Silver And Black Pride A Topic from Heaven

Hello everyone. I just like to take a moment of your time, and share some of my thoughts on what this post is, and why I made it. This is the Why(excuse my dumb analogy further on, I'm not very good at those. lol):

Over the past 4-5 weeks, there have been continuous talks about the starting QBs, and several debates here and there about it. We have people choosing sides, and arguing to no end.

You see, I'm all about debating. I believe debating is an important thing amongst every football fan. But I believe debates all have points to make, as well as insights and knowledge. However, this is no longer a debate, but like two children saying which candy is better, and there will be no end until someone admits one is wrong, and the other is right.

Posts regarding this topic seem to be loosing insight, knowledge, and points every week. I think at this moment, it has turned into a shallow debate, that will unfortunately last us until the end of the season. A debate of which candy is better, and why they are right. All three of the things I have stated that debates offer, become re-hashed, and stated over and over again. To here I say this:

They are both candy, and candy is good(grad and campbell). We may not be able to get the expensive candy(brady, rivers, manning, vick), but good candy is better than bad candy(curtis painter, russel, leaf, etc).

So what IS this post made from heaven you may ask? Well heaven has gifted us with the ability to discuss, and debate about other things as well, and not just about this topic.

I'd like this post to be about the:

1) Playcalling

2) defense

3) OL

4) future picks/players in the draft

5) How your thanksgiving was

6) etc.

However, there is one rule:

1) No Bruce vs. JC

I guess you can feel free to comment on what I wrote. If it was necessary, or if you understand why I wrote it. But Id like this post to be discussed about other things freely. A break if anything, from all this Bruce vs. JC crap.

So to this, I leave you with this amazing picture that you can caption if you'd like:

Pats Pulpit Pats and Ravens. Matchups

The Pats and Ravens are both very competitive teams. Each are playoff caliber, and have talent on both sides of the ball. This is said to be the pats biggest matchup so far, and this game should tell us what to expect against playoff caliber teams like baltimore. Here are some of my opinions on our matchups.

Ravens Offense vs. the Patriots Defense

Ravens RB vs. Pats Run defense: I like our run defense more this year than last year. Spikes and Mayo are solid in the middle, and Wilfork and Warren are big bodies on the DL. Whether BB will decide to have wilfork and warren as our DEs, or have Wilfork as our NY remains to be see. If I am the pats, Warren and Wilfork should be our ends, with pryor and wright or Brace in the middle. If I am the Ravens, I would run it toward Wright, if he starts. Wright has been our weak link on the DL in terms of run defense. Ray is a tough runner, and if we don;t get our tackling issues down, then he will run all over us.

Ravens Passing vs. Pats pass defense: Here is our matchup to watch. Will our pass defense hold up against anquan boldin and Houshmanzadeh and Heap? McCourty, with some safety help, did very well against Brandon marshall last week, who is arguably a top 5 WR in the league. So how will he do against boldin? Well Boldin is a VERY tough WR, and sort of has a different style than marshall. Marshall is great at deception, and acceleration, Boldin mostly uses his strength at the line, and try to out "quick" his defender. At least that's as far as I know. If you guys know more about their skill sets, feel free to let me know.

Anyways, McCourty is a tough CB, who should match up well with Boldin. He's been great so far for us this season, and I believe we should be able to shut boldin down. However, this leaves Housh. Would Kyle Arrington start again, and perform well? Will Butler get the nod once more? Who is the better matchup? Well, I think Arrignton should start again. He wasn't "horrible" by any means during his starts here. He's made mistakes, but he should get better the more he plays. Would he be able to play better against Housh than Hartline or Bess? Maybe. Should we worry about Heap? We have done well covering TEs lately, so I hope not. We can expect Chung or one of our LBs to cover him from time to time.

We should keep in mind that Ray Rice can catch in the backfield, so we should expect screen plays quite a bit. And flacco is NOT henne, so we can also expect him to commit less mistakes, as well as more accurate passes.

Pats Pulpit Moss or no Moss? Here's the difference.

When we brought Moss here in 07, we introduced the "spread" offense. Well... not introduced, but it was an introduction to the pats offense.

If you think about it this way, by adding moss to the team we:

A) No longer ran the ball as much

B) No longer threw to the TE as much

With this offense, it was really JUST focused on Moss and Welker, with a little Watson and a little Stallworth. Opposing defenses were just not ready for us. yeah, it was Historic, but having moss on the team called for a different type of offense all together: A PASS PASS PASS offense.

There was no TRUE diversity to it really. And we've done it so well, but like I said, I believe opposing defenses were not exactly ready. And I can GUARANTEE you opposing defenses were not ready for the breakout in Wes Welker

So now, with Randy gone, here are things we can expect, and things we do not expect.

Pats Pulpit A Randy Moss Dilemma

(Editor's Note: This is a piece patriotguy2 wrote on September 19th. It's been brought back because it's particularly relevant)

What I loved most about Tom Brady, wast how he stressed that the best receiver, for him, is the open one. In the early years of this decade, we had no name receivers. In those same early years of the decade, we won 3 Superbowls with those "no name" receivers. The reason being not only because we had a VERY good defense, but because Brady made smart passes to open receivers. There was no favorite.

In 2007, we brought in Wes Welker and Randy Moss and witnessed a massacre of a passing attack. However great '07 was, Brady was very accurate placing the ball perfectly on deep passes and made smart throws to Welker, Jabar Gaffney, Donte Stallworth, and Ben Watson. He was distributing the ball to the open man. Even in times when Moss was not always open, Brady had the great accuracy, and Moss just had to be Moss.

Then, in 2008, Brady gets injured.

In 2009, Brady comes back. Throughout the season, Brady STRUGGLED to throw an ACCURATE deep pass to Moss. Also, coming after the knee accident, he checked down A LOT to Welker. More often than we'd like, but we:

A) Didn't have Gaffney, or a VERY good 3rd WR

B) Didn't have Stallworth to stretch the field more

C) Had Bill O'Brien and his awesome play calls

So essentially he ONLY had Moss and Welker. He didn't have those weapons from 07. So, with the play calling, Brady continued to try and throw deep to Moss- sometimes into double coverage. He still tried to throw it safe, but the long pass didn't work as well as '07. Even though the deep pass wasn't working, he had Welker to check down to- and he became very reliant on Welker. Moss was great as that downfield receiver, but throwing it deep did not work as well, and throwing it to Welker became an addiction. He was always open, so Brady loved throwing it to him.

Also, Bill O'Brien and his "brilliant" design calls, he essentially had Brady only use Moss and Welker, and we didn't see much of Watson or any other receiver at all. Our play calling was not diverse, and that especially failed in the second half where our inconsistencies shined the most.

Which brings us to now.

Find out about NOW after the jump!

Silver And Black Pride OFF-TOPIC- Need thoughts on a possible film script

I have been told before that we can make Off-Topic threads every now and then. Well, I'd like to make an Off-Topic thread, so I can have some thoughts, and hopefully criticism, on a script of a film I might look into making. One of my interests is filmmaking, and I learned the best way to get better at something, is to get multiple views on it, and get some form of criticism on it. BUT, if Rated-R, or Saint want to take the post down, then I guess I wouldn't blame them.

This film, I'm titling as The Hit. It's about two Hitman who work together who went to kill this one guy. After they got the job done, they realize that someone has an idea of what they look like. Not only that, but a family member is out to get revenge on them, and the ones who hired them. Here's the first draft of the first scene:

Scene: Two guys, Marty and Greg, are at a table in a bar, watching a raiders game. The raiders D got a sack on the Chargers QB Phillip Rivers, everyone in the bar erupted with excitement, as the other team will not have to punt. Marty joined in, and turned to find his friend with his head down. Marty sits back down next to Greg:

Marty: “Hey something wrong?”

Greg: “Just a little nervous, that’s all.”

Marty: “About the game?”

Greg: “No asshole! I’m talking about our fucking job here! You know? I mean...-”

Marty: “What are you talking about?”

Greg: “..Nothing. I guess I just want to get this night over with. When do you think he’ll be here?”

Marty looks at his watch: “Within a half-hour.”

Greg: “Good. Very good.”

Complaints took over the bar, and Marty yells out: “Hey! What the hell happened?”

A guy: “That asshole Schilens got injured again. Guy’s fucking glass man!”

Marty: “Son of a bitch.” Marty sighs, and looks back to Greg: “Listen man. We’ll get this through. All your doing is standing by the door, that’s all.”

Greg: “Eh.”

Silence between the two for 2 minutes.

Marty: “You a football fan Greg?”

Greg: “I watch it every now and then.”

Marty: “Well, I guess I can’t blame you. The Raiders haven’t been too good, but they look a lot better this year. What do you think?”

Greg: “I’m not a Raiders fan.”

Marty: “Wait what? Well who’s your favorite then.”

Greg: “Not telling.”

Marty: “Why not?”

Greg: “Because then you’ll wonder why and I’ll have to tell you my life’s story on how I became a fan of that team, and I don’t want to go through it AGAIN at the moment. I’ll tell you later. Maybe after we’re done-”

Marty: “Well get ready, cause here he comes.”

A man walks through the door, and sits at the bar. Bartender gets him a drink, and he takes a sip. He has dark hair, and medium height.

Greg: “How do you know?”

Marty: “They gave me a picture of him a couple days ago.”

Greg: “So now what?”

Marty: “We wait some more.”

10 minutes passed, and the duo sat and watched the man at the bar down two beers. He gets up, and walks toward the bathroom.

Marty: “Time to go.”

Greg: “About fuckin’ time.”

They both get up as well, and walk toward the bathroom.

When they get to the door, Marty: “Wait here. Make sure no one gets in, or out. That’s all you have to do. Still

nervous?”

Greg: “A bit, but I’m better than before. Make it quick though.”

Marty: “Quick ain’t smart, but I’ll get it done as quick as possible.”

Marty pulls out his silenced pistol, and goes in quickly. A man at the sink looks up, and just before he registers a gun in the guy’s hand, Marty lifts, aims, and shoots the gun right into the man’s head. His head hits the sink, breaking it in the process, then falls to the floor dead. The man who he WAS looking for, opens the stall to see what was going on, only to find Marty’s pistol inches from the guy’s throat, and in moments, he gets shot in the neck, blood pouring down his shirt.

He stumbles backward against the toilet, and Marty puts three quick bullets into the man. Two in the chest, and one in the head. He puts the gun back in his holster inside his jacket, steps back so his shoes doesn’t taste blood, and walks out to meet Greg.

Marty in a whisper: “Alright. Let’s get out quick. Before anyone walks in.”

Greg: “Right behind ya.”

As they walk out, a woman was peeking out of the woman’s bathroom, and staring at the Marty and Greg. She only saw the backs of their heads however. As they walk out of the bar, she runs out, and enters the men’s room. She screams, and everyone in the bar looks away from their routine, to eventually find two bodies on a bloody floor.

End Scene

After this, what happens is, is that the woman gets questioned by the police at some point, and the two men(marty and greg) retrieve their money. They also hear on the radio, after they receive their money, that the police are looking for them, and they have to flee the state.

The police also talk to the son, who inform him of his dads death, and the son wants revenge. He asks the woman some questions first, then tries to find the men.

So please. Thoughts? Criticism? I think I might need to work on the dialogue a bit more, and keep in mind, this isn't exactly script format. Thanks!

The fact that they are 8-0 when Maroney carries over 20 times. So... maroney only carried over 20 times, 8 times. Nice use of running game, they should have maroney carry around 17-20 times a game.

Pats Pulpit A post that maybe hopefully keeps us nice and busy. :)

Training Camp is only around 20 more days away! I can't wait to watch our youngins on the field performing.

Anyways, here we make a predictions at how much our offense and defense will achieve. This team looks very different from the team we used to know. This post may be like in terms of Summing up what we know, and evaluating and predicting on them.

For offense, we have tons of weapons available in terms of passing. Brady no longer has to rely on welker(or I think) and moss to help him out, but he'll have to be in sync with Tate, Hernandez(assuming he comes in the slot receiving/receiving TE roe early), and edelman. Maroney has something to prove(he needs to), Price is looking to surprise, Gronk may be a big sleeper(no pun intended), and our OL is sort of in question in terms of our lineup(something like that).

1) How will our receivers, other than welker, in your opinion will perform this year with Brady coming off 2009(including Moss). Which one will have a surprise and great year?

2) How will our new TEs perform? Who will be thrown into the mix early, and contribute right away?

3) How much will our running game be a factor this year? Will, or should, it be involved heavily on our offensive scheme based on the talent we have?

4) Will our OL still be top 5 in the league? Top 10?

5) Who will be our starting FB?

Keep in mind, that I would like to know how you think These players will perform as well.

On defense, we have a question at the RE spot, LBs, Safety, and CB. Forgive me if I don't remember a name, but candidates are Wright, Warren, and Lewis and Brace(unlikely, but has a slight chance). Warren and Wright seem to be the likely candidates, and I hope it's Wright. Mayo is obvious, and I believe Spikes will be starting next to Mayo with Guyton coming in on passing downs. OLB however, is a HUGE question mark. I believe Cunningham will start midway through the season, but other than that, I think Woods and Banta-Cain might be the starters, with Cunningham taking Wood's place midway through the season(if woods doesn't perform well. I believe Chung will start, but Sanders is still ahead at the moment simply because he is reliable. Bodden is obvious as well, and I think Butler will start with McCourty in the slot.

1) Who do you think will start at RE? Why?

2) Who do you think will to start next to Mayo? Who are the best candidates to start at OLB? And for both LB spots, what rotations do you expect in terms of situations? Do you think that our rookie Cunningham will be up to the task?

3) Do you think Chung will start? Who will start next to Bodden?

Keep in mind, that I would like to know how you think These players will perform as well.

Silver And Black Pride A Caption Contest long past due(sorry guys! Here it is!): Raider KC Edition

I have decided to start the contest all over at the start of the season. These contest pictures are to pass the time of the boring part of offseason.

Here, you are to make a quote, or say whatever a player is thinking in the picture. Be creative as possible, and try to leave religion(even if you think it's funny *cough* JaKe *cough*), curses, and race.

Enjoy!

Silver And Black Pride Some opinions of mine: Defense Edition

Throughout this offseason, especially after the draft, we have all been discussing about our defensive situations here in oakland. First off, I'd like to say that it LARGELY depends on which defense we'll run most of the time, which is likely the 4-3. Here are my thoughts:

DE: 1st-Richard Seymour is a given. He HAS to play end, his skills are not meant as a 4-3 DT. His skills on the outside will force the guard to focus on him a bit more, and have our less than stellar(just saying that at the moment) DTs make more plays often than normal. He is fast for a guy his size(not VERY fast, but fast for a guy over 300 pounds I believe. If he isn't please correct me on that). He is more dominant on the end, and he will not be effective in the DT position due to his skills not being that effective. Why is that? His skills are not very effective in the inside because there is no room(or it being crowded in the middle) to USE his skills.

2nd- Lamaar Houston. I think he has the potential of a richard seymour, thought not exactly as big. He is strong enough to stop the run, and fast enough to rush the passer. Him being very strong(he was a pretty good DT in college, so strength is a must in his position), and pretty fast, his natural skills suit the 4-3 end, much like seymour's skills fit there. Some of you may think that since he is a rookie, why have him start, and have Richardson or Shaugnessy start instead? Well, I also want to say that I think we can have a DE rotation with Seymour, Houston, Shaugnessy, and Richardson. Or we should. It will have our guys lose less stamina, and it will force the OT to change their gameplan(or skills or something) due to a different player they face. We can also sometimes have Seymour and Kelly switch occasionally.

DT: I'm not very good at judging from UT to NT. Except that NT are usually bigger and take up double teams. If that's the case, I think that Kelly Heard and Desmond Bryant Rotate in the NT position, since Heard is unlikely going to stay in that position every defensive snap. They are BIG DTs(I heard that Bryant gain more weight. in a good way, since I think I heard it was muscle mass). They should be able to take up double team effectively. Kelly, William Joseph, and Richard Seymour imo should rotate in the UT position. They don't exactly have size, but what they make up for NT size, they are faster, and a bit more quick(I think Kelly is like that). I'm sure you guys agree that Kelly IS in fact a UT, since I heard a lot of people saying this. I don't know much about Joseph though, but I assume UT is his position.

LBs: MLB- I'm pretty sure this is a given. McClain is great against the run, and he is pretty good against the pass. BUT, I think in passing situation, like 3rd and long, I think we should have Howard in the middle, because he is above average in pass coverage, and will help in that category.

OLB- I think we should have Wimbley and a rotation of Scott and Howard, depending on the situation. Wimbley, I haven't seen film of him, but I assume he's good on man coverage, and good against the run. Scott is an elite pass rusher, and I do not know how good he is against the run. He'd make a great 3rd down rusher, but also make a pretty good rotation with Howard.

DBs: CBs- Asomugha and McFadden. I think Johnson has been beatin' up for a WHILE, and QBs and WRs already know his playing style. I'd like to see McFadden in a starting role. Idk, I just think I'd like to see him next to Nnamdi. But either one would be acceptable.

Safeties- Branch and Michael Huff. Only because Huff showed plenty of promise last year. I think FS(Huff) needs to have coverage abilities, and I think Huff has those abilities, as well as great tackling abilities(I know he hits hard at least). Branch is a given at SS.

I think you've noticed in my DL and LB opinions have several DL and LB rotations. I believe that since we have talent at those positions, we should utilize ALL of our talent, while decreasing the stamina in each of our players, so they'll be nice and fresher each time one of them hits the field. We can run many defensive packages with the players we use. I think it's a great idea.

You heard my opinions, so what are yours?

Silver And Black Pride Caption Contest: Tom Brady Edition :)

By now you all should know what this is about. If not, then here's what it is: Here, you make a caption about whatever a player is thinking, saying, or about to say. The caption with the most rec's wins, and there shall be honorable mentions as well.

I'll be posting up points for each blogger to make the board. Don't worry, everyone has a chance, and the important thing is to have fun with it, but I'd like to express a few rules if I may:

1) No racial comments as a caption

2) Don't involve religion

3) Keep swearing to a minimum, simply because I think it's unnecessary to swear to try to be funny.

This time, we have TWO pictures: Picture A, and Picture B. you can make a caption for each one in one post.
Picture A:

Silver And Black Pride Some opinions of mine: Offense Edition

I just like to express my opinions on the offseason, possible depth charts, and maybe some predictions. I'll start on offense, then on defense.

Offense: QB: I think Jason Campbell will get the nod. Not only because grad was injured(still is), but because he displayed talents on a team that's offensively supposedly worse than us. he is faster, and has a bigger arm, but I don't know how much accuracy he really has, but I assume that he does have just about the same accuracy as Grad. I'm sure he'll be successful. BUT, don't expect A LOT out of him in the beginning of the season. He's easing into a new system, playing with different types of receivers, and the OL is different, but probably in a good way.

HB: Well, I think many know that I favor Bush over McFadden as the starting RB. I just think he's a more complete back. McFadden is a home run type, but that also means that he's inconsistent sometimes as well, he fumbles, he's injury prone, and he can't run in between the tackles as well as Bush can, as bush protects the ball more, and he is more powerful enough to get extra yardage, as WELL AS be a home run threat because we've seen him break out big runs plenty of times. Bush is a better blocker, and you can have him run and catch basically every where except WR where I think McFadden has the upper hand in(WR). The OC should use McFadden's speed, and do more pitches to the outside, screens, or line him up as a wideout. HOWEVER, I wouldn't mind running a RBBC(running back by committee). Many pro teams use it such as the Saints, and it's very successful. I could get into more detai about it if you want, but I'll just say that Bush and McFadden will be splitting carries, and the coaches will(should) be utilizing their skills.

WR: At this moment, Chaz and Murphy should be our #1 and #2. Options for #3 are: Ford, DHB, and that other guy(curse me! I can't remember his name!). I'd have my money on DHB, but here is what I think it will be, without any more acquisitions assuming we'll be using 3 WR formations:

1)Chaz

2) DHB

3) Murphy

assuming we'll use 2, just switch murphy and DHB. Murphy is a quick guy with great strength, and great hands. He also displayed great route running, as he reminds me of a Hines Ward. Chaz reminds me of Anquan Boldin. DHB I heard got A LITTLE better, but I think we all expect more out of him. I expect a more polished route running, as ell as better hands, but it looks like he improved only a bit. I am disappointed, but I think we can live with it. I can see ford as our everything guy. a 3rd down man mostly, where he can line up as a WR or HB. He's VERY quick, and VERY fast, but he may need to get better at catching the ball. He reminds me of "Mr. Reliable" Kevin Faulk, only faster. I can see him switching off at the 3rd WR spot every so often as well.

OL: This help much discussion. Here's what I think: We have Veldheer at the left side, with gallery at left guard; and Campbell at RG, with Henderson at RT. I think Veldheer would be able to handle the edge better, and henderson should have an easier time at RT, since that position doesn't usually have pass rushing LBs, which also helps Campbell because he usually uses his strength, and may get beat by pass rushers. Center is obvious in Satele.

Well that concludes my offensive opinions. I'll do the defensive opinions tomorrow maybe. This is just what I think, and I just want to let it out. It feels good to talk about football extensively, and lets not have a slow discussion due to offseason! :)

Silver And Black Pride Caption Contest- JaWalrus Edition

Wait? Did I spell his name wrong? Eh, who cares. It fits him anyways.

Introducing the Jamarcus russel edition!

Although as much as I hate JaDumbass(crap!), I feel that we should stick t the rules anyways. we can be funny without them, and I'm sure you all have MANY creative captions!

Here's the pic!
