Weeks out for season

Alcides Escobar will start seeing some time at 2b in Nashville, but won't be called up right away. For now, Craig Counsel moves to 2b, which means more possible playing time for Mat Gamel at 3rd.

RIP Danny Ozark

Danny Ozark, the former Phillies manager who nurtured a young team into a perennial contender in the National League, died Wednesday in Vero Beach, Fla. He was 85. His career ended with the Giants as a coach (1983-84) and interim manager in '84.

Neal cycles in San Jose rout

The Giants' 37th-round pick in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft began his big performance with a leadoff homer, his fourth of the year, in the second. He walked and scored in the third, ripped his first triple of the season in the fourth, flied out in the sixth and singled in the seventh before coming through with his fifth double to spark a three-run ninth.

Lincecum signs $650k contract

The Giants and Tim Lincecum have reached agreement on a one-year, $650,000 contract, a source told The Chronicle. Lincecum then confirmed the figure. That constitutes a 62 percent raise over the $405,000 he earned last year. There is actually a split component to the deal. If Lincecum somehow wound up in the minors, he'd be paid at an annual rate of $243,000.

Giants move to San Jose! (For one night)

Way back when, they used to barnstorm like this. But it was back before anyone around here can remember. Then the Giants built their palace, and FanFest became a big annual event limited to AT&T Park. Now it's branching out. From 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, more than two dozen players, coaches and others — big names like Tim Lincecum, Barry Zito and Mike Krukow — will hold court at the Britannia Arms in downtown San Jose. They'll sign autographs and celebrity bar tend, and then they'll head over to the Sharks-Hurricanes game, where Lincecum will drop the first puck.

Steve Decker Named Defenders 2009 Skipper

Decker going to AA may mean that's where Buster is headed. Grimsley going there, too also likely means that Mad Bum is going to Connecticut and skipping San Jose.
