Adam Dunn and the Zimmerman Note
No, the Big Donkey did not have anything to do with WWII and Mexico (that we know of) but according to ESPN, He might of had something to do with Zimmerman's hitting streak.
Astros not that impressed with Volquez
After throwing the best game of his career against the Astros last night ( 8 i.p. 1 hit 6ks), the Houston manager Cecil Cooper was less than effusive in his assessment of the Reds' Dominican Dandy in a Houston Chronicle Recap of the game:
“I didn’t think he was all that sharp,” Cooper said of Volquez. “I really didn’t. I thought he had some life to his fastball. It looked like we had some pitches to hit, but we just didn’t swing it very well. You have to give him some credit. I didn’t think he was like a one-hit type of performance, but I did think he threw the ball really well.”
What game was he watching? According to Cooper, Volquez did not pitch that well despite possessing the 4th best gamescore of any pitcher in the NL this year with a score of 85 (Harang's shutout is first with a score of 90). What could be Cooper's motivation for saying that Volquez's impeccable performance was, well peccable? While I personally did not witness it, some commenters at the Crawfishboxes commented that EV laughed at some of the futile swings that the 'Stros were taking against him. Did Cooper notice that too? Was he upset with Voltron breaking the ethos of baseball and showing up his hitters? Or was he just angry that players such as Pence were swinging way in front of Volquez's change up (and if it was the latter would that not be the definition of pitching a superb game)?
I personally did not see EV show a player up, but that does not meant it did not happen. If it did happen, is this something to be concerned about, or do we chalk it up to youthful exuberance? Or, am i simply writing a Fanpost that has an overabundance of interrogative statements?
Freel unhappy in Baltimore. Edgar Allen Poe nods from grave.
Ex-Red Ryan Freel unhappy with playing time and is suggesting Baltimore is not a place where they appreciate 'scrappiness' and multiple injuries.
