1. About how much is it going to cost?

2. I am planning on flying, but has anyone drove it from D/FW area? How bad is it?

3. What is there for the wife to do?

4. Where do you suggest staying?

5. Any other info you think would help someone going for the first time?

Thanks for any help!!

We are getting closer to the baseball winter meetings. As we all know lots of things get done at the winter meetings. What would be your top 5 things for the Rangers to do at the winter meetings? If you have a trade proposal include the names you what to see dealt and the players coming back. Let's discuss.

1. Talk with Boston........Salty & Byrd for Buchholz

2. Talk with Florida about their catching situation

3. Talk with Ben Sheets agent and find out what his market looks like (probably will be later in the off-season when he signs)

4. Talk with Cincy....see what it would take to get Homer Bailey

5. Don't talk to Ken Williams.......

Value of a Catcher?

It is no secret that the Rangers have catchers on the market this off-season.

It got me to thinking what is the value of a catcher as opposed to the other positions on the field? I think that the catcher and shortstop are the two most important defensive positions, but both are viewed differently for offensive production. Is a catcher just as valuable as a starting pitcher? How would you rate the value of a catcher in today's game? Let's discuss.....

Backup Catcher and DH

I really do not see the problem with your backup Catcher being your full-time DH as well. This most often comes up with Max, but why not let Salty have more at-bats in the DH spot this past season. If your catcher goes down and you insert the DH to play catcher in the field just pinch hit for the pitcher the rest of the game or just let the pitcher hit. It is just one game. If you need to call another catcher up if the starter is hurt then do it.

I do realize this is not a good idea if you are in the playoffs or a must win game. However, during the regular season I do not see the harm in it.

So what does this hurt during the regular season?

Most of the trade talk says we need bullpen arms going forward to next year. I am sure we have at least looked at George Sherrill, but what do you think about him? Should we try to go get him? Should he be our closer or an 8th inning/situtional guy? Seems to meet all the things we need, but I have not seen the Rangers mentioned on him. What kind of package do you think it would take? Is the price too high?

Deadline and OVERVALUE

The last three weeks I have posted the Buyers or Sellers discussions. I think we are all getting a little tired of wanting to know if the Rangers should be buyers or sellers or both or hold or..........

It got me to thinking how much does overvalue play in making deadline (or offseason) deals. It seems that most of us that read Lone Star Ball seem to overvalue the Rangers prospects. For example we think---JMJ, Harrison and Vallejo could possibly bring back David Price or Ben Sheets. Now I am going a little overboard here, but:

1. Do we as Ranger fans overvalue our prospects too much?

2. Do we under value other teams players?

3. What happens at the deadline and does overvalue play a part in it?

Let's discuss

Buyers or Sellers (or Hold) July 1st

This is the 3rd week I have posted a discussion on the Rangers at the trade deadline. Now that we are exactly one month away I think the Rangers trade picture is more cloudy than ever. This week let's put our neck's out there and actually offer a specific trade to discuss. It seems most of us (including me) can say trade Laird or Salty, but what do we truly expect in return. So let's discuss these questions?

1. What trade(s) do you make? Give me specific players in the deals.

2. What do we do with the 1st base position the rest of the year?

Here is my trade: Millwood and Cat to the Phillies for Carlos Carrasco.

I do not know if the Phils would do it, but they should be right in the thick of thinking they can win the World Series. We would get a big-time arm back. Again, I do not know if they would do it, would you? So do you buy, sell or hold?

Buyers or Sellers? 6/23

The last Buyers or Sellers post went pretty good, so I figured I might try to update it every Monday until the trade deadline. We are 38 days from the trade deadline and currently stand 1 game over .500 (39-38).

However, we are 7.5 out in the West and 6 out of the Wildcard.

I think this pretty much means we are sellers unless we are buying for the future. So here are my random questions, let's discuss.

1. Does Laird's injury change any plans on trading a catcher? Does it hurt Laird's value?

2. Again, who do you want to trade and who should we target in return?

3. Is anyone untouchable on the Rangers farm (not Majors)?

4. Which team would you call first?

Hope this post goes as well as the last one.

We are about 43 days away from the trade deadline. Will the Rangers be buyers or sellers? Some questions for debate.

1. Buyers or Sellers?

2. Who gets traded?

3. Who should we look to trade for? (if buyers who? if sellers what prospects or future pieces?)

Just a thought after reading Jamey Newberg's post this morning that we could be buyers. I have always just assumed we would be sellers. Let's discuss!!
