Portis Done with Skins?

Clinton Portis discussed what has been on his mind since he suffered a concussion more than a month ago: That his time in Washington may be over. Given the Redskins' disappointing 4-9 season and the fact that the team has won just one playoff game since he arrived in a 2004 trade with Denver, Portis said he would understand if he became part of sweeping changes to the roster.

Trade Cooley

Everybody keep their composure! It just an idea.

But does anyone else think we should trade Cooley this off season?  We have FDavis, he's solid and Cooley's trade value is relatively high.  You get younger with Davis and a couple of draft picks.

I know this idea will piss a lot of people off b/c Cooley is a funny dude and everybody's Internet boyfriend, but from a football perspective this would make sense.  Especially if Shanahan comes on-board b/c he usually prefers larger tight ends.

The Curse of CincyBoy

Everyone can sit here all day and point fingers at Snyder, Cerrato, Zorn, the Shermanator, our ex-Canadian kicker, etc... But your finger need only point one way...CINCYBOY.  Ever since we banned the high school prick our team has sucked and the Bengals have flourished.  Sure he was annoying but we are all going to have to sacrifice.

KevinE reverse the CincyBoy ban and I guarantee a .500 or above finish, prob 3-1.  I am blame myself the most for this ban, but it was necessary at the time.

We may have to even do something sacrificial like buy him a Jordan Palmer jersey or something.

Supreme Court Refuses to Hear Redskins Name Case

From CNN:

The justices without comment refused to intervene in the dispute, effectively ending the suit.

A lawsuit was first filed in 1992. Among the plaintiffs is Suzan Shown Harjo of Washington, a Cheyenne/Hodulgee Muscogee and a longtime advocate for Native American rights.

The Redskins name and logo was adopted in 1933 when the team was based in Boston, Massachusetts, and had been known as the Braves. In a legal brief filed with the court, the team said the name was changed to honor the Redskins coach at the time, William Henry "Lone Star" Dietz, a Native American.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted a formal trademark in 1967, and it has been renewed several times since. The team has said it has spent "millions of dollars ... promoting, advertising, and protecting its mark."

Update by KevinE: Redskins are not of the muck yet. Native Americans can still win the battle where Snyder loses the 'Redskins' trademark, which means he'd have to change the name if he ever wants to make a buck.

Where were the delay of games?

All I heard all week from cough, cough GeoFly, Scott E, poopo, smuts, etc. is how many delay of games that we were going to get and how chaotic the play calling was going to be, along with stupid bingo jokes all week.  Where was the chaos? Was it b/c they used a number system with an armband!?!?!?! Who would of thought...

Anyways I think its time to let the youth play! Fred Davis had his best game of his career, Cooley is done for the year (I would imagine).  Give me some more Jarmon!

Not that it really matters (acutally kind of does) but did anyone else think that on Jackson's first TD that Maclin was holding Rogers for like 15 yards and Rogers was the only potential player with a resonable angle.  And what a messed up no call on the late hit penalty in the second half, I didn't know you could tackle players on the bench?

What was kind of crazy last night is that JC had his WORST game ever and we still almost had a shot to pull it out.  Especially if you eliminate his dumbass turnovers.

Shanahan Turned Down Skins

http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/10/19/sources-mike-shanahan-turned-down-redskins-coaching-job/?ncid=txtlnkusspor00000002

I'm sure this makes Zorn's week better!  I guess he is still open to coming at the end of the season. Does this make Shanahan the front runner?

"Shanahan told the franchise there was little he could do in the middle of the season for them and that changing coaches during the season in the NFL rarely works,'' a Redskins management source told FanHouse. "Several people that Dan Snyder trusts have suggested, if he makes a move, he should turn it over to secondary coach Jerry Gray. That could still happen.

2010 Coach

I know that we've heard the normal coaching names popping up the last couple of weeks, with Jon Gruden being the front runner apparently. (Guess who's in town for dinner this weekend?) But who does everybody think is the best fit? I think there will be some other good coaches available besides the old farts club (Shanahan, Holmgren).

Holmgren: Old and I'm tired of the WCO. And he did produce Jim Zorn! I don't want a coach that is also GM.

Shanahan: Kind of think he rode Elways coat tails and I've seen enough zone blocking lately. GM duties once again,

Gruden: Could bring some fire to the squad, but could also be a yes man.

Cowher: Pretty sure he's going to Carolina if he goes any where.

What about Jeff Fisher or John Fox? I actually like the two of them better than anyone else and I think both are on their way out.

Blocked Punt

For the second week in a row it seemed like the ref didn't know what the hell was going on during a special teams play.

Can anyone clarify what the rule is on blocked punt situations (I would look it up but, once again, the NFL doesn't publish their rulebook).  I was under the impression if the Receiving team blocks the ball and it is recovered by the kicking team beyond the neutral zone then the kicking teams gets the ball 1st and 10 at that spot, or I had the thought that the kicking team has to advance the ball past the 1st down markers.

Why was Rock allowed to run to the end zone? Why no whistle? The ref didn't really give a clear cut explanation.

Clinton Tortoise

Does any one know how many years is left on his contract?  The guy has definitely slowed down this year.  I'm not sure if should go or not in the off season or if another high level, young backup, in a two back system would be a better solution.

Or maybe a fullback that actually blocks. O yea and an O-line that blocks too.  What does everyone think? Does CP have anything left in the tank? Or his decline attributed to the blocking or him being continually battered over the years.

Trade Deadline

Usually not much of anything goes down with the NFL trade deadline but it seems like some interesting stuff could go down this year and some stuff that makes me want to scream.

Ok first of all, I heard on the radio this morning that the Skins are considering trading for Brady Quinn. (Its ok to scream) Has anybody watched much of this kid at all? Does he suck or is it the disfunctionality of Cleveland? Either way I don't want him and definately don't want to trade away any picks.

A lot of people are calling for ARE to be shipped out of town but his cap number makes him basically untradeable.  But the more I think about it the more I think that ARE can be a great receiver if he solely plays in the slot and let MK and DT play outside.  Ship out Santana Mouse if anybody.

Others on the block:

Shawne Merriman: Please resist Danny and Vinny
Derrick Johnson: Could fit in well with the Skins and allow us to move Orakpo to the line, and could be the future once Fletcher retires.
Julius Peppers: Linked to New England, they need some dynamic defensive players BAD
T.O.: Not going anywhere
Roscoe Parrish: Some how linked to the Skins, WHY!?!?
