An NFL interlude
If there's one thing that South Carolina and Florida fans can agree upon (beyond our intense mutual dislike for UGA & Tennessee and all their works) it's this - hooray for the Minnesota Vikings offence. Sidney Rice is fast becoming a true #1 receiver, Percy Harvin is marching towards a possible offensive rookie of the year award, and rings of various sorts could await them both in the post-season.
After today, their respective stat lines read :
Rice : 56 receptions for 964 yards & 4 TDs (1st, 1st and T-2nd on the team; top five for the league in yardage)
Harvin : 42 receptions for 602 yards & 3 TDs (2nd, 2nd and 4th - I believe currently the top rookie in yardage); 11 carries for 91 yards (3rd for both); 31 kick returns for 924 yards and 2 TDs (1st in each)
That's some fine repping for the SEC, ladies and gents, and reason for Gamecock and Gator fans to be proud.
What shall we call Byrnes?
There's an epidemic raging in our threads - an epidemic of competing nick-names for Eric Byrnes. In the tradition of benevolent dictatorship that has made the Snakepit great, it is time for the not-quite-sovereign people to speak.
Since I'm here, I'll start : "Hacksie." It maintains a connection to the rather lame, but at least familiar, "Byrnsie" and references his most salient characteristic - the fanatical, single-minded determination to swing mightily at every pitch thrown his way. Sometimes they're whacked for doubles, sometimes they go sailing past into the catcher's mitt, but whatever happens he can always proudly claim that he took a hack. (Called strikes are for pitchers!)
