California Golden Blogs Cal Women's Basketball in Oregon (Three Year Old iPhone) Photo Essay

[Twist: Wanted to promote PaleoDan's great post here! Don't forget that Cal women's basketball takes on Stanford THIS SUNDAY! at 6 PM at Haas. Get your screaming voices ready to get out there. We're working on getting a group rate, so keep your ears locked here for more! GO BEARS!]

Last week, my wife and I went up to Oregon to see my family and the women's basketball games against Oregon State and University of Oregon. I took some photos with my three year old iPhone camera, and Twist wanted me to share them here. It was a fun trip, even if it did rain the entire time: Cal women's basketball came away with two wins!

We started Thursday at the new Ford Alumni Center at UofO. The Ducks sure spent some money (like they do on everything). These columns aren't just info panels, some are interactive touch screens. Other columns were full of memorabilia, like a first generation Air Jordan shoe and a waffle maker. (Guess why...)

There was a last minute change to the practice time for today's open practice at Laney College. The practice will be from 10:45am-1pm, not at 1pm as previously announced. MoragaBear has confirmed this at Bear Insider. Hopefully people will be able to make it!

California Golden Blogs New Cal Athletics Website for AT&T Park

There are a lot of previously unknown details about the 2011 Cal Football Season on the new website http://www.calfootballsf.com/.  The most interesting to me is that they are changing Young Alumni seating (if you graduated in the last 10 years) to New Alumni (the last 5 years).  For a seating chart of AT&T Park (including prices), click through.

California Golden Blogs DBD 10.20.10 A Confused Response

First off, where the hell is everybody?  The week after we lose (again) to U$C (sucks) everyone suddenly has all sorts of "work" they should be doing?  "Oh yes, we're all very busy.  These TPS reports won't file themselves.  The paperwork I have been procrastinating all fall must be completed now."  Do you really expect me to believe that?  I think you all might be avoiding Cal football.  What, a 34 point loss got you down?  BOO-FUCKING-HOO.  Kids these days don't have any balls.

California Golden Blogs DBD 9.23.10 Missing the DBD

I'm sorry everyone.  I haven't been keeping up with the DBD.  There are three DBDs from the week in between the Colorado and Nevada games that I haven't read, and now I fear I may never read them...  I know my comments late at night (well after everyone has already forgotten their conversations) are not useful, interesting, or insightful, but I very much enjoy starting taxonomy-based slap-fights.  And now I've missed three different chances to complain about triceratops not being aardvarks.  Damn.

For violations its internal investigation discovered surrounding OJ Mayo's recruitment, USC basketball has given itself sanctions. They have vacated all their wins from 2007-08, and they will not participate in any postseason tournaments, including the PAC-10 Tournament in LA.

California Golden Blogs Calling Cal's 20-10 win at Rutgers "a victory" is being too nice

My choice for the ugliest Cal football victory is the 20-10 Cal win over Rutgers in New Jersey.  Ragnarok didn't make his description of the game depressing enough, so I felt I needed to write something up.

At the beginning of the season, the Straw Hat Band was excited to go to New York City and play Rutgers.  All the seniors had made plans to go, it was going to be a big fun time, and the underclassmen were desperately trying to get on the list.  I was fortunate as a junior to be on the list, mostly because the seniors in my section were lame and I had good attendance.  Two of my friends had spent all summer planning the trip for the Band:  buying the plane tickets, finding hotel rooms, making the schedule.  And then the Tuesday before the game, only four days before we were supposed to leave, there were the September 11 attacks.  Everyone knew immediately that the game would be cancelled...we were supposed to fly into Newark...but would they even bother to reschedule the game?  We were at war... were we even allowed to play football anymore?
