My Take on Leach Situation
I just wanted to take a moment and express my views on the firing of Mike Leach at Texas Tech.
How can people continue supporting this guy after all that has transpired?
It's ludicrous the way Adam James and his family have been treated by Tech fans and coaches. I'm not trying to dispute the accusations made that the WR was lazy, selfish, and had a great sense of entitlement. Also, I'm not here to argue that his father hasn't been as described by those close to the situation. By all accounts, the accusations seem to hold some truth to them.
The Heisman Predictor: Week 13
Can someone with ESPN Insider access please post Ryan McCrystal's latest article here? Of course we all know the situation, the Heisman is Colt's to lose, much to that chagrin of Stanford/Pac-10 fans, but I'd like to read the article anyway.
Thanks BONers!
This sounds familiar...
Former OU standout Dan Cody is apparently making headlines this morning for getting into a fight with a teammate during OTAs.
This is truly a non-story as far as I'm concerned, but as I was reading it, I couldn't help but to think it all sounded too familiar. I could be wrong on this, but wasn't Cody involved in that bar fight between a couple of OU players a few years ago?
Maybe someone out there has a better memory about this than myself.
Malcom Kelly
How stupid is this guy? Watch this video of his interview after the special day they set up for him to work out since his thigh prevented him from working out at the Combine or OU's Pro Day.
Talk about reciever's syndrome, this guy's got it bad. The part I found most interesting was when he brought up his missing the bowl game. I'll paraphrase a little here:
Kelly: People kept asking me, you know, whether i sat out the bowl game because I had decided to go pro, you know what I'm saying? Look what might've happened...I'd still be rehabbing and stuck here for another year, know what I'm saying? My family, blah blah blah.
It'll be funny watching this jackass fall down the boards come Draft day.
2008 NFL Draft
Ok, I know that the draft is quite a ways away still, and the 'Boys have, eh-hem, Super things to care of this season. Still, this being championship Sat. in college football, along with the other diary posted earlier, has got me thinking about the draft.
I just want to get a feel for what everyone thinks the team's needs are. Who do you think we should go after to fill said needs.
Also, are those needs bad enough to trade both 1st round picks to move up into the top 5 or 10, or do we keep them?
ESPN Fantasy Games
I was just looking around ESPN's Fantasy page and ran across a sign-up for this season's Pick Em and something called the College Football Challenge.
Apparently the objective of the Challenge is to pick 5 teams from 1 conference and accumulate the most points possible.
Just wondering whether there will be a BON league again this year?
Athlon 2007 Preseason Ranks
I don't know if anybody has been following this, but Athlon's been rolling out it's preseason poll 1 team at a time.
There are on #5 today (West Virginia) and will count down the remaining four teams throughout the remainder of this week.
Still not listed--USC, Notre Dame, LSU, and Texas. That is my best guess as to who will be in the top 4, although UND and LSU that high baffles me. How do the rest of you see this developing?
Greg Monroe
I noticed an article over on orangebloods by Gerry talking about the Horns' latest recruiting target--top prospect Greg Monroe. It is a ($) article, and I don't have a subscription. Can anyone with a Rivals subscription share the jest of that article? Where does Texas stand?
New A&M coach
How good of a fit is Turgeon for A&M? I don't see them doing jack shit next year.

And the sheep farmers complain about Rick Barnes? Puhleeese.
Former Horn RB Charged
With stealing a cab?

Note to all athletes, whether they be professional or student-athletes--Stay away from the strip clubs!! Nothing but trouble awaits you at places like that.
Really, how hard can it be to get normal girls @ the Dub to take off their clothes?
Brewster wants Texas
New Minnesota head coach and form Horns assistant Tim Brewster wants to schedule Texas. I sure hope he's let Mack & co. know. Maybe they can sneak on a future schedule in place of Arkie State.
Chiles?
What's the story with him?
Does anyone with a Rivals subscription know if he was cleared to enroll? I noticed a story on it, but don't have the access.
Finally!
A reasonable early 2007 outlook.

Oklahoma @ #20 seem much more plausible than all these predictions about Allan Patrick making those guys preseason top 10 material.
Final AP & Coaches Polls
Ranks Horns 13th to finish season.
And, for McCovey's sake, Colt McCoy was named a Freshman All-American by Scripps.
Isn't there any way to do away with this 150 character limit?
Something struck me
I know this is going to seem far-fetched, but our lack of depth at QB is a bit troubling and got me thinking. I was wondering if it would be smart to go after a player wanting to transfer. Mustain seems very unhappy with the piggies, and I know Texas was in on recruiting him out of HS. I highly doubt that Mitch would be interested in backing up Colt, and I am certain his mother wouldn't go for it, but I don't see him staying at Arkansas. Just check out his statement following the loss to Wisconsin:
"Mustain decided not to transfer, but the former Springdale High star hasn't been too committal when talking about his future with the Razorbacks.
'I'm not going to get into that,' Mustain said when asked after the Capital One Bowl if he'd be back at Arkansas next season."
Williams, his HS mate, has already bolted and I suspect he'll wind up in Chapel Hill with Pinalto. This would likely be my guess to Mustain's future home as well, seeing how Butch Davis is from Springdale, but it also got me wondering what other QBs might be looking to transfer. I'd be much more comfortable with some experience backing McCoy up in a couple of years.

Fiesta Bowl DVD
This will definitely be the first non-UT addition to my growing library.
You can pre-order it here.

When will they ever learn?
It seems people STILL don't want to "let Vince be Vince," as Mack Brown would say.
"It appears he has just scratched the surface, and if he's willing to continue working on his throwing motion and understanding the intricacies of the game, he has a chance to be great. Right now, he's on a roll, but he hasn't reinvented the game."
Always with the throwing motion.
The story's a good read though.

Check out
This great shot of Kevin Durant taken by Sporting News photographer Robert Seale.
It's slide 3

Oh and Vernon Davis is an absolute beast.
KD's future at Texas
All I've heard since Durant signed with Texas is that it would be a one-and-done deal.
I found this interesting piece on the Chronicle's website:
Smith said one of the factors in Johnson heading to the Longhorns was that Texas superstar Kevin Durant told him he would stay two years at the school.
The 6-foot-9 Durant, who is only a freshman, is projected to be the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NBA draft, according to reports from ESPN.
"Durant told Gary he would stay and play a year with him," Smith said. "I think Gary could leave after one year, too. No more than two."

If he does stay past this year, look out, the Horns will be a force to be reckoned with.
How could anyone still doubt this guy?
Another week, another comeback for the most electrifying football player this planet's ever seen.
Keep it up big guy!
Those Cornholes
Apparently they have nothing to do in NE (surprise, surprise) They voted themselves 2 Husker teams to vie for ESPN's All-Time Greatest Football Playoff Championship Game. '95 Neb beat the '71 version by a sound margin.

Does anyone have
Any info on the Brantley/Chiles visits this past weekend? I know we've been distracted by VY's heroics and the Horns re-emergence on the basketball scene after 2 heart-breaking losses earlier in the season/week.
Snead Brown & Dolan to transfer Confirmed
It's official.
One-line diaries are prohibited on Burnt Orange Nation. Give your diary a bit more thought, then give it another shot. If you have nothing to add to your proposed diary, then it probably belongs as a comment under another appropriate thread.
Horns to Gator or Alamo
"The Longhorns won't be going to the Cotton or Holiday Bowls.
The Cotton said Wednesday it would take the loser of Saturday's Big 12 championship game between Oklahoma and Nebraska. The Holiday announced it was taking Texas A&M.
That leaves either the Gator or Alamo Bowls as the likely destination for the Longhorns."
http://blogs.chron.com/longhorns/2006/11/bowl_destination_gator_or_alam.html
I don't really understand this exactly. I see the only way Texas can't go as the no. 2 Big 12 team if OU wins Sat, but even if they do, we'd still have the no. 3 spot in our conference.
I'm not really opposed to the Gator Bowl, but I believe we should be going to Dallas or San Diego.
Texas #2 in Matthews/Scripps Howard
Texas comes in 2nd to USC in preseason power ratings.
Rank Team Rating
1 Southern Cal 115.03
2 Texas 113.20
3 Ohio State 107.35
4 LSU 106.41
5 Virginia Tech 105.27
6 Oklahoma 105.16
7 Auburn 104.73
8 Georgia 104.26
9 Miami 103.73
10 Michigan 102.40
Is Dienhart kidding???
This is just ridiculous...
"Now, Oklahoma finds itself in a similar boat as Texas, entering the year with a question mark under center. But, unlike the Longhorns, Oklahoma has an incredible defense -- and A.P."
...do people just forget about Gene Chizik or what?
2nd 07 Basketball recruit nearing???
I was reading Gregg Doyel's article from a few days ago and came across this jewel regarding top guard recruit Jerryd Bayless recruitment:
"Bayless to Texas: He hasn't committed yet, but it's only a matter of time. Jerryd Bayless, one of the top guards in the class of 2007 and a no-brainer future NBA player, is expected to pick Texas after decommitting earlier this summer from Arizona. Coaches throughout the Southwest say they're barely bothering to recruit Bayless because they're that sure he's headed to the Longhorns."
http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/9544296
This would be a huge boost to Rick Barnes' program. Coupled with fellow five-star recruit Johnson's commit, Texas would be in good shape to lure other top-notch recruits. We might not miss Kevin Durant too much after next year.
ESPN ranks 2007 recruits
Interesting, to say the least. They grade Chiles out (at QB no less) higher than Brantley.
Also note-worthy, IMO, is that they give a 91 to Clausen in 2007, but last year's evaluation netted Jevan Snead a grade of 91.
