QB, bring a veteran to compete with Henne next year. That sounds like a much more likely scenario."   Look I am mad, but also realistic.  Out of these head coaches, Johnson, Wannstedt, Bates, Saban, Cameron, I would take Sparano.  Give Sparano 1 or 2 years to at least make the playoffs, win the division again, or win 10 games. If he doesn't lets move on.

I understand we want him to come here, but Cowher is going to use us.  Read between the lines.  Why do you think we are included so early?  I think it is because we have an owner that has deep pockets that will drive up demand for Cowher.  If we do get him, all I know is that we would be calling for his head too because that is what we do best.  Just look at all the posts today.

Oh, by the way, check this out.  I think we need to give Sparano a little more time.

The Phinsider Brady out for year with torn ACL

Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports reports that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady  is expected to miss the rest of the 2008 season with a severe knee injury.

The injury is widely believed to be a torn ACL.  Silver says that there could be other ligament and cartilage damage.

“It’s bad,” a team source told Silver.  “We’re going to have to play without him.”

The starter will be Matt Cassel.  Unless the Pats bring back Vinny Testaverde.  Or Doug Flutie.  Or Steve Grogan.

UPDATE:  Silver’s report has been updated — the ACL tear is confirmed

The Phinsider Sparano is my type of coach

Here is good video of Sparano wired up, barking at the troops.  What a departure from last year.  No more good work or growing.  Just good old fashioned football like the way it used to be played.  Don't you all just get the feeling that we have a chance in every game we play.  I don't expect miracles, but I have hope we are going to be in games this year in the 4th quarter.
