The Smoking Musket Expectations were too high

As the day went on, the folks we'd beaten but with some effort (Marshall, U of M) sucked so badly against lesser teams.  Makes you wonder as to how well we should have been doing against those teams had we been the world beater we (or at least I) was psyched up about.

Then the LSU game.  Ouch.

I'll be at the Bowling Green game, cheering loudly... and hoping we win.   Here's hoping our nose tackles can take some of the double teams off of Bruce I.

The Smoking Musket Go get Trickett!

From the MSNsportsNET:

Florida State coach in waiting Jimbo Fisher has decided to let go four Florida State assistants following the Gator Bowl.

Seminoles’ running backs coach Dexter Carter, defensive ends coach Jody Allen, former North Carolina State coach Chuck Amato and strength coach Todd Stroud will not be returning in 2010.

All four will participate in the bowl game on Jan. 1.

Also, the Charleston Daily Mail reported yesterday that offensive line coach Rick Trickett is a candidate for the Marshall job. Trickett served two stints at West Virginia before leaving for Florida State for the 2007 season.

+++

Given the ever-declining performance of our O-line play (it didn't start with the current administration, it just continued), bringing back Trickett would be just the ticket to shoring up our O-line play.

I realize he left WVU for a reason, but hopefully that reason is freezing his butt off in Michigan right now, and for a comparable amount of money, we could bring him back.

The Smoking Musket HCBS is at it again

Once again, 50 seconds left on the clock, ball at mid-field, and HCBS runs out the clock.  If we're leaving in JB to get experience, here's a good opportunity!!!

Looks like it could be a very long year. the line play for the second half I watched didn't exactly look great.   Their #10 (Brown) ran all through our secondary, it was tough to watch.   It's LIBERTY, GUYS.  WVU played down to their competition.

I'll let the experts dissect the rest.  Another week like this and I'll be pinning for the fiords, uh, basketball season.

The Smoking Musket Da'Sean in, Truck out

Great news for Mr. Butler and not so great news for Truck.  See Sports Illustrated for details.

I think that this might actually work in Truck's favor, another indication of the work he still requires to hone his talent to a higher level.

Meanwhile, great job, Da'Sean, we're all proud of you!  I hope that his leadership skills continue to increase through this experience, as well as learning from the other great talent around him.

The Smoking Musket the curious case of the disappearing bloggers...

"I'm referring to the curious incident of the bloggers posting after the NCAA Tournament and the Draft had ended."

"but the bloggers did no posts after the tournament ended"

"that was the curious incident"

(with apologies to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle)

I sincerely hope you guys don't pull a disappearance like the "Bastard Sons of Pinfall Marks".  That was a great blog and I was sorry to see it go.  If you're on hiatus until July, just let us know.

thanks for the twisted and (occasionally) insightful view of our world!

The Smoking Musket 10 seconds and we're done

Have you noticed with our men's basketball team that when there is 10 seconds on the shot clock, they're cooked?
