For those of us who want a pick-me-up before the game tonight.
Florida State Baseball and the Draft
Every year around this time the Florida State baseball team loses some committed prospects - and some underclassmen - to the Major League Draft. How did we fare this year? Read on for more on what prospects we can expect on campus now that the signing deadline has passed, and what our Noles are up to during the offseason.
Florida State Drops Series To Boston College... Ouch.
For the first time in 18 seasons as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Noles dropped their opening conference series. FSU used a superb individual effort by freshman Sean Gilmartin to take Game 1, and proceeded to get pounded the next 2 games. More inside.
Florida State Baseball Early Season Struggles: Is there a cause for concern?
The Florida State baseball team posted consecutive 46-9 regular season records the past 2 years. 10 games into the 2009 campaign the Noles have already dropped 4 games and are currently sitting on the bad end of a 3 game losing streak, all before ACC play even starts. Should we hit the panick button? More inside.
A Not-So-Early Look at Seminole Baseball
Love is in the air. With the basketball team virtually locking down their first NCAA Tournament bid in over 10 years with a win over Clemson, some might be forgetting that the 2009 Baseball season has started and that our team is off to their usual fast start. More inside on what we can expect from the Seminole baseball team this season.
Preston Parker Arrested
Preston Parker was found asleep behind the steering wheel of his red Dodge Charger. His car had the engine on and was stopped at the drive-thru of a McDonalds. He had a .054 blood alcohol content (the legal limit is .08) and also admitted to smoking marijuana.
One of the requirements of last year's gun and drug charges was that he undergo regular drug tests. This latest news is obviously a violation of his plea agreement and if the charges hold he is, for all intents and purposes, done at FSU.

Baseball Preseason Rankings
As we draw closer and closer to baseball season, which starts Feb. 20 at 4:00pm against Hofstra, the preseason publications are starting to come out and our Noles are getting some love... for the most part.
Most recently, the USA Today Coaches Poll came out, which has the Noles ranked at #9.
Baseball America has us at an ugly #24.
Collegiate Baseball has us at #7.
Finally, the NCBWA has us at #6, our highest of all.
So if you take all these rankings, including Baseball America's unfavorable ranking, the country thinks the Noles are roughly the #12 team in the country to start the season. Are they right?

It is important to take Freshman AA honors into context, as in some situations the award can be won pretty much by default (Ryan McMahon comes to mind). However, what is truly remarkable here is Trickett, this being his 3rd Freshman AA in 2 years. You can expect more of the same as long as we can hang on to this hardened Marine.
Bert Reed & Cameron Wade Charged With Misdemeanors
Update: According to Coach Bowden, there will be no further action taken against Reed or Wade, as they already served their suspension. Contrast Update: ESPN Sportscenter reorts at 5:35 Central time that both have been suspended, again.
FSU police, working in consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, had obtained warrants for one count of battery each against Wade and Reed. The two men turned themselves in to the Leon County Jail today, posted bond and were released. Battery is a misdemeanor.
What do we think here? Will Reed serve any additional suspensions? Is he off the team or is he playing on Saturday? Those are two extremes and I just don't know what to expect. Since they are misdemeanors it means the FSU policy on felonies does not apply. I do not know if anyone from the fraternity was arrested.

My Guess? Time Served. These guys have no priors and these are not felonies.
The "no arrest streak" is broken. It lasted 182 days, which is pretty impressive. One day short of a half-year.
ACC Performance On Both Sides of the Ball
Was arguing with some guy that says our D is not overrated, and I came up with these numbers:
In ACC Play:
Defense is giving up an average of 24 points per game against an average 91st ranked offense.
The 1st string defense is made up of 5 seniors and 6 juniors.
Offense is putting up an average of 26.5 points per game against an average 28th ranked defense.
The 1st string offense is made up of 3 freshmen, 3 sophomores, 3 juniors, and 2 seniors.
I didn't expect the numbers to be as damning as they are.
I believe the D won't be elite, or consistent for that matter, until MA and Company are gone. We need to do what we did to the O to the D side of the ball. The D's decline has been overshadowed by our atrocious O in recent years. Now that we're turning the corner on O, it is readily apparent our D has been a smoke and mirrors show lately.
