McCovey Chronicles Giants give fans early shot at tickets

The World Champions are giving fans a chance to get spring and early summer tickets before the holidays.

The San Franciso Giants planned to end their single-game pre-sale Monday, but overwhelming response led the team to extend the offer through Friday.

Russ Stanley, the Giants managing vice president of ticket operations, told examiner.com that the team sold 25,000 tickets the first day the pre-sale was offered, Dec. 8. He added that the available pre-sale tickets for the Giants-Dodger series in April have already sold out. (Note to fans: The games themselves have not been sold out, just the limited pre-sale holiday tickets the Giants were offering. Season-ticket purchasers and fans buying single-game tickets at FanFest in February can still land tickets for the Dodgers' first series of 2011 at AT&T Park).

While the Giants' 2010 World Championship was enough gift for any longtime Giant fan, tickets to see the 2011 team aren't too shabby of a present either.

Has anybody gotten tickets through this system?

Fish Stripes Marlins have jobs

The Marlins are looking for more than a few good men and women.

Individuals looking to intern or obtain seasonal jobs with the Fighting Fish are encouraged to sign up for a Nov. 4 job fair. Attendees must register on the Marlins'  Web by Oct. 28.

While having positions available, the team makes no promises that they won't trade you mid-season when cost-cutting measures go into motion.

Red Reporter Fan appreciation?

Nice to see the Reds are going all out for Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday and giving lunchmeat vouchers as a prize! Nice work, guys!

People support a mediocre team all year, and the best you can give them is lunchmeat? How about a free hot dog? A free hamburger? Free parking? Maybe 2-for-1 nachos or Super Ropes. Something a tad more exciting than lunchmeat.
