Big XII going out with a whimper?

  1. Jerrod Johnson sacked 6 times, intercepted 4, Aggies barely escape FIU
  2. Phenom RGIII finished 16-of-28 passing for 164 yards and ran 14 times for only 21 yards as TCU proved they are the best team in Texas right now
  3. Missouri needed a last second TD to beat SDSU - at home
  4. The Land Thieves have looked vulnerable in close wins over Air Force and and Utah State - which team will show up in Dallas?
  5. Nebraska and OSU are the only teams that have been consistently impressive - against overmatched opponents

Death Penalty for the Land Thieves? Nah.

"The NCAA's job, near as I can tell, is to hammer the small schools who break the rules while letting the bigger schools, with the powerful lawyers, go on about their business. You'll see it soon enough with Southern California, a school whose football and basketball programs should be zipped into a body bag and not exhumed for a year or two. Instead, USC will get some probation, some more scholarship sanctions, something it can handle -- but not what it deserves. Soon, we'll say the same thing about Oklahoma: The Sooners will get something -- but not what they deserve."

Baseball Bracketology

Texas paired with TCU. Rice and OU in our Super Regional set of teams. Not bad.

Colonic Irrigation?

"In order to get better, sometimes you have to cleanse," Capel said. "Sometimes you have to lose some things."

What happened to Tim Griffin?

Who is David Ubben? Where did Tim go?

Brantley's father ailing

"I don't talk about it too much," said the younger Brantley, who is preparing for the most important season of his career. "I try to keep it off my mind as much as I can. It's going to be a tough day, a really tough day. But stuff happens. He should be fine."

Sexy Dexy: The Man, The Inspiration

Fantastic article. Bumped. How can anyone not love Big Sexter? --PB-- The media just can't get enough of the big man's story. "I have this dream," Pittman said. "If I make it in the NBA one day and I'm a millionaire, I'll have kids like Silas -- kids like I used to be -- over to my house, spend time with them and help them. This isn't about basketball. I want to make a difference in people's lives. It's like there are fireworks going off inside my head. I'm just scratching the surface on who I can be."

Thanks to the BON'er community from a very grateful PHF

The Gazelles made me proud tonight, battling the best team in NCAA volleyball history to what amounted to a draw, trading punches until the very end of a remarkable 5-set championship match.  Think...

Gazelles Daily Roundup - December 19 2009

It's time.  Four years of waiting are over tonight.  Game on. The matchup is the volleyball equivalent to Texas vs. Southern Cal in football in 2005. Hooker is Texas' Vince Young. Just like with...

Gazelles Daily Roundup - December 18 2009

Gazelles win!  And just like their counterparts in football, Texas moves on to play the #1 team in the country for the National Championship. Texas had an easy time of it, taking out Minnesota in a...

Gazelles Daily Roundup - December 17th Edition

With apologies to Dime, who does an amazing job trolling the Interweb to gather stories on all things Longhorn, I will be providing a daily update through the weekend as the #2 Gregory Gazelles...

I know BON'ers love Erin Andrews

... but I don't think any of you would go this far. Would ya? "Barrett has admitted renting hotel rooms next to Andrews three times and shooting two videos of her while she was naked. He was accused of posting the videos online and trying to sell them to the Los Angeles-based celebrity gossip site TMZ this year."

Hunter an honorary Gazelle

'Prior to Lawrence kicking the game-winning 46-yard field goal at the Big 12 Championship against Nebraska, Texas Volleyball head coach Jerritt Elliott sent text messages to all his captains. All season, the Longhorns have been motivated by a theme of "defining moments," so Elliott wrote, "This will be a defining moment for him. This is the moment we want to be in." Once the Longhorns were preparing for the NCAA Volleyball Omaha Regional, Elliott wanted the theme to continue. Football coach Mack Brown shared a Lawrence jersey that Elliott placed in the locker room before the Longhorns took on Nebraska in the regional final. "Sometimes adversity will face you, and you have to figure out what to do to be successful. The jersey was a reminder of what (Hunter) was able to do for our school," senior setter Ashley Engle said.' Jealous PB?

Early Enrollees ($)

The article says Connor Wood will enroll in spring and I know Reggie Wilson will as well. Anyone else?

Texas True Freshman of the Year - Who Ya Got?

  1. Marquise Goodwin?
  2. Garrett Gilbert?
  3. Kenny Vaccaro?
  4. Marcus Davis?
  5. Tevin Mims?

Is Case the Real Deal

"After his defense gave him a 7-0 first quarter lead on an Ethan Hiser interception return, McCoy threw three touchdowns to lift Graham to a 34-0 halftime lead. McCoy spread his seven first half completions among four receivers and threw a 38-yard touchdown to Spencer Sims and two touchdowns passes to Dylan Fulford. The 6-foot-2-inch University of Texas commitment also ran for a 19-yard touchdown on Graham's first drive of the second half." Looks like we're headed to a Colt vs. Jevan Part Two with Case and Connor.

Another Sooner regretting his decision to come back?

Willie Warren scores 30, but Sooners lose to yet another unranked team. "We're not a very good team right now," Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel said. Ya think Jeff?

Happy Thanksgiving BON'ers

  1. I'm thankful the aTm game is back on Thursday
  2. I'm thankful McCoy's Boys, the Gazelles and the Barnes-stormers are all ranked #2
  3. I'm thankful that I'll be in Tampa for the v-ball Final Four and in Pasadena for the Game of the Decade
  4. I'm thankful I'm not, never have been, and never shall be a Sooner fan
  5. And most of all, I'm thankful for getting to spend time with family and friends on this special day

Simms a starter again

" Chris Simms was taking snaps with the Denver Broncos' starters again Thursday. That makes it increasingly likely that Simms will start against San Diego on Sunday in place of Kyle Orton, who sprained his left ankle last week against Washington."

David Greene gets Colt McCoy just right

Greene said he admires McCoy for his ability to beat opponents with his arm and with his feet. "He has to do a lot for their offense but he always seems to be under control," he said. "He doesn't...

Thanks to our Men & Women in the Armed Forces

An amazing day here in London, with the entire city coming to a standstill at 1100 GMT for two minutes of silence to honor the passing of the last three WWI veterans here in the UK this year.  Over...

Avery Bradley

A combination of TJ and Royal? The mind boggles. "What Avery loves to do as much as any player that I've been around in a long time is really get into the offensive player and belly up to him,'' Barnes said. "He's probably got to get a little defensive discipline, where he doesn't just take off and try to do something on his own and maybe give up a 3-point shot and he has to work on his close-outs. But once he gets there, he can really guard you.''

CBS Big XII Hoops Preview

"Texas' Rick Barnes has a roster that could top any he has coached, including the one T.J. Ford led to a Final Four. Texas has NBA-level players at four positions (freshmen Avery Bradley at shooting guard, freshman Jordan Hamilton on the wing, seniors Damion James and Dexter Pittman up front), and a dynamic freshman point guard named J'Covan Brown who seems to impress everybody who watches a Texas practice or pickup game, including myself. Add Justin Mason, Gary Johnson, Varez Ward, Dogus Balbay and Jai Lucas (Florida transfer who is eligible in December) to the mix, and Barnes will have a hell of a time trying to find enough minutes to keep everybody happy. But, as they say, that's a nice problem to have."

Gazelles finally fall

Texas faced it's toughest test of the season last night, and despite another stellar performance from Destinee Hooker they couldn't get the job done, falling in five sets to ISU in Ames. It was close (12-15 in the 5th set) but no cigar for the no-longer-perfect Gazelles. The loss to the 8th ranked Cyclones on the road shouldn't knock Texas from the #2 ranking, but probably puts paid to any hopes of the overall #1 seed in the post-season, as PSU has no more challenges left on their schedule. Texas will now likely end up with the #2 seed and be sent to Minneapolis for the UM regionals. Still all to play for at this point, but a perfect season sure would have been a nice way for this remarkable senior class to finish their careers.

"We battle. We fight, We play tough."

"When the Longhorns review this victory on film and on paper, they will inevitably see all the areas they can improve -- better passing, better blocking, better balance." This is from an article about the victory over OSU right? Nope. It's from the Gazelles' sweep of the Huskers. The trajectory of these two teams' season is so similar you can almost get a two-for-one- deal on writing articles about them. Next up for the Gazelles: Iowa State, the last serious challenge to an undefeated season. The Cyclones are two games back of the Horns, so they don't pose a major threat to winning the Big XII Championship, but Ames is a notoriously difficult place to play with extremely rabid fans. Oh, and another footnote: Destinee was awarded Big XII Offensive Player of the Week this week - the fourth time she's won the award just this season. She is a shoe-in to win the conference player of the year, and has to be co-favorite for the national award with PSU's Megan Hodge.

Colt gets $18k. Legally.

"The Campbell Trophy (formerly the Draddy) is presented by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. The winner receives $25,000 in scholarship money. All the finalists receive an $18,000 scholarship toward postgraduate studies."

SEC is over-rated

"SEC football 2009 has been living off its past all season, and the backlash is coming. Maybe it's here already. Maybe, as I channel my inner Barack Obama, I am the change we've been waiting for. It's certainly not the other 'Bama. Alabama? That's the superpower we're tired of waiting for. Just like Florida. Overrated, both of them."

Taylor Bible's gonna be good

Earlier this week I posted a comment asking why all the noise about Taylor Bible. He committed so early that I haven't read much about him. This article shows why GoBR is so excited about this guy. "Taylor's always been a great character kid," Denton Guyer head coach John Walsh said. "I'd be lying if I said he came to us with an incredible work ethic, but that's something he's learned to do. Everything always came easy for him. He was the biggest kid on the football field and basketball court, but he's began playing against other big kids and realized he had to really work. His work ethic now is off the charts."
