An alum of both USC and the Ohio State University. NCAA football and the English Premier League are my passions.

Now I'm a parent of a Cal Bear so I have to root for them to do well in the Pac 12 as well.

LAG Confidential An MLS first in the Premier League

In today's Aston Villa vs Everton game both teams used players on loan from the LA Galaxy. Landon Donovan played a strong game and got an assist. It should have been his second of the game since Luis Saha was clearly fouled on a play when Landon made a beautiful cross and Saha was in place for an easy header. No penalty was given.

Robbie Keane came on late in the game for Aston Villa and made some nice plays. He looked dangerous but didn't score.

The value of these short-term deals has been discussed elsewhere, but as a Galaxy fan it was a very cool thing to see two of our players going against each other in the top league in the world. (score not posted in case anyone has recorded the game for later viewing or is going to catch a replay on FSC).

Conquest Chronicles The US News and World Report Rankings are out

And just as with last year's rankings, USC came in ahead of UCLA.

My daughter went through the admissions process this past year and I was amazed how difficult it has gotten to get into USC.   Kids I thought would be shoo-ins didn't get accepted into USC (but some who were rejected by USC got into UCLA).   Times have certainly changed since I was a student there!

Conquest Chronicles Something I NEVER thought I'd read on BN

After the Stanford loss I eased my pain by checking out Bruins Nation.  A close loss is still a loss but we didn't get blown out by Stanford the way that UCLA did, so I was curious about their reaction.  I was shocked to read what Nestor had to say:

and they still own us

Last time we checked the scoreboard. I don’t really care about the Trojans losing a heartbreaker. We have the worst program in California and don’t belong in the same league as the other three. Not right now.

An admission that USC owns UCLA?

UCLA does not belong in the same league as the other 3 Pac 10 California schools?

Wow, that sure is different that the usual "spin" over there!

But cheer up Nestor, you don't really have the worst program in California.   Unless perhaps San Jose State and SDSU finish the year really strong.
