Bleeding Green Nation I know I know but what about this guy

Before I get crucified anyone have any interest in Mike Jenkins... a couple of years ago he was VERY good for the Cowboys but then has fallen off the wagon a bit I actually believe DJAX had a lot to do with exposing him ha. I know we are all excited about hanson and boykin battling for the slot. But is anyone really excited about Boykin at his size and Hanson having to fill in if god forbid Nnamdi or DRC goes down. I would absolutely be interested in Jenkins if someone can clarify if he is the type of corner that could possibly play in the slot when needed. (Yes I get this is very similar to DRC last season).

Just always trying to add depth and this could be an opportunity or it could not just trying to gauge opinion.

Bleeding Green Nation DJ WILLIAMS

I have been on Bleacher Report all day and how has this not been talked about...

Dj_crop_650

The update is that now it is up to a 2nd round pick for DJ Williams... do we not have 2 2nd round picks thanks to the Kolb trade? I would do this in a heartbeat.

This may be why we did not pull a trigger on Curry or anything else... or this is as reliable as John Clayton's famous "Jeremiah Trotter will be by the end of the day signing with Kansas City"

Testudo Times ESPN article with shortest reference to UMD as possible

So we all know about the hoopla the Pride jerseys made after the Miami game thoughout the nation. Well ESPN released an article about the rules to wearing a jersey if you are a fan and Rule Number 8 directly points to the University of Maryland:

Jersey Rule No. 8: Absolutely no cutesy wrong-color jerseys. No pink Yankees jerseys. No camouflage Cowboys jerseys. And no new University of Maryland jerseys. They look like an explosion at a Benjamin Moore store.

Bleeding Green Nation What about this little change to the wide-9 and Nnamdi's role

Okay so we have two major major problems on defense... the LB corps and the safeties

Any thoughts on this (1)

                 RB

                  FB

                 QB

X         X X X X X TE         X

AS      JB   CJ  AD TC       DRC

            AJ   JC   MF

             JP       NA

Here we have Asante Samuel and DRC playing their respective sides of the field. This allows us to put Nnamdi at safety to cover the TEs, yes I know best CB on the team and arguably in the league, but he did play safety in college where he gained national recognition. So lets say he locks up the TE, now our other problem is against the run... if in a basic 2 WR set this allows us to bring Page up into the box (if Juan will ever allow 8 in the box). We also have Antonio Dixon in there to add some more beef to the line. I placed Akeem Jordan in at the WIL because if anyone noticed he got his one play after Fokou got hurt, came in and made the tackle for a two yard gain on Bradshaw, then was taken off again. Jordan isn't anything special... I know... but he is more reliable than Clay Matthews at the WIL and do we really know much about Brian Rolle... honestly I much rather have Omar Gaither, Bradley, Chaney but that is not going to happen...

If they come out with 3 WR look and we match it with (2)

                         RB

                         QB

X    X        X  X  X  X  X TE          X

AS   JH    JB    CJ   MP  TC      DRC

                       JC    MF

                         JP       NA

Here we have Hanson in the slot where he is dependable and very comfortable... Fokou (or Brian Rolle)  in to cover the TE but with help over the top from Nnamdi who gets shaded to the side of the TE. Now in this formation you have one WR on the strong side which would be good because say the TE goes on a short out you now have Nnamdi with the ability to help DRC over the top or if he the TE makes a middle cross or say a post you have a a LB to cover and safety help from Page over the top. On the far side of the field is where we may have a problem with Asante jumping a route and getting beat on a double move but Asante plays off so I am willing to live with that risk.

If the play is called that the TE stays in to block and the RB goes out now you have the perfect set up for this defense because you either have DRC and Nnamdi doubling on the strong side WR with the LB picking up the RB but still having help from Page or you now have DRC stay in on the flat for the RB and Nnamdi pick up the WR... if they run a quick slant DRC rides him for a bit and lets him go thus maintaining the ability to play the RB... now the problem is on the other side of the field again... Asante made a great play to up end Jacobs one on one but we know that this is not a normal occurance from my main man... if they run it weakside or have the RB in the flat then Chaney needs to read that quickly...

If the TE goes in motion to the otherside you motion Nnamdi to the other side and Page flips to his spot... Now you have Asante Samuel, Hanson in the slot, and Nnamdi Asomugha on one side of the field... ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO THROW TO THAT SIDE... that leaves DRC on an island so as the TE motions over you have DRC give a cushion and bring page up a couple of yards to support weakside rush, RB flat or help DRC on the slant now that he has given a cushion...

Base in Running situations (3)

                      RB

                      FB

                      QB

X           X  X  X  X  X TE           X

DRC   JB CJ  AD   MP  TC   NA

                 AJ  JC  MF

                      JP/NA

Ok so here we have 5 down lineman look and still maintain 3 LBs giving us 8 in the box...we now move NA up to CB and DRC to Asante's side in known running situations or in two TE packages... if say they flex out the TE or audible to a RB in the slot you now have them where you want them because you still get the Wide-9 rush but you can now stuff the middle with 3 interior DL or even push say Mike Patterson to take on the LT or Jenkens on the other side (only 1 though or you have flood gates) and you open up the rush from either end

Disclaimer... I know it is not this easy and I am not a coach but out of these I still believe you can bring up Page to play 7 (3 WR set) and 8 (2 WR) men in the box to support against the run.

What do you think?

Bleeding Green Nation First ten cuts

T-S. Johnson

WR-Terrence Turner- With the addition of Steve Smith, once less WR stays around through the first cuts
DB- Jamar Adams- Think they will let Marsh, Lindley, Hughes battle it out in the last preseason game
DT- Marlon Favorite- Mike Patterson back, Landri playing so well, Thornton making some noise, Dixon getting healthy... no need for camp DT's anymore
DE- Chris Wilson- Phillip Hunt forcing his own hand to stay around a little longer at a crowded position, Wilson gone
TE- Martell Webb- No chance
RB- Derek Locke- Crowded position will be a PS for someone
C- A.Q. Shipley- clearly the battle is between Kelce and Jackson
TE- Cornelius Ingram- sad to see him be cut... think he will be a good player for someone if healthy but Lee is our third
LB- Brandon Pequese- going young at the LB position doesn't help Pequese at all

What you think....

Then down to 53

Testudo Times Cam Chism getting some love?

So all last season we watched Cam Chism get burned and beaten up and down the field. It seemed like every post game wrap up on these boards had praise for Trenton Hughes and disgust for the poor play of Cam Chism...

How does Heather Dinich get away with saying he had a break out year last year?

When Navy actually throws the ball on you in the opening game of the year you know there is something wrong from the start.

Maybe the disappointment was more because of just how well Cam played down the stretch in 2009... one of the few bright spots of that team was Chism.

Testudo Times Can someone explain why we haven't covered the slot guy

in 4 years... the slot guy has killed our offense down the middle of the field for the last four years... i am so tired of watching Wujiack matched up in coverage... if a team wanted to they could throw the slot screen every single play i do not get it

Testudo Times Sports Nation- Yoga

So it is well documented (Terrapins Rising) that the terps football team does Yoga to improve flexibility and movement for the offensive and defensive lines. Today on ESPN's horrible show Sports Nation... 59 Percent of the voters said that more teams should implement this into their training... WAD UP TERPS!.

Testudo Times Will Barton and Tsafack Inelligible

ESPN reporting that former Terp targets Will Barton and Hippolyte Tsafack are academically inelligible. If they are inelligible does this mean they would go to Prep school for a year and possibly re-open their recruitment after a year? Antonio Barton is also stuggling with academics as well. If they can not pass for Memphis there is no way they would have been elligible here.

Testudo Times Caleb Porzell kicked off the team?

I knew Porzell was not in the spring practice due to academic issues but rumor on campus is that the young running back was kicked off the team after being caught using marijuana. Can anyone confirm or deny this... Lets all hope that this is just a rumor and nothing more because Porzell has a BRIGHT future in our backfield. asdasd dasdasd dasdas dadsasd  asdas  asdad asd asd asd asd ad asdasdasda asd asda adasdada asd asd ada

Testudo Times Maryland sports in the BCS Era- Yahoo

Yahoo ranked Maryland 11th in the most successful athletics programs when combining football and basketball since the introduction of the BCS

Per Rivals.com

Points: 6.5 football, 24 basketball, 30.5 total
The buzz: Maryland's No. 10 finish in the 2001 coaches' poll and No. 13 ranking in 2002 helped give the Terps enough points to qualify for this list. Maryland won the 2002 national basketball title and also made the Final Four in '01.

Testudo Times Terrapins Rising

Does anyone know any update about if Terrapins Rising is going to be on air this summer. I think it would be a great year to have Terrapins Rising this year because they can follow JMar again and then talk about the emergence of Torrey Smith.

Testudo Times Sad Sad Story

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=5193746

Texas AM recruit Tobi Oyedeji died in a post prom car crash. Man it is crazy how stuff can change in a young person's life so fast

Tobi Oyedeji dropped his last friend off after prom night, called his father Mike and told him he was on his way home early Sunday morning.

The 18-year-old power forward from Bellaire High in Bellaire, Texas, who at 6-foot-9 and 220 pounds was destined to be an impact player for Texas A&M in the fall and committed to studying engineering -- never made it to his house.

Testudo Times Nick Faust- ESPN Headliner

Per ESPN's Recruiting Homepage

Surprise player

Nick Faust (Baltimore/City)
2011, SG, 6-6, 175
Team Baltimore Elite

Faust is a long and athletic wing who possesses excellent skills. He has the ability to play all three perimeter positions and defend them as well. Faust can make scoring plays off the dribble with his length and touch. He knocks down midrange jumpers and finger-rolls over smaller defenders in the lane. He is streaky from behind the arc but is good enough to put the defense on alert.

Faust can handle the ball, set the offense and make pretty good basketball decisions. He is versatile enough that he can find a matchup to take advantage of in every game. He also has a good basketball IQ and is a good rebounder. Faust competes and plays with good energy. He must add strength and continue to work on his jumper, but his versatility and ability to score in a variety of ways give him an opportunity to be special with continued hard work.

Testudo Times Bye Bye Dieng

as per ESPN's recruiting page... Dieng to Louisville

According to multiple sources, center Gorgui Sy Dieng gave Louisville a verbal commitment for the 2010 class on Monday.

Kofane just returned from a weekend trip to Marquette when he decided on the Cardinals.

"They are good people and I liked it there," Dieng told The Louisville Courier-Journal. "It was the place that I felt like I could be happy. Coach (Rick Pitino) can help me get to the next level."

Any Eric McKnight news?

Testudo Times Did anyone notice what Terrence Ross is going to major in?

I was reading the zagsblog article on Terrence Ross' top 5 schools. In the article he says that he wants to major in CRIMINOLOGY... then why did you decommit from the number 1 CRIM school in the country? I hope his stupidity off the court is mirrored in his game and he has to go on in life with his lesser Crim Degree than he would have gotten from here. More likely however is he would have not graduated and went to play professional ball early not caring about his un finished Crim degree.

Testudo Times Talking to Tobias

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.php?pid=30394959&id=1336860411

So last night at the game Tobias sat right in front of us and seemed to have a great time. Him and his brothers laughing at the the things the MD fans were yelling. We got them involved in the paper shaking before the game. Had a convo bout how much he liked the Len BIas movie and his dad seems like he wants him to go here.  His dad took a pic with his phone with him in my "Fear the TOBIAS 2010" shirt. I have a much better feeling that we will get Tobias after last night.
