Well, he did it for a class. Dana O'Neill posted an article on the world wide leader today about a class project where Baye Moussa Keita spent a night sleeping in a box on the quad back on April 18. Keita is a student in Jeff Pauline’s Personal and Social Responsibility class, and Prof Pauline wanted to bring awareness to the problem of homelessness. The class all spent a night on the quad, sleeping in a cardboard box - but weren't completely cut off. They were allowed to bring their cell phones with them. Keita was apprehensive about the project at first, but after a visit to a homeless mission, he became more interested.

Thanks to his 6-10 frame, he had to combine two boxes for his temporary home but even the stretched accommodations were rough. He woke up stiff and sore -- "like I was boxing somebody,’’ Keita said -- but with a newfound understanding of what the homeless have to endure.

This one kind of went unnoticed. But in an article in the Albany Times Union earlier in the week, word came out that John Cahill is retiring from refereeing to become the new Big East's supervisor of officials. One more old official leaving the court is a good thing.

Heather Dinich, over at ESPN, writes an article today where she says the ACC's bowl lineup "is likely to include the New Era Pinstripe Bowl and a return to the Gator Bowl" (The Big East's deal with the Pinstripe Bowl lasts through 2013. I'm not sure if the contract carries over to the AAC.) She says the ACC is likely to stick with the Champs Sports Bowl, Music City Bowl and Belk Bowl - noting the Belk Bowl is leaning toward an ACC - SEC Match up.

The ACC currently has 8 (or 9 with a conditional deal with the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl) bowl tie ins, and with the league expanding to 15 teams, 9 or 10 solid bowl deals are probably needed.

The conference also needs to find a replacement for the Chick-fil-A Bowl, which will join the Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar Bowls as the hosts for the new playoff structure that will begin following the 2014 college football season.

The ACC announced that the 2014 and 2015 Men's Lacrosse Championships will be at PPL Park in Philadelphia, home of the MLS' Philaelphia Union. This stadium may sound familiar to you. It was one of the places being floated as a home for Villanova Football if they were to make the jump to FCS.

PPL Park hosted the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Quarterfinals in 2012 and is the 2013 site for the USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship and the Men’s College Cup.

The 2014 ACC Championship will be the first for both Notre Dame and Syracuse, which join the league on July 1, 2013. Four teams will compete in the tournament with semifinals on Friday, April 25, and the championship on Sunday, April 27.

This part is interesting: The two teams that do not qualify for the championship will play a game against each other at PPL Park on Saturday. Does that mean a consolation game, or the 2 remaining teams that didn't get to play in the semifinals on Friday get an extra game for their season?

I was just wondering how many of us fellow Nunesians will be in attendance at Verizon Center. How Orange will that the phone booth be on Saturday. I'll be there, along with my brother. We are driving down from New York City on Friday night for a fun-filled weekend. I'm looking forward to witnessing the final chapter and hopefully getting some redemption and revenge from two weeks ago.

So who else is going? Are there any places where the Cuse fans meet up before the game? Any suggestions from veterans of a Cuse at GTown game for someone making his first trip to the lair of the enemy?

I don't know what else to write, but I have to reach the word limit so I shall finish with All Hail the Otto-man Empire! Go Cuse! What the hell is a Hoya! Let's Go Orange!

And finally, It's 3:43, and Georgetown still sucks!

2. If the ACC wants to take full advantage of adding Syracuse in 2013-14 then it should guarantee at least Duke or North Carolina once a season at the Carrier Dome. Syracuse has already announced a 35,012 crowd for Saturday's game against Georgetown. That will be the 17th time the Orange have had 30,000-plus for a Georgetown game, the most of any other opponent. Syracuse is losing Georgetown as a conference opponent after this season. Three of the top eight 30,000-plus crowds at the Carrier Dome are eventually going with Syracuse to the ACC in Pitt (7), Notre Dame (6) and Louisville (4). The 35,012 fans coming for Saturday's game against Georgetown is yet another reminder of the Big East breaking up and what the Northeast college basketball fan will be missing.

4.
Key Departures: QB Ryan Nassib, WR Marcus Sales, WR Alec Lemon, LT Justin Pugh, LG Zack Chibane, DE Brandon Sharpe, DT Deon Goggins, LB Siriki Diabate, LB Dan Vaughan, SS Shamarko Thomas

Head coach Doug Marrone departed for the NFL, but there’s no question he left Syracuse in much better shape than he found it in 2009. New coach Scott Shafer was a popular hire among the players but has no previous head coaching experience and must replace offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Quarterback Ryan Nassib finished his eligibility after the Pinstripe Bowl, leaving Charley Loeb and Terrel Hunt to battle for the job. Neither player has a start under their belt and has combined to throw just six passes in their career. In addition to finding a new quarterback, Syracuse needs to rebuild the offensive line and replace Alec Lemon and Marcus Sales at receiver. The Orange suffered some key losses on defense, headlined by end Brandon Sharpe, safety Shamarko Thomas and linebacker Siriki Diabate.

His guess for the top 3 in our division are Florida St, Clemson and Maryland.

Big East asked for what?

Dennis Dodd over at CBS Sports posted an article 2 days ago about the Big East's TV Negotiations. Now, I know we are leaving, but the absurdity of it was worth posting here so all of us Nunesers can have a good ol' laugh. When the Big East began it's negotiations over the conference's new TV deal with ESPN, the conference initially asked for ... .wait for it ..... 300 MILLION DOLLARS per year! Yes, 300 million dollars for a conference that had already lost a whole bunch of members like Syracuse and Pitt and was replacing them with schools such as Central Florida and Houston.

It would have been the largest deal in the nation, surpassing the Pac 12's contract with ESPN and Fox, which is believed to be around $250 million per year. In December, CBS reported that the rights were only worth 60 - 80 million dollars a year. Needless to say, this rediculous offer posed by the Big East was laughed at by ESPN, and the exclusive window closed leaving the Big East with no TV deal as of this writing.

I was checking out SUAthletics.com today sitting at home while bored. I noticed something, that has not been changed yet. Everyone knows that we are now leaving the Big East Conference for the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013. But apparently SUAthleitcs.com did not get the memo. If you go to their webpage that lists the future opponents, you see this on the page for our opponents for 2012 and 2013:

2012 (alphabetical order, non-conference listed first)
at Minnesota
vs. Northwestern
vs. Southern California (at MetLife Stadium)
at Cincinnati
vs. Connecticut
vs. Louisville
vs. Pittsburgh
at Rutgers
at South Florida
at West Virginia

There are a few things wrong with this right off the bat. 1) West Virginia is not even in the Big East this year, let alone next year. 2) Temple is now in the Big East, and they are not on the list. And, most importantly, 3) We are not in the Big East next year, and the SUAthletics.com page list 7 of our opponents being Big East schools.

Someone at the Athletic Department has seriously dropped the ball on this, especially considering that my first 2 points have been known for months now.

Well, it looks like a Georgetown alum has decided to take to Deadspin to help create his team's name. Exerpts and link below the jump.

Deadspin article

In it, Georgetown alum "John," if that's his real name, is looking for "Clever and Offensive" team names. He mentions a few he has thought of, and let's just say, they aren't too clever, and at this point, I don't think we would find them too offensive:

'Cuse is Doing (Laurie) Fine

Bernie Fine Reaches Playing 1-on-1

Fine with the Statute of Limitations

2-for-1 Special at the Fine House

Laurie Fine Juices 'Cuse

He even offers up this non-Cuse related, but universally offensive "Rodney King's Pool Cleaners"

So, I say to you fellow Nunesians, I'm sure we could come up with better offensive team names, right?
