Timbers' Academy Impact on High School Soccer

+

Great article about the impact of the Timbers' Academy on high school soccer around the state. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole situation, but quotes from some of the people associated with high school soccer are pretty frustrating: "End of the metro league..." "PR suicide... " "We seem to dominate football and basketball and baseball in the world, and last I checked, those kids still get to finish with their high school teams" "In club soccer, it is attended by a few parents and a dog." Come on people...

Chara off bench vs. Galaxy a possibility

+

From Timbers Insider: "Head coach John Spencer gave some unexpected news to the small contingent of media gathered at Timbers training on Thursday morning. Apparently newly signed DP Diego Chara is set to meet up with the team in Los Angeles on Friday and might even be available off the bench for the match against the Galaxy."

Timbers are third tier. Exactly where we should be, right near Chicago, Columbus, Chivas, and Toronto. Hoping that changes sooner rather than later though.

"However, along with Killie, newly-promoted MLS side Portland Timbers are also interested in taking Mulgrew – who made his full Northern Ireland debut in a friendly against Turkey in May last year – to America."

Cooper Official

No surprise. Now I want to hear about the other two! "I am really excited to be returning to MLS and joining the Portland Timbers for their inaugural MLS season," said Cooper. "It is a great privilege to come to Portland, where there is a long-standing tradition and a deep passion for the team and the game. It is also extra special to be in the hometown of my adidas family. I am appreciative for the belief that owner Merritt Paulson, coach John Spencer and Gavin Wilkinson have shown in me. I am looking forward to wearing Timbers green, and I hope to make the Timbers Army and all those associated with the club proud." - Cooper

Spencer - Findley - Forest

Interesting that Spencer recommended Findley to Forest in the summer and still picked him up. Obviously the FO never intended to even attempt to sign him for this year.

Marcus Hahneman

4

This sounds like a load of crap, especially since MLSR linked to it. But who knows, weirder things have already happened this off-season. Definitely note the use of COULD and not WILL, WOULD, HAS, etc. - "The 38-year-old shot-stopper's current deal at Molineux is set to finish at the end of the season and a return to his native United States could be on the cards. Hahnemann has never hidden his desire to return to America to finish his career and Portland could now offer him that opportunity. The former Reading star has lost his place in the side in recent weeks after starting the season at No.1 in Mick McCarthy's team. Hahnemann could open talks with Portland next month about a switch or he could wait and see out his contract at Molineux before moving on."
