Canis Hoopus GB at the Olympics

Now I know most of you won't give two hoots about this. Today FIBA made the decision that my home country (and our Wolves' second home judging by pre-season appearances) Great Britain have qualified for the 2012 Olympics. This is great news for basketball in the UK and hopefully a big boost to the development of the game over here.

It would also show how much the game is loved over here and maybe one day have a franchise in the UK.

Just want your thoughts because, between that and our two wins it's been a pretty good week!

Does anyone think this is likely? Should this happen? And should GB qualify for the Olympics just because they are host?

Canis Hoopus Enough is Enough

I’ve been watching the Wolves for 15 years now, albeit from a distant merry England and this year is the first I’ve managed to get a season pass through nba.com and haven’t missed a game so far.

Now, I’m loyal to the core and will cheer my team through thick or thin, win, lose or draw as I do with my football team Torquay United. I’m also the type of person to give coaches, managers etc a chance and hate calling for heads to roll.

But last night’s game was just the final straw for me. I have lost faith with this team. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my Wolves and always will. But this system, this coaching staff, the front office; it’s all wrong and something has to change.

Three starters managed a solitary point between them and six turnovers. What the hell? Wes doesn’t look like he could throw a rock at the floor and miss. Jonny Flynn is a ghost at the moment and there is no way he should be starting ahead of Ridnour right now.

What really got me from the Portland game was the coaching staff. We let it get an 18-2 lead before we call a time-out. 18 points to 2!!!!! Well the game’s over before it’s even started for us. Yeah there might be plenty of time to get back you may argue but in that opening five minutes or so their players have caught fire and their confidence is up. Meanwhile ours is shot to pieces and we never got into a grove all night. Calling an earlier time-out could have (not necessarily would have) changed that. Breaking up the momentum could have changed the entire game for us and given us a chance.

Sadly though we didn’t and we were never at the races for the whole game and definitely the worst performance I’ve seen us play. We played with no heart and no soul, which from a professional team is unacceptable.  Wayne Ellington was the only one who looked like he wanted to win. Again not saying they didn’t but you know where I’m coming from.

Going back to the team strategy though, our shot selection was atrocious. Why did our best player only put up seven shots? Just as much of a crime why have three bench players had more shots than him when none of them particularly caught fire?

At the moment we seem clueless from top to bottom. I’ve lost faith with Rambis. Khan needs to make some changes to the roster as well, bring in some guards who know what they’re doing. If not he should go too. Kevin Pritchard’s still available isn’t he?

Perhaps I’m over-reacting but I felt we should have kicked on after our two road wins; the next two were certainly winables and we failed. Badly. Again. I’m just starting to think that we aren’t progressing enough, some vets might be the answer but we need to change at the top or we may need see the play-offs for some years!

Canis Hoopus What Shall We Do With Ricky Rubio?

<!--StartFragment-->

Well we’re halfway through the season and supposedly we’re only six months away from Ricky Rubio signing with us, according to David Khan. The latest reports are though state that he wants to play on the east coast and apparently with the Celtics. Personally, I don’t se the logic with a move for him to Boston as Rajon Rondo has the starting point guard job for life and no one will oust him for love-nor-money.

The NY Times has also reported that his production is at an all-time low and he’s burnt-out at just 20 years old. How much of this is true I don’t know. I’m English and we get no access to European basketball as the British League don’t generally play against them. I only get NBA access due to my League Pass (best purchase ever by the way!!!)

What should the Wolves do with him though? Should Khan insist on keeping his rights? Should we trade him now whilst he still has value? Or should we wait until he publicly says “I’m never coming to ‘Sota”?

Personally I’m getting a bit sick of this and his non-committal attitude. I think that Khan should insist on an answer from him if he ever intends on playing for the Wolves. If not then just get rid and bring in someone who’s happy to play in Minneapolis.

If Rubio insists on it being an East coast team though, then who do we trade for/to? I don’t see anyone who is available but would also provide fair value. Would draft picks be enough?

In the Premier League if a player wants to move on then generally the player is sold as they don’t want anyone there who will upset the rest of the squad. In my opinion, if Rubio is likely to do this then we should let him go for some fair value. Khan can try to charm him but in this case we could actually get something exciting in return for his rights.

What’s your views people?
