Shapiro: Wedge's Job Safe

Shapiro: Wedge's Job Safe

I didn't know it was ever in jeopardy. But I guess after having almost won the WS last season and now struggling this season, despite injuries, today's media environment calls for such a maneuver by Shapiro. I know a few guys here loathe Wedge. And his penchant to play Partay pooper is reprehensible. That said, I still think Wedge complements Shapiro's plan very well and, let's be honest, he is one of the top managers in all of the major leagues. His in game strategy is poor at times. But that is only one component of a manager's job and one we tend, I think, to overemphasize as it's the aspect we see most often. None of us sees how he manages personalities and attitudes.

I vote in favor of Wedge.

CC dominated the Pirates (I bet those LGTers in attendance had fun!) but allowed a supposed hit to Andy Laroche. Laroche hit a slow grounder back to the pitcher and CC misplayed it, an obvious error if you ask me. What do you guys think? Error or not?

The Unbreakable Bat

A 55 yr old guy invented a way to structure a wooden bat so that, he claims, it will not break.

"It is made from 12 wedges that are combined with adhesive and clamping pressure. The result is that the outside of each wedge has a tight grain surface, guaranteeing the best hitting surface at every spot on the bat."

I bet Fausto can break it.

The guys at Baseball Prospectus have a new post up featuring a brief interview with the Tribe's top '08 draft choice. From the relatively little gleened from the interview, Lonnie seems like an ok kid.
