It's common knowledge (or atleast I would like to think so) that water helps you maintain a healthy weight. But is cold water or hot water better for you?

I used to be of the opinion that cold water was better for you because it makes your metabolism work harder to "warm up the water" to aid in the digestion.

But a recent trip leaves me thinking that I have been mislead. Hear me out on this.

On Monday I went down to San Francisco to watch the Angels play the Giants. Before the game the wife and kid and I went down to Fishermans Wharf for some shopping and to kill some time before the game.

About 2hrs before the game was to start we got in a cab and headed to the stadium. Our driver was an elderly Chinese man. I told him where we were going and that we didnt want to walk because it was gonna be a long walk and plus we had been walking around Pier 39 for the past 2-2.5 hrs.

The driver then proceeds to tell me how he used to be a big guy like me and that he used to hate walking too. He goes on and on about how he was 275 lb (and he looked about half that size when I saw him) He said he used to have alot of problems with his heart, kidneys, liver etc.........all related to his obesity.

He said it all changed for him when he met up with a local Chinese doctor. The doctor told him about switching to hot water for his drink instead of cold water.

Needless to say I was like.....uh okay....who wants to drink "HOT" Water?

Then the Cabbie told me about this analogy that makes PERFECT sense on why he was able to shed 100 lbs drinking 4 cups of hot water per day.

He asked me a question: "When you wash your dishes after you cook your meal, do you use hot or cold water?"

I of course said "Hot water"

He asked me why.

I said "Well because the cold water doesnt get the dishes as clean and the hot water helps break up the grease, crusted food etc"

He said "Exactly.........and its no different than with you body"

Supposedly the cabbie said it helps move along food through your digestive tract faster and helps keep his bathroom trips pretty regular and free flowing (if you get my drift)

He also told me that he was 65 years old......but by looking at him I woulda said like 50-55........he claims the hot water helps keep his skin moist and younger looking.

He went on to tell me about how all the junk he used to eat........hamburgers, hot dogs, donuts etc. He said all that junk, grease, fat etc that was in his stomach never left when he drank the cold water. So now he drinks hot water (32 oz a day) to help him break up all that extra fat he had...........plus he started eating salads and fish..........he said he would eat one porkchop a week, and one steak a week and that was it..........

After I started thinking about it.............the dish washing analogy makes perfect sense to me. Needless to say I have started drinking 20 oz of hot water (not so hot that it burns your tongue.....about the temp of a cup of coffee works) first thing in the morning, and 20 oz of hot water right before bed. It also works as a decent appetitte suppressant because I've found Im not as hungry during the day so far (granted its only been 2 days)

He said he lost a 100 lbs in one year drinking hot water...........his exercise consisted of 30 min walks everyday for 6 months...........the 45 min walks for the next 6 months, and now he said he walks for 60 min.....and thats it....

I am curious if anyone else knows anything about this........I thought it was fascinating and Im looking to add this 30-40 oz of hot water a day to my daily routine just to see how it works............

Observations from AT&T 15 Jun 09

So yesterday I got a chance to see my first ever Angel game (live) and suffice to say it didn't disappoint. The Missus and Baby NorCali joined me on a lil' family get away so to speak. So I thought I would share with you all some of my observations and some pics.

We got to the park about 5:30ish... enough time to see the end of Giants BP and the start of the Halos.

Mike Napoli put on a clinic. He was hitting the ball further and harder than anyone on the team. He put about 10 balls into the stands. Many of which were by me in the left field bleachers.

Jered Weaver is a class act. He gave many of the flies he shagged to other Angel fans out in the Left Field area and even took the time to sign a few in between AB's

Matt Palmer was also doing the same. Funny Palmer story - These kids (Giants fans) were heckling Palmer and naming off all his stats on the year, his place of birth, different minor league clubs he was with......going on and on. Palmer just laughed it all off, but it seem to bother the other pitcher with him ( I wanna say it was Thompson, but I don't know for sure.....didn't really recognize him) The other pitcher seemed to be asking for better heckles or something....I was kinda far away from where it was happening.

Here are some of the BP shots I got from my seats:

 via img34.imageshack.us

via img518.imageshack.us

via img41.imageshack.us

The game itself was crazy (as most of you know). Couple of things I noticed from my seats:

Rivera's home run was definitely aided by the wind blowing out.......That sucker kept carrying and carrying.

Aybar's homerun was a line drive shot. (Both Rivera's home run and Aybar's homerun were about 20 feet to the right of where I was sitting.) I could see me sitting in the middle of all the Giants fans in a Bright Red Angels hoodie when I watched the replays on Sportscenter.

When Torii smacked into the wall it sounded like a car wreck.....no joke.....he hit that sucker hard and everyone in the crowd was went "oooOOOhhhhh" and then cheered like crazy because Bengie somehow managed to lumber into 2nd Base for a double.

Lackey's RBI basehit was a thing of beauty....he worked the count and everything, I was totally amazed.

Juan Rivera was getting some of the worst heckling I've ever heard from guys out in the bleachers. Some of the lines were lame.... the worst one was something about him taking Derek Jeter's glove when he was with the Yankees and trying to sell it on EBAY. Those fans were quiet by the time Rivera had smacked his homer and then his double. Juan hit the ball really really hard last night. He woulda been my choice for Panther, but he wasn't on the voting list.

via img41.imageshack.us

via img41.imageshack.us

Glad I got to see Vlad at least pinch hit in the game. I was kinda bummed when I didn't see him in the starting lineup. He smoked that line drive single too......

via img34.imageshack.us

Lack was amazing on the hill. I started to notice him running out of gas in the 6th.... and I was honestly surprised to see him come out for the 7th. I guess we know why though, because once the blowpen came in the Giants started their comeback. That Sandoval kid is a pretty good hitter for the Giants......and some of the young guys did pretty good too. I heard many fans in my area asking "who are these kids" which I thought was pretty funny, they didnt even know most of their own guys.

All and all the Giants fans were pretty cool, at least the ones I talked too.

One other random sighting note, and I'm wondering if anyone else can help me with this. But I swear I thought I saw the actor Willie Aimes (The guy who played Buddy - from Charles in Charge) walking up the steps in the section where my seats were. Many of the Giants fans were cheering and stuff when he showed up, but I just wasn't sure. Maybe Sam Miller knows something about this (if he reads this) This guy though was a dead ringer for the man.....lol my first run in with a I'm guessing D or E list celebrity.

AT&T is a great park, and I would recommend it to anyone that is in the area. Nice seat prices, but kinda cold... and I'm glad the first Angels game I ever saw was a win... I was almost disappointed by the bullpen once again, but alas the Halos pulled it out... the only thing that was truly missing was the sight of the Halo lit up after the win. But this scoreboard pic works as a good substitute.

via img34.imageshack.us

So I figured we could have a lil fun on here......I stole this idea from a Halos Heaven poster.

Pretty much all you gotta do is go the NFL Shop and select a custmonized jersey and create a fun little name (inside jokes are so much more fun) As you can see I took KO for my first one...as the example.

I know there are tons of creative guys around here so lets see what kinda pre draft fun we can have.

Incase you havent caught it before......FUN is the word of the day :)

So being a Northern California native I dont get the chance to go to many stores that sell Bills stuff.

Today I happened upon a sports memorabilia store. They had sports cards seperated by teams for all sports. So I took a look at the Bills and Angels cards. (The lady looked at me like I was crazy for asking for the Bills cards......ha)

I found some interesting stuff

I found two Thurman Thomas rookie cards (SCORE brand) in solid cases going for 4 bucks......and I bought one because Thurman is my all time fav Bill.

Found a Trent Edwards rookie card (BOWMAN brand) for a 1.50 and since Trent is my current favorite Bill I thought, heck what a deal.

Couldnt find any Bruce Smith cards.........

But also interesting of note.

Found about 40 cards of JP Losman some as high as 10 bucks!!!!!!!!! and many over 5! and I had to laugh out loud......

Found a Mike Williams card for 5 bucks

and most shocking I found a card of Kwame Cavil for 7 bucks!!!!!!

You may be asking who the heck is Kwame Cavil ( I know I did) which is why I came home and googled him.........Guess he was drafted by the Bills in 2000 played in all 16 games and had 4 catches for 66 yards and no TD's..........I dont ever remember him suiting up at all.....but I admit I didnt always follow the team as closely as I do now (Having the internet and blogs help.......didnt have that when I was 17......plus I was more interested in picking up some skirt anyways)

Anyways I thought it was nuts that I could get a player who is in the Hall of Fame (not to mention a rookie card) for 4 bucks.........but in the same stack I could find the biggest number 1 bust in Bills History and some Scrub WR who hasnt played in the NFL since 2000 and the CFL since 2006..........for more money....just crazy.

Wondering if anyone else out there has had similar experiences.

Hadnt seen this mentioned yet on site. It's kinda a big deal I think. I know everyone is all about talking draft and everything which is all well and good. However when one of our AFC EAST sisters makes a move like this kinda affects us too.

I am wondering what everyone thinks of Ryan becoming the new head coach?

I actually dont think its thats good of a signing by the JETS I have a feeling Rex will turn out to be like his Dad.......great as a coordinator, not so great as a head man. Which works out great for the Bills.

What say you?

What to Expect from New CSU HC Steve Fairchild...(From a Buffalo Bills' Fan)

I had made a comment in a pregame thread and one of the editors of the site asked me if I wouldn't mind throwing up a quick fanpost of what to expect from Steve Fairchild (The former OC of the Bills and newest HC of the CSU Rams).

Well considering how much disdain I have for the man from his two years in Buffalo, I am happy to oblige.

Now I can't promise I will be a 100% correct, because people can change, but based on the talent level he has at CSU, and that he had with the Bills...I am fairly certain you can expect the follow things from Steve Fairchild.

He will try to "ball control" a team using a lot of "dives" and screen plays. He is the most predictable play caller I've ever seen. Things were so bad last year that Rich Gannon (who was broadcasting a game) was able to "call out" the plays before they were even run.

Fairchild is from the Mike Martz coaching tree. So he believes in trying to create space for his players, however he tends to send multiple WR in the same general area, which makes it easy to defend against his offense.

He also doesn't believe in "audibling" so once the play call goes to the QB there is a slim to none chance the QB will check off to something else.

Look for a a lot of dump passes (especially) in 3rd and long situations, which I assume the Rams will be in a lot.

If by some chance Fairchild and Co. have a short yardage situation you can believe he will bring in 2TE and go with a jumbo package and try to get that yardage by going power for power...and usually that play gets stuffed by the bigger defensive line.

He rarely tries to trick the offense...and when he does try a trick play it will be something along the lines of a WR reverse on 3rd and 10 when the defense is playing a zone, thereby eliminating any chance to deceive a defense.

Either way, I know it will take a year or two for Fairchild to get his guys but even then I highly doubt the Buffs' defense will have a problem with an offensive "guru" ( I use that term loosely) like Fairchild...I would much rather have a guy like Dan Hawkins leading my team...be thankful for that.

Good Luck Buffs...beat the tar outta that clown!
