Where UCLA students come from

16

Interesting piece in the Times--"[A]t UCLA, . . . 29.9% of freshman admission offers went to non-Californians." There is one yuck in the article: some trOJan professor complaining I guess about the large number of foreign and out of state kids at the University of California campuses. Mind your own business professor and give my best to Señora Ross.

What happened when UCLA played Colorado State in Pauley on December 22, 1966?

As the men's basketball season was coming to a blessed end, I was bummed because my brackets were busted early on because I had picked for the finals DeVry University  versus the College of...

#SFatPauley: Daily Bruin blows the call and sells out its readership

Daily Bruin drops the ball while reporting the story on UCLA athletics shutting out students from court-side seating inside New Pauley.

Just got the letter from Morgan Center on next year's and 2012-2013 basketball season tickets and I quote, "An announcement regarding the 2011-2102 season is forthcoming, but the majority of the Bruins' games will be played in Los Angeles with a limited number to be played in Anaheim." Darn--I was looking forward to a game in Bakersfield.

The Gray Lady Speaketh On Mid-Major Success

+

Today's New York Times quotes George Mason's head coach Jim Larranaga on the success of mid-major teams in this year's NCAA tournament: "[T]the biggest factors helping midmajor programs were age and experience. 'There are programs that one-and-done definitely does hurt,' he said. 'But it definitely helps the midmajor programs to be able to retain players until their junior and senior year. Age is a factor; you get older and smarter and stronger.'" If so, this is further evidence next year UCLA should experience a quantum jump in competence if we keep everybody or next to everybody.

Honeycutt Will Consider Chance To Win It All Next Year As A Bruin

5

Tyler Honeycutt has told the Times that, among other things, he will take into account, in his decision-making process about whether to turn pro, UCLA's chances to dominate college basketball in 2011-2012. He calls the chance to win it all a key factor in his decision. Tyler please don't go--you can be part of something special next year--something you will never forget nor regret.

Photo: L.A. Times Remember the 0-0 UCLA- sc tie in 1939. You do? You lie. Great pic of Howard Jones, the then corrupt sc coach (they all are by definition), watching his defense regretfully make a big play at game's end. It wasn't until December 6, 1942 that we beat them for the first time. Go Bruins!
