Blaine Boyer strikes again.

Ok...hate me if you want to, but I've seen enough. I watched Boyer melt down over and over again last year. I was through with him then. Many have said that perhaps he was just tired last year or over used. So far this year, I don't think that excuse can be used. so far this year he's appeared in 3 games. In 1.1 IP, he's allowed 3 H, 3 BB, 6 ER and has 2 K. His ERA now stands at 40.50. I mean, seriously, are we really going to keep allowing this guy to give games away? Yeah, Yeah, yeah, I know. Its early. At some point, though, you have to stop making excuses for people who aren't getting it done.

Hard to watch...

I've been a fan of the Bravos since I was in 1st grade way back in the late 70s. I've stuck with them through thick and thin. That said, they are hard to watch right now. Its almost like they are just laying down. Chipper seems to have given up any desire to hold off Pujols. And when did he last hit a homer? Kotchman's mom is sick and he's not coming back any time soon. I'm not sure he's really been thrilled to be in ATL since day one.

I keep trying to find some bright spot to hang my hat on, but I'm really struggling to find one. We keep marching Boyer out there so that he can increase the other teams' leads. We do our best to make sure Jurjens won't win the Rookie of the Year award by not scoring when he pitches. And today the fire sale continued with Kotsay being traded. It sure looks like this team has mailed it in. Please, show me I'm wrong. Help me see the light. All I see is a team that has no fire, no desire, no will to at least play the role of a spoiler.

I have to agree with Gondee on the Glavine situation. I hope we aren't counting on him next year. It was great to see him back in a Braves uniform this year, like the all was right with the world. But we should've known better. I bring up Glavine because I'm a bit despondent on our outlook for next year. Are we entering another long stretch like the mid-late 80s? Are Jo Jo and Charlie the 2008 version of Marty Clary and Rick Luecken? Is Chuck James our Derek Liliquist? Blaine Boyer our Joe Hesketh?

Hope does indeed spring eternal...but this spring seems to have dried up for the moment.

Teixeira should've learned the A-Rod lesson

I was struck by Tex's quote on the braves.com site.

"It's very bittersweet," Teixeira said. "I loved it here, I really did. I wanted to stay here the rest of my career, but business is business, and sometimes you have to move on, and I'm looking forward to moving on to L.A."

Ever since he got to Atlanta, he's played his cards very close to vest. He didn't want to give anyone an idea of where he wanted to go or what he wanted to do once he hit free agency. I would have to assume that this was based on his agent's advice. So, instead of being open with the Braves in the off season and getting down to business with an extension, he decided to play coy and wait.

Now he's lost his chance to stay in Atlanta for the rest of his career. He can call it bittersweet, but he brought it on himself.
