Was just browsing on Scout today and had a bit of a surprise - Texas has evidently signed the top recruit in the 2010 basketball class. Have I just been sleep-walking since March Madness? How did I miss this one? And why haven't PB and AW been jumping up and down with excitement?

Can anyone share the full story on this guy? Another KD in the making? Who else is on Rick's radar?

I just love Pat Forde... even when I don't agree with him.

Pat Forde Column

I do agree with his comment about the schedule though. Pretty much a perfect storm for Texas this year.

This one is pretty good too:

10. If Mark Sanchez stays healthy, he will be the starting quarterback all season at USC.
Hopefully Mitch Mustain's mom will be OK with that.

Cracks me up. And makes me grateful my Mom is so cool!

Are you frickin' kidding me? I didn't even know they played sports besides football.

Fresno State has upset Rice and #2 UNC in Omaha, and are now one win away (against either UNC again or LSU) from playing for the national championship. With top seed Miami a loss away from elimination, we could realistically see two teams who were not seeded in the Top 8 (Stanford and Fresno State) playing for the national championship for the first time ever.

Photo of new volleyball recruit Rachel Adams, who will join the Horns this Fall. Between Rachel and Destinee Texas will have two of the highest leapers in the country - a definite advantage given that our setter is 6'4" and can position the ball at the top of these girls' jump for an almost unblockable kill.

I wondered in a post earlier this Spring if Kyle Russell made a mistake spurning the Cardinals and returning for his Junior season at Texas. It was a tough year for Kyle, and a tough year for Texas, and I thought his draft stock had been seriously damaged. Thankfully for Kyle, though, the Los Angeles Dodges saw through the struggles to the sheer talent, and selected Kyle with the 93rd pick of the 2008 draft.

So Kyle wins on two counts - he goes earlier and should get better money, and he goes to a great team in a fun town.

The pre-draft prognosticators all had Jordan Danks going before Kyle, but Jordan didn't go until the 7th round with the 210th pick (White Sox), so I won't be surprised if he comes back.

Congrats to Kyle, and best of luck in the bigs.....

40AS, I didn't get a chance to stroll through the draft to see how many of our 2008 recruits got drafted, and how many might be likely to sign instead of coming to Texas?

Just found this article from a week ago.

Third-string quarterback Keith Nichol plans to transfer from Oklahoma after just one season.

Sooners coach Bob Stoops announced Friday that Nichol would not be returning.

"We had a good conversation with Keith and certainly understand his desire to seek an opportunity in another program," Stoops said in a statement. "He knows that we are supportive of him under any circumstance, whether it's here or at a different school. We want what's best for him."

Nichol initially committed to Michigan State, but then enrolled at Oklahoma last January to get an early jump on the quarterback competition. Sam Bradford eventually won the starting job and became the nation's top-rated passer last season.

Kinne switches from Baylor to Texas, now he's transferring. Nichol was a highly-touted recruit out of high school, Bob went and poached him away from MSU when he was desperate for QB depth. Both guys got lost in the shuffle when McCoy and Bradford turned out to be better than advertised.

I can think of other examples just in the recent past. Jevan Snead and John Brantley both switched, Snead has transferred and Brantley is waiting for Tebow to go pro. Perri-loser is not at Jacksonville State, for his sins. And these are just the guys with Texas connections.

Was just wondering, can you BON'ers help me with a QB commitment switch that HAS worked out in the past few years?

The University of Texas has been selected as a host site for one of the Regional rounds of the 2008 NCAA volleyball championships for the second time in three years. This is a testament to both the quality of the program of late and the great support of the fans. Regional sites are chosen largely based on attendance figures, but of course also based on the quality of the team. On both counts Texas is one of the tops in the country of late, finishing in the top 10 in both final rankings and average attendance.

What does this mean for the team - and us fans? Well it's almost certain the Texas will play the first four rounds in Austin, so we get to see more games and the team gets home court advantage. Given the talent that's returning for 2008, there's no reason not to expect Texas to make it to the Regional Final for the third year in a row, and this year to finally break through to the Final Four. I'd say that would definetly merit a trip back over the pond for ole PHF.

Seattle SuperSonics guard Kevin Durant will be named NBA Rookie of the Year, the Seattle Times reported, citing two anonymous league sources. Durant, who led all first-year players in scoring, assists and free-throw percentage, beat out Atlanta Hawks forward Al Horford to become the first Rookie of the Year in Seattle franchise history, the newspaper reported. The NBA is expected to officially announce the award on Thursday. Durant averaged 20.3 points per game in 2007-08 -- the highest scoring average for a rookie since LeBron James averaged 20.9 points per game in 2003-04. Only three of the past 10 rookies of the year -- Durant, James and Elton Brand -- have averaged at least 20 points in their first season.

KD is ROY
