Could Trevor Hoffman's Retirement influence Pettitte to return?
Trevor Hoffman announced his retirement this week. Hoffman retires as the MLB Saves leader with 601.Mariano Rivera needs 43 saves to pass Hoffman. Wouldn't it be something if Mo could get that save in relief of Andy Pettitte, one of his closest friends. And wouldn't it be special if it happens in Yankee stadium. Pettitte may be looking ahead thinking 2011 might be a lousy year, but moments, no events, like this seemed preordained, and I think 2011 will be a great year for Mo, the Yankees and should he decide to come back, Andy Pettitte.
With the 31st pick.....
Can you imagine the excitement, the anticipation. All reporters standing by to hear what player is so high on Cashman's list that he would turn down a chance to get a player like Soriano. I really cant wait till the anouncement is made. With the 31st pick the New York Yankees have selected, Phil Evans, SS from La Costa Canyon HS.
Im sure this selection will tip the scales in our favor, and we will have to be considered the odds on pick to win our next WSC.
Andy Pettitte. Whats The Yankees Offer?
What is the Yankees Offer to Pettitte?
Jose Guillen in Pinstripes
Any news about Jose Guillen joining the Yankees.
Save The Stadium Update
In 2005 when the Yankees made the announcement for the new stadium, the press release said the stadium facade and playing field would be preserved so that “special events” may take place there. I contacted the Landmark Commission via mail to ask what the status was on the pettition to have the stadium reviewed for eligibility as a New York landmark/monument.
Yesterday I was contacted by the NYC Landmark Offices and they said:
In response to your inquiries concerning Yankee Stadium, please be advised that the property was not recommended to the full Commission for further consideration as an individual New York City Landmark due to its current condition and architectural integrity. Upon careful review by a senior staff committee of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the property was found to be too significantly altered (renovations to the stadium in the 1970s and later removed nearly all of the building’s historic fabric), and therefore does not meet the criteria for designation. I guess “Special Events” mean BBQ’s and Softball games.

Can we afford Damon, and Nady ?
Theres all this talk about the Yankees not wanting to spend a lot of money on LF and thats understandable, but what I dont get is the $2M figure thay say have left in the "budget" At present Yankee Salaries are at just over $181M. So are they trying to stay under $185M, or is my math wrong and the projected salaries for 2010 are actually higher? If my figures are correct we should be able to sign each (given the price is right).
Save Yankee Stadium
I dont know if most fans agree with me, but earlier I sent an e-mail to Congess and the Senate to see if my reps would get involved with a movement to stop the destruction of Yankee Stadium. Yankee Stadium is just as much a part of our history as the USS ARIZONA, or the Alamo, and certainly a bigger part of our history than the home of Edgar Allen Poe, (no offense, just an example). We have erected monuments, and statues, and preserved sites to keep alive forever the memory of our past, Yankee stadium is certainly a part of our history. I didn't realize the plans were to destroy and level the stadium and replace it with a park. That just doesn't seem to be enough of a tribute to a place where so much history was made. I dont know if we can save her, but I think its worth a try. There is a website where a petition is being readied to send to the NYC Landmarks Commision, but they have been working on it for awhile,. thier site is http://saveyankeestadium.org/ .I think contacting your congessman or state senator would be faster and if we get enough of a turn out on this it may work.
Lets try to save the stadium. Instead of tearing her down, they should be turning her into a National Monument.
Left Field. Is the answer already in the lineup?
Nady, Damon, Hoffman, Johnson, Dye, all rumored to be the next Yankee Left Fielder. What would happen if Jeter voluntered to play Left. I know he had a great 2009, but before that he faced a lot of criticism about his defensive skills, his lack of range etc. Well he proved them all wrong and had a great year. Prior to 09 there was talk, especially in the press that Jeter should be thinking about playing the OF, why not now? He has no more to prove to anyone, yet he must realize that he doesn't need to play 150 games at SS. And that doesn't mean he cant still play SS, but why not let Pena have a few more games.
Is Joba Afraid To Fail?
Last year' s pitching phenom Joba Chamberlain is as we know a starter. Despite excelling in a relief role and setup man for Mariano Rivera, the Yankees decided and have stuck with Chamberlain as a Starter.Yankee fans still question if this is best for a team that is trying to overtake the Red Sox, and win the American League East. The Yankee Bull-pen for most of the season has under achieved, and a number of fans believe that Joba should return to the BP where he's had his success and where he can influence the outcome of more games.Yankee fans believe that the 0-8 start against Boston is a fluke, and if Joba was available in the pen, the Yankees would have won some of those games. The fans who support Joba's return to the BP point out that Joba's fastball has lost velocity, he issues a lot of walks, and his control has been off. So why? I believe Joba Chamberlain is afraid to lose, afraid to be called a one season wonder. There have been others, Ed Whitson, Carl Pavano, they tasted success were touted as the last piece of the puzzle the Yanks needed. Then they fell apart pitching in front of the most demanding, die hard fans in the world, and they couldn't live up to the hype. Forget, Whitson and Pavano, lets concentrate on Joba. Your a young guy that throws 95-96 MPH, playing for the New York Yankees, and in 2008 you enjoy success, fame and fan adolation. In 2009, you're taken out of your comfort zone. Now instead of inheriting runners that if they score will affect somebody' elses ERA, now its your record and your legacy and your image thats on the line. There's no "Mo" warming up in the pen, because it's the 1st inning and you've walked 2 with 1 out and Poppi due up. They took away his security blanket. What's going through his head? Does he thrive on these situations? Or has he lost confidence in that fastball that just last year was reaching 95 MPH consistently. Is he trying to fool to many hitters? Is he shaking off Posada because he's second guessing himself. So much depends on his winning, so much that maybe, just maybe his fear of losing is what has been holding him back. It's only a thought, but sometimes Joba looks like he's thinking too much. Whatever role he's cast in the rest of the season, lets hope he can get back that 95-96 MPH FB, and stop worrying about personal stats.
