It's the Bullpen

If Mark Shapiro is trying to figure out whether to fish or cut bait, it seems to me he should focus his attention on the bullpen.  The numbers aren't pretty.  The Tribe bullpen currently ranks as...

CC for son of Tim Wakefield?

There's an article in this mornings NY Times about a 28-year old pitcher named Zink in the Red Sox system who throws a knuckler and is blocked by Tim Wakefield (and the team's reluctance to have two knuckle ball pitchers in the rotation). The article speculates about the Sox having an interest in CC and about this guy's value in a trade for CC. For science fiction fans only, I suspect.

Shocking News -- Aubrey to DL

Nothing new here. But, promoting a catcher from Lake County is a bit of a surprise. He is 22, however.

Reasons to be Cheerful ....

Tigers sweep White Sox. The race to the bottom is on!!

Mastny to start tonight

Castrovince says its not Slocum, but Mastny, taking Westbrook's place tonight. Confirmed by the Plain Dealer here.

Indians vie for record low team batting average

Paul Hagen reports (scroll down in the article) that the Indians team batting average is now just .001 above the record low team BA for a season. He also notes an interesting fact about the team that holds the record. So, which Indians batters will become batting coaches? I bet Casey Blake.

Astros Release Borkowski

Here's the opportunity for the Tribe to collect another high ERA reliever with a really similar name to one they already have. Perhaps this will induce confusion in other teams' batters?

Whither Byrd?

This may seem like an intentional irrational overreactions post, and feel free to use this thread for that purpose if you need to vent, but I started wondering, after thinking about last night's...

Jordan Brown reactivated

Buffalo has reactivated Jordan Brown to play in today's doubleheader. Will we see him in Cleveland any time soon? And, if Aubrey is sent back to the minors when JoBo returns, will he go to Buffalo or Akron?

Laffey stays, Tyner goes

I know this was brought up in the game log, but just in case people missed it, Castrovince reports that Tyner was DFA'd and Laffey will stay "for another week." Also speculation about Masa becoming the closer.

40 game mark

The Indians are quickly approaching the 40 game milestone that Mark Shapiro talks about as the proper time to review the team's progress.  So, what will he conclude?  Here's what I'd say if I were...

More old home week -- Tavarez DFA'd

Trade talks with the Rockies are allegedly dead. Any interest from Indians fans?

A Hafner-Free Zone?

Angry Raffie Right

The PD reports that Rafael Betancourt was pretty mad after last night's game (first paragraph of linked article). I wonder if people think that's something we should worry about (especially in the context of Wedge's pledge to return Borowski to the closer role if he's healthy).

A-Rod sits vs. Tigers

Not that he hurt us that much, but for those of you who think the world is conspiring against the Indians, here's more evidence

Francisco back to Buffalo to make room for Sowers

No surprise here; pretty much what Wedge said would happen. So, who gets sent down when Laffey is called up to start Monday -- Sowers? That would be my guess.

Jon Heyman on CC

Nothing much new here on CC's woes in an SI piece, but I hadn't heard the quote from Ordonez, which supports the view that CC's problem is command, not velocity or an injury.

Lessons of 2006?

Although it’s still pretty early in the season, it might be worth thinking about the 2006 Indians season and the lessons it holds for this year’s team.  The 2005 team narrowly missed the...

tejada to astros

ESPN is reporting that Miguel Tejada is being traded to the Astros for Luke Scott and several minor leaguershttp://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3151849I don't know most of the prospects...

podsednik cut by white sox

Not that this is a big deal, but ESPN is reporting http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3121122 that the White Sox have cut Scott Podsednik, who lived (down) to the potential he showed as a...

David Dellucci

I'm worried about Mark Shapiro's comments yesterday regarding Dave Dellucci (and the likelihood of his getting significant AB's in left next year).  The Indians really took off once they put Lofton...

I know people are focused on Skinner's blunder, which WAS bad and shifted the game away from the Indians.  But, I came away from this series with real questions about the other Indians coaches (not...

This has probably already been said, but I can't stop thinking that the big difference in this year's Indians team is defense.  The ninth inning this afternoon really showed that:  Borowski got a...

Tiger Series

I figure if the Indians win at least one of the games with the Tigers, they're in good shape.  Two wins would ice it.  The pitching matchups aren't very favorable however.  Rogers vs. Byrd is...

future closer?

Erik Karabell at ESPN "predicts" that, next year, JoBo won't be back as the Tribe closer.  Instead, he sees them signing Scott Linebrink (?!) and making him the closer.  The first part of the...

Nixon in the Post-season

Assuming the Tribe make the post-season, do they keep Trot Nixon on the roster?  Terry Pluto wrote today (Monday) that there's no reason Nixon should play over Gutierrez.  He's right.  Given that,...

Brad Snyder recalled and Dl'd

ESPN is reporting that Brad Snyder has been recalled by the Tribe and placed on the DL.  This probably is meant to clear a playoff roster spot for someone not currently on the major league roster....
