I was born and raised in KCK, growing up as a die hard A's fan. I watched in horror as Finley took the budding stars west to conquer baseball in the seventies, but the Royals were my reward for all the suffering. Give me back my Royals.....now!

(OT)Play 60 Bus Commercial; The Band

The Go Team is the band behind the Play 60 Get On The Bus commercial. Not at all what I expected to find when I sought the source of that infectious tack. They're from Brighton, England, and it sounds very different live.

Does A Winner Need Coco?

"Crisp, 32, has spent the last two seasons with the Oakland Athletics, hitting .269 with 16 home runs and 81 stolen bases in 211 games. According to Slusser, Crisp has said he would like to play for a contender, and the A’s have traded star pitchers Gio Gonzalez and Trevor Cahill this offseason and look to be rebuilding." Does Covelli have enough left to be of use to a contender? He'll is 32 and not likely to improve on his lackluster 2011. A negative UZR and a .317 wOBA don't look that valuable to me.

The Yu-Bet Bench

Assuming we will carry 4 bench players, what will have on the bench to start 2012? There must be a backup C, and preferably a capable MLB C with options in MiLB. That’s one of four; from here, the...

Varitek Available At Last!

Looks bad for Brena. I mean, TWO RINGS! Kind of an interesting story about how he got to Boston.

Finley Spent Big On The Draft While In KC

It seems paying big for amateur players and the advent of the draft in 1965 were the biggest factors in the lowly KCA's becoming the mighty, mustachioed OAK A's of the early 70's. A good, short summary of the process from scout.com.

K-Rod And Yu-Bet ARE FA's

"A Brewers spokesperson confirmed that the club has declined the $17.5MM option on Francisco Rodriguez and the $6MM option on Yuniesky Betancourt, tweets MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. The pair will receive buyouts of $3.5MM and $2MM, respectively." $17.5M for a setup man seems a bit insane. $6M for Yu-Bet probably wouldn't be bad if he weren't so bad at baseball. He has done quite well for himself, regardless. There are a couple of great comments.

TLR Still The Genius

I think it's safe to say the Cards won this game because TLR ran himself out of options and had to let it ride. None of his desperate late-game maneuvers had any effect on the results. LHB's hit...

A Simple View Of Gordon's MLB Career

I took Gordon,s stats from June 2007 through the end of 2008, added 2011, and came up with this: 387 Games, 1,662 PA's, 1,479 AB's, 414 Hits, 108 2B, 8 3B, 51 HR, 155 BB, 691 Total Bases. My...

Gordon's True Talent

.262 .343 .434 .777. This is Gordon's MLB line so far. I believe this is seriously distorted by his stats in April and May of 2007, when he clearly should have been in Omaha, and the injury marred...

I Want Dustin Ackley!

I am perhaps irrationally enamored of Ackley. I dream af 5 years of Hosmer, Ackley, Escobar and Moustakas. I would definitely give up Wil Myers to get him, along with any pitcher but Montgomery and...

Revisiting May 2010 Alex Gordon Swing Analysis

I have posted this link before, but in the light of Gordon's spectacular 2011, I thought it bore reposting. What, if anything, do you think Gordon changed?

Can The 2012 Royals Be The 1967 Red Sox?

The 1966 Boston Red Sox finished in ninth place in the American League with a 72-90 record. One year later they took the St. Louis Cardinals to the seventh game of the World Series. This is an...

The GMDM Acquisition All Stars

Recent posts, particularly by Will and RoyalsRetro, reminded me how much more fun it is to watch players suck when they at least have potential. Looking at today’s lineup, only Melky and Frogger...

Aviles Playing RF

Mike Aviles is starting in RF and batting between Papi and Crawford. That is all.

Roger Maris And BABIP

Maris was better than just one great season, and he did play for the A's, so I was idly looking st his stats. He had a career .362 wOBA, pretty damn good. Then I noticed an oddity; his career BABIP...

It might be an hour or so, but the game should go on.

Cruz And Peralta In Tampa

I was watching the extras inning 0-0 marathon between Boston and Tampa Bay after work. Sometime in the extras, Maddon went to the pen for a righty. You could have knocked me over with a feather;...

Wilson Betemit seems to be getting more playing time at the 1B/DH position, which is squeezing Kila out of that mix. Betemit’s career–long  problem has been his bat vs the positions he can play...
