THE Offseason solution

1. Trade Scott Rolen to the Dodgers for Juan Pierre

Pierre's contract:
08:$8M, 09:$10M, 10:$10M, 11:$8.5M

Rolen's contract:
08:$12M, 09:$12M, 10:$12M

Work out the financials. The Dodgers are looking for a 3b and STL needs a leadoff hitter. Pierre would be fast and a great leadoff "whiteyball" type player.

Pierre's last 5 years in steals and batting average with hits:
07- 64, .293, 196
06- 58, .292, 204
05- 57, .276, 181
04- 45, .326, 221
03- 65, .305, 204

2. Trade Jim Edmonds and Anthony Reyes to the Texas Rangers for Kevin Millwood and Hank Blalock

Millwood's contract:
08:$8.5M, 09:$11M, 10:$12M

Blalock's contract:
08:$5.95M, 09:$6.2M club option

Edmonds' contract:
08:$8M

Reyes: league minimum til 2010

Texas has expressed interest in Edmonds and would like to get Millwood's salary off their hands. Which is what the Cardinals need. Millwood could come back to the NL where he has been sucessful. An innings eater, and a good veteran presence in the rotation.

Rids team of Reyes and gains an everyday third baseman.

3. Play Brian Barton everyday in right field.

This is a 5 tool player that needs to stay in Cardinal red. His BballRef comparables include Carlos Beltran, and some say he is in the same mold as Chris Young. Ankiel just wont cut it in my book as a starter.

4. Resign Jeff Weaver.

Bring back Dream Weaver. Plain and simple. Get it done.

This would leave the following 08 lineup and Rotation:

cf- Juan Pierre
rf- Brian Barton
1b- Albert Pujols
3b- Hank Blalock
lf- Chris Duncan
c- Yadier Molina
2b- Adam Kennedy
ss- Cesar Izturis
p- Pitchers spot

  1. Adam Wainwright
  2. Kevin Millwood
  3. Braden Looper
  4. Jeff Weaver
  5. Joel Pineiro
Carpenter comes back midseason and everyone shifts down 1. Looper goes back to the bullpen.
  1. Chris Carpenter
  2. Adam Wainwright
  3. Kevin Millwood
  4. Jeff Weaver
  5. Joel Pineiro

Gonzalez for LaRoche

Ok, this thing has been boiling for weeks now, and ESPN says its official..one thing i can't understand is why Pittsburgh is doing this.

LaRoche is great and all, but isn't he now blocking Brad Eldred to ever making the big leagues?

Gonzalez could've gotten the Pirates way more than just LaRoche from numerous teams that were interested.  That's why these talks went on forever, but it looks like the Pirates are willing to settle on LaRoche.

Does anyone other than me think that Atlanta totally won this deal because of how valuable relief help is now a days especially since Gonzalez is a young lefty.  There are plenty of slugging first basemen out there.

Poll
Who won this deal?
Pittsburgh by a little, LaRoche finally gives them a big bat to protect Jason Bay
5 votes
Pittsburgh by a lot, Gonzalez is injury prone and has bad breath
1 votes
Atlanta by a lot, Gonzalez fills their closer need
3 votes
Atlanta by a little, LaRoche will be tough to replace
2 votes
Neither, basically a swap of young talent
