Bloody Elbow What do we as fans of MMA wish Fedor would do next?

Ok, so Fedor lost his third fight in a row.  Where does he go from here? I'm sure there are a lot of die hard fans that think he could and should re-focus himself and terrorize the HW division for years to come, but is that realistic? Some are calling out for his retirement and some think he should try to get one more win and go out on a high note, not on his face like Tito Ortiz has said.  Since we the fans buy the event tickets, PPVs, and merchandise we ultimately influence whether or not a fighter can continue to fight and make a living in this sport. So, as a fan what should he do?

Bloody Elbow "Bouts are scored on a 10 point must system based on effective striking, grappling and Octagon control"

These are the words uttered by Mike Goldberg at the start of every UFC bout,  but what do they really mean to the judges?  After reading many of the blogs and the hate towards Cecil Peoples (look folks there were 2 other judges who also scored the fight for Machida) and the rising calls of a Rua robbery I thought I'd just throw this out there.

Bloody Elbow The Demographics of the MMA Fanbase.

In light of the recent disparaging remarks by Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather, Bob Arum and Vince McMahon concerning MMA, I just wanted to conduct a highly informal poll out of curiosity.

Poll

Bloody Elbow Determining a Credible Challenger

I know Joe Silva and the rest of the UFC brass do a good job in determining challengers to the UFC title belts, but I was just wondering what everyone elses thoughts were on a possible determining source that may have been overlooked.

Bloody Elbow Fedor Remains an Enigma

So it looks like Fedor will still remain out of the UFC.  For a non UFC fighter to garner this much attention is unheard of. So why does he? if we look at all the other UFC champions as well as champions from other promotions, none of them are as highly regarded as Fedor. Why? Machida is undefeated, Torres has a superb record and both GSP and A.Silva have cleared out their divisions.  None of them seem to get as much attention as Fedor when it comes to the online buzz and MMA websites.  I think it is the "idea of Fedor" that hooks the hardcore fan in.

Bloody Elbow Fedor Emelianenko Doesn't Matter and Isn't Known to the Average UFC Fan.

I only started really watching MMA (UFC cards in particular) after the third season of TUF. I do remember watching the first 6 UFC PPVs on VHS tapes rented from Jumbo Video back some 16 years ago.  You could say that I'm a typical "new" or "casual" fan. The type of fan that now exists in massive numbers and buys the occaisional UFC PPV. After following the forums on Bloody Elbow and Sherdog for a few years now and reading about all the respect and reverance given to Fedor (and rightly so) I just had to look up and watch his fights, both old and new.  I instantly became a fan. There is no question he is the current #1 Heavyweight MMA Fighter, but the problem is this- much like Wladimir Klischko is in boxing, he is the World's #1 Heavyweight that the North American public does not  know or care about.

Bloody Elbow Potential Downsides to GSP Fighting BJ Penn?

(First of all let me just say that this is my first blog ever so take it easy on me if I make any screw ups.) Like everybody else, I am really looking forward to this fight. Especially since it will be the first live UFC event I have ever attended!   (GSP and BJ Penn are also my 2 favorite fighters.)  In the back of my mind however, I can't help but wonder if the short term monetary gain of having this "superfight" could affect the quality of UFC main events later on in the year.
