BURGER TOUR - Stop #5 Next Thursday?!?

EDIT: It turns out that I have an unavoidable, last minute scheduling conflict. Anyone opposed to postponing the Burger Night and making it this Thursday???

The Burger Hounds are taking the tour to the people and letting their voices be heard. From this point forward we will post a biweekly poll with 4-5 establishments and the one with the most votes wins. RR'ers, its up to you! Jch would be much obliged if you would vote for whichever establishment serves draft beer.

I believe the consensus has the stops ranked as:

92 - Terry's Turf Club

86 - Zip's

83 - Bard's Burgers

77 - 915

I was in dissent, ranking Zip's 4th actually. This upsets Ash to no end and its probably the only reason im mentioning it again. Honk! So far there really hasnt been a clunker on the tour. I've heard a lot about Five Guys but i must be honest and state, for the record, it looks likes its going to be Johnny Rockets-ish. Has anyone out there in RR Land ate there? Feedback? I know the other places on the poll but im open to any comments and future suggestions for places to visit, of course.

SIS - Worst movie ever and what would it take to get Holliday?

This SIS is a two headed beast. That's how we roll on Reds' off days.

1) Whats the worst movie you ever paid to see at the theatre or rented? Horrible movies on cable do NOT count seeing as how there must be some form of financial investement to be considered. I dont recall ever walking out on a film at the cinema. I've certainly gotten tired of rented movies, however, and popped them out of the player before the film ended. The last I recall is that aircraft controller movie with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton.

2) If the Reds had Matt Holliday and you had to trade him for only Reds minor league prospects....whom would you want in order to trade MH? Billy Beane is an intelligent man with plenty of bravado. Matt Holliday will not come cheap and i'd say the bidding begins at 3 premium prospects, possibly 4.

SIS - Best Living Ballplayer and the New King of Pop

Two questions: Who is the best living ballplayer? Who, now, is the reigning King of Pop?

The best living ballplayer usually comes down to just a couple men but i wonder if there arent a few dark horse candidates to consider(none named Rosales, I might add). I'd be interested to get nominations from RR Nation.

The new King of Pop is much more cloudy. Pop singers used to have long careers and enjoy household name status but it seems that the shelf life of today's entertainers is remarkably short. Shortly after Elvis died MJ released "Off the Wall" and "Thriller" and redefined the concept of a worldwide entertainer. i think that Prince has an amazing portfolio of songs written and recorded but I dont see him as the the biggest thing going currently. Who do you think that title should be bestowed upon?

RR BURGER TOUR - ZIP'S Wed 6/24

The Burger Train is once again getting ready to depart the terminal. This week the stop will be Cincinnati's venerable burger legend Zip's. There are many folks who swear that Zip's has the best burger in town and I sure didnt know that the restaurant partnered with Bleh-Avril and Sons. It's been a while since I've been there and I'm interested to determine where this local legend ranks vs some of the other places we've already been. Im pretty sure that jch will volunteer to take down The Train Wreck(seeing as how he's our resident food mauler)

SIS - Father's Day Edition

One of my favorite websites has compiled and ranked the worst 15 fathers in sports. here

I could go into very much detail on the odds my own father overcame to provide a good life for his family but this probably isnt the time or the place. He had to work incredibly long and hard hours back in the day but i always knew the motivation behind that. I'd say one of my favorite memories was the pregame ritual of packing a bag of sandwiches and snacks and making a big jug of iced tea to take to Riverfront. It kept the food cost down and allowed for more money to be spent on souvenirs.

He didnt, and doesnt to this day, much care for sports but he always found a way to get down to the stadium with me a couple times a summer. There was nothing funner as a young boy that seeing the Reds and yelling CHAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGE at the top of my lungs.

SIS - Best sequels

I havent put one of these up for a while but Im getting tired of banging the same drum beat for the Reds and their lack of offense. I need a bit of a tension breaker. I noticed in USA Today a little piece on Sequels that wound up being better than the original film. I remember seeing The Empire Strikes Back and not being impressed with it immediately afterwards (hey, i was like 10) but now its easy to judge it superior to the original Star Wars, imho. I have a few others that I could make cases for but im going to leave the heavy lifting to RR Nation.

What say you, which other sequels are better?

I'm going to have to nominate The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter ESPECIALLY considering it was paired with the supremely underrated Bugs Bunny short "Box Office Bunny".

Burger Visit #3 - BARDZILLA

Date: Thursday June 11th

Location: Bard's Burgers, Latonia KY

The first thing i have to disclose is that Bard's is a client of mine and I might be slightly biased. It is probably the most cost efficient burger of the local legends, with the possible exception of Quatman's or Herb & Thelma's. Bard's is also known for their poutine (google it), fried hot dogs and fried twinkies. Oh, and there fries are carbon copies of the fresh cut Penn Station (CHAIN ALERT!) fries that make a certain female RR'er all giggity.

Jch is going for the 10 burger Bardzilla challenge. Bard's owner says 7 out of 100 people have successfully completed this challenge. I'm putting our boy's odds at a staggering 50/50. There is a scheduled Reds game and we will pop down the block to a locally watering hole afterwards to hoist a few drafts and possibly shoot some stick.

Cubs + Ash and the Cubs SUCK!

Get ready for CubsFan to infest our city this weekend gang. Im wagering one hundred dollars that the memorabilia salesdude at the base of Main St will be selling those geeky, offensive Cubs W flags again. If anyone is going to any of the games this weekend please remember to bring a canned food item...that gets you two free tickets to a Reds vs Braves game later this month. Im thinking that might be a date where jch displays his Failcouer shirt to RR Nation.

Also, downtown should be packed Friday evening since there is also a Keith Urban concert at US Bank Arena at 7pm. Prepare to get to the ballpark early. I, of course, am unable to follow my own advice as I will be arriving late to celebrate the birth of Ashness...thanks to work commitments.

Who else is gonna buy our bday girl a beer?

Some of you know that it is expected that you take a pal out for a night on the town post relationship breakup. Everyone involved knows its gonna be a long night and no one wants to be one of the first foot soldiers to fall. Hydration is important as is consuming some food during daylight hours to reduce some of the impact of the quantity of alcohol consumed.

The bottom line is that these events almost invariably happen to start the wind down process at a late night food vendor. Sometimes folks are adamant they can consume $30 of Waffle House and will make it happen if the other stooges pick up their tab, so you end up at WH chowing mass quantites of breakfast food. Other times folks wind up picking up a couple sacks of Whitey Casales to feed what they crave. And still others prefer to grab a pizza, delivered of course. There's no exact science to what constitutes good late chow. So......

What's your favorite late, late night chow location?

I have two spots that stand head and shoulders above all the others and, amazingly, they were located on the same block once upon a time.

Burrito Buggy, Athens OH - Frickin legendary, and its still there today two decades after my first drunken feed.

Branko Buggy, Athens OH - I happened upon this by chance as it wasnt the most popular of buggies since it was new, unknown, shiny and at the end of the strip. The Branko Burger was the keynote item for most, but I went for something I never caught the name of. Grilled French bread with grilled kielbasa, topped with grilled onions and peppers, sauerkraut, Hot Sauce, Mustard and Ketchup. Dont knock it til you've tried it, truuuuuuust me.

RR burger blitz # 2 --- next Thursday evening

The RR Burger Crew has selected the 2nd burger serving establishment to visit.....the 915 Pub and Grill in Ft Thomas KY. Most likely we will congregate around gametime this Thursday evening. Wait....there is no Reds game next Thursday evening!!! Lets say 7pm? The invitation is extended to all who lay eyes on this post. It looks like we might be doing this every couple weeks or so and it will probably be even more interesting when there are Reds televised games on in the background.

I have been to this place many times over the years but i've never had one of their burgers. I have almost always ordered the fish fillet, which is OUTstanding. I have already pre-selected which burger I will be ordering next week. The choice was very easy.
