Tomahawk Nation Buckeyes getting overshadowed by Paterno- NCAA "Failure to Monitor"

Hidden between the extremely dark cloud of the Penn State Sandusky-Paterno Rape Allegations, the NCAA has been handing out rulings on cases that have previously been top news. Such as Ohio State and UCF, almost as a lets hide our dirty laundry while the sports and news world is busy dealing with something that goes beyond athletics.

Today the NCAA slapped Ohio State with "failure to monitor". Ohio state has already declared some self imposed penalaties such as a reduction of 5 scholarships for 3 years but many expect the NCAA to hit them with bigger sanctions soon.

Here are some quotes from the article .....

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7217079/ncaa-slaps-ohio-state-buckeyes-failure-monitor-charge

**********************************************************************************************************************

"The Buckeyes, who were awaiting a ruling after appearing before the NCAA committee on infractions Aug. 12 for the tattoo-for-memorabilia scandal, received another notice of allegations from the NCAA on Nov. 3. Those allegations revolved around a Cleveland-area booster who provided extra benefits to players"

The NCAA alleged that DiGeronimo provided a total of $2,405 in extra benefits to nine football players. That included payments of $200 each to four players who attended a charity event in February, and five players who were overpaid a total of $1,605 for work they did not perform in summer jobs at DiGeronimo's excavation company.

DiGeronimo had been an Ohio State booster since the 1980s, when he was part of a group known as the "committeemen" who helped recruit players before such practices were outlawed.

Tomahawk Nation The ACC refs are Awesome: They love FSU!

So I’ve been thinking we should have a ref appreciation thread every single week. In this thread we will congratulate the Refs on the great calls they make or usually don’t. These calls will show how great the ACC refs are and how they are under appreciated. Especially which ever crew calls the Florida State game every week because we all know that the ACCs bellcow must be protected and get some preferential treatment. Isn’t that how it works?

Anyways lets get started.

 Photo 1 and 2

The ref is to concerned with making sure the QB is safe to see the defensive line get mugged and held. Great call.

Ref5_medium

Photo 3 and 4

The ref is busy making sure the receiver made the catch and where the spot of the ball is to notice that the defender is riding him for dear life. Blatant Horsecollar but its not the Refs fault he was to busy on the play to notice it right in his face.

Ref4_medium

Ref3_medium

Photo 5, no comment,  G5 made a fair catch didn’t he? Yupp he pointed at the ball> that’s a fair catch.

Ref2_medium

Photo 6

Timmy Jernigan is too much of a freak, so much that first the defender holds him and then he falls and is pretty close to committing a chop block. Once again no ref saw it though!

I hope everyone gets the sarcasm. And im not complaining about the refs, some holds by our line didn’t get called. But I just wanted to show a visual of actual game calls that aren’t getting called or have gotten called incorrectly, so that its not just us talking, but video evidence to show for it. So that we don’t sound like bitter fans when things don’t go our way, but a record of continual of bad refereeing . This will be done weekly.

A battle of top five teams earned ABC’s largest regular season college football audience since 2009.

After the lynch saga, where many FSU and Notre Dame fans stalked and directed very hateful messages to the kid, I really hope that our fans would grow UP, I honestly would not want a situation similar to this.....at MSU

"One factor working against Mississippi State might have been the social networking site Facebook. According to a post by Johnson on his profile wall, he stated that the recruiting experience turned into "a living nightmare" thanks to a Mississippi State fan constantly sending messages and posting on his wall. Rendering of Practice Facility, not an official rendering, just another look at what it could possibily look like, and this is more of a possibility than the orginal design we saw.

This is just one of the bids! SO PLEASE DONT NOT SAY THIS IS THE FINAL DESIGN!

", the NCAA broke out language almost no one (including, by his own admission, Smith) had ever heard: "NCAA policy allows [lifting] penalties for a championship or bowl game if it was reasonable at the time the student-athletes were not aware they were committing violations."

If this were a court of law, we would have just witnessed a plea bargain. Ohio State threw its compliance department under the bus to keep from losing its top quarterback, running back and receiver for the bowl game and delayed penalties until next year, by which time some of the players may have bolted for the NFL unscathed. In the meantime, the NCAA looks tough for adding an extra game above and beyond its usual protocol."

These days, almost everyone in the college sports community is ticked at the NCAA about something, and the collective stink of the past six months is soiling fans' enjoyment of the sport. Come January, two of the five BCS bowls will feature star players whom one segment of the public is miffed are still eligible and another segment is miffed were persecuted to begin with.
The only thing we do know: The Superdome will still be sold out. Allstate will still get a return on its investment. ESPN will get huge ratings for Auburn's national championship appearance.
The business side of college sports goes on unscathed. The "student-athlete" part is murkier than ever.

Tomahawk Nation Coaching Hotseat! Who gets Fired 1st?

Alright the offseason is approaching and so the coaching hotseat is getting red hot around the country. For some reason alot of our rivals seem to be having some troubles and the rumor mill and common fans from these teams are really advocating firing some coaches.

(BTW NOT SAYING THAT ANY OF THESE WILL HAPPEN THIS YEAR)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

To start, Miami, as someone pointed out Randy Shannon is 16-16 in the ACC which is quite pathetic. His highly heralded University of Miami-Northwestern Bulls 2008 recruiting class should be considered among the biggest bust as a collective class that has ever been signed, many of these kids were 4-5* and have seriously not developed and have been the biggest downfall of the program. But Randy is getting the kids to graduate and stay out of trouble something no coach at Miami has ever been able to do, so the admins are quite pleased

- O.C. Mark Whipple while Harris again seems to be a disappointment at QB, many have blamed him for the play calling especially since the Canes have had great success on the ground but he seems unwilling to run the ball, and instead likes to throw 30 yard jump balls.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clemson, seems to be in serious trouble, as South Carolina is positioning itself to reign over the state of S.C., And has continually gotten the top players to commit to the school, Lattimore and now Clowney. Dabo Swinney has squandered many games due to poor game management and many Clemson fans seem to think that he is not a good coach

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steve Addazio, the interim head coach for the Florida Gators during Urbans retirement and the current O.C.. As we all know the Gators dont like losing and will find someone to throw underneath the bus and will run him out of town faster than selling out of jorts. They have blamed him for the offensive line, the play calling, Brantley sucking everything the gators do wrong seems to fall on Addazio these days.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Mark Richt, current coach at Georgia.  Georgia has had a tough season due to Aj Green missing a few games at the beginning of the season but they have been able to turn the season around as of late, but things will only get worse next year as AJ leaves and many starters are leaving, coupled with missing out on a bunch of Georgia talent and the continual amount of player arrest

Kinda crazy, the stuff that boosters with money can and will do for a program...Pickens,Knight, Auburn etc.

"At the heart of the facility is a centralized football operations center that will include nine dedicated football position meeting rooms, two team video theaters, offense and defense strategy rooms as well as a larger conference suite for the entire coaching staff. The centralized area will be flanked by office and locker facilities for coaches, staff and student-athletes," the release said.

"Additional amenities will include a players’ lounge, a recruiting center to host prospective student-athletes, dedicated areas to accommodate professional scouts, a media interview room as well as an advanced video editing and distribution center."

Also included in the project are two turf practice fields and an improved grass practice field for the football program. Plans also call for an underground parking area that will increase Casanova Center parking by at least 60 vehicles, although an estimated 144 spaces will be lost during the construction project itself.

As part of the project, the UO’s soccer and lacrosse programs will receive a new stadium to be located at the east end of Autzen Stadium and to the south of PK Park. That stadium will have a synthetic playing surface, a victory for the UO lacrosse program, which had favored such a surface over the natural grass favored by the soccer program

Tomahawk Nation Does Ponder actually give us the best chance to win against FLORIDA?

I legitimately hate to bring up this topic, as I was one of CP7's greatest fans at the beginning of the season, and even have one of his heisman campaign shirts. But I have to bring this question up after another less than impressive performance against a slightly above average defense. His stats were 16-26 170 yards, 1 td, 1int, while I dont believe the stats are that big of a deal, I believe all of us can agree that he is not the same Christian Ponder we saw last year, in terms of his accuracy and arm strength. Even though he still ranks 3rd in the ACC in QB Passer rating, In more than one occasion you could even noticed that his passing mechanics we're quite poor, as he missed a few throws that most QB's with his talents would usually make; which leads me to believe that he must be hurt or mentally worried about his arm. So with this I question if we should play EJ, who had a very good game against a very talented defensive team in Clemson. Or maybe a rotating Qb? Which would provide another wrinkle to the offense since I believe EJ runs the option pretty well and would not like taking the risk of running Ponder to much.
