New hit song by Corey Perry. Not really my kind of thing musically, but you have to admire the potential MVP candidate's dance moves. Sharks vs Ducks tonight at 7:30
Video of the first day of the Sharks rookie camp on Friday. A few drills, a scrimmage which picked up intensity as it went on, and then an extended shootout round with defenseman Nick Schaus and Nick Petrecki providing the highlights at the end. The Sharks rookies will face Anaheim on Sunday (7:30PM), Vancouver on Monday (7:30PM), and Edmonton on Wednesday (7:30PM) as part of the Youngstars Rookie Tournament in Penticton, British Columbia.
I adapted a poem for the Sharks in the vein of Autumn Wind of the Oakland Raiders. It is from the 1925 poem by Edwin John Pratt called the Shark.
He seemed to know the harbour
So leisurely he swam
His fin like a piece of iron
knifing through the waves he scanned
His body was tubular, tapered, and smoke-blue,
As he passed the wharf,
he turned and snorts
At the flat-fish he did eschew
A flash of throat and teeth
And eyes of metallic grey,
Hard and narrow and slit they pierced
His unwitting and helpless prey
Then out of the harbour,
Lithely, leisurely, he swam
That strange fish, part vulture, part wish
and feared by all of man
San Jose Sharks CEO/President Greg Jamison stepped down after 17 years with the team, 14 and a half running day to day operations. He was one of the figures central to the Sharks success on and off the ice in San Jose.
San Jose Sharks head coach Todd McLellan, center Joe Pavelski, and right wing Devin Setoguchi participated in a question and answer session with title sponsor Hewlett Packard employees earlier this month.
Full transcript available here. Interesting thoughts by McLellan on goaltending and the role of a minor league AHL franchise with regards to the NHL club,
More roller hockey for your eye holes, the 2010 NARCh North America Rollerhockey Championships Pro Division Finals were held Saturday in San Jose. Feel free to make fun of my camerawork in the comments, through the glass is tough, through the glass trying to figure out what the hell is going on is harder. Floor to ceiling seamless glass at SilverCreek is awesome.
Video highlights: C.J. Yoder first goal, flying slide tackle, C.J. Yoder second goal (PP), O’Kane interference penalty, Beilstein game winning goal (PP).
Battle of California still remembers you Pro Beach Hockey. Loved the banked end zones and beachside viewing. Who wasn't a Los Angeles Salsa fan?
PS - I think that is Rudy at the 52 second mark. I might be wrong.

Top 3 Sleek rumors overheard at the NHL draft -- in a band called Sleek and the Sleestack's -- it takes Sleek 20 minutes to watch 60 minutes -- is more interesting than the most interesting man in the world, but prefers Pacifico to Dos Equis.
Interview with 2010 Anaheim Ducks first round draft pick (29th overall) Long Beach native Emerson Etem. "It might sound embarassing, but no I have never been to a Ducks game before," the 6-foot-0, 190-pound right wing said. Pretty cool photo here of his friends and family, as well as a number of surrounding Kings and Sharks fans, applauding the second Californian to be selected in the draft. Video via Sharkspage.
Interview with San Jose Sharks first round draft pick, Charlie Coyle (28th overall). "I am a good two-way player, I like to battle hard, and win battles down low," the 6-foot-2, 202-pound C/RW said when asked to describe his style of play. Video via Sharkspage.com.

Pavelski-Nilsson goal-of-the-year battle on NHL.com
Joe Pavelski's spin-o-rama goal against Nashville's Dan Ellis is losing to a deke by Edmonton's Robert Nilsson on NHL.com's goal-of-the-year tournament highlight contest. Pavelski trails 231-114. As they say in Chicago, vote early and often. You have until the end of today to cast your ballot at goalsoftheyear.nhl.com.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, tone-deaf noise bad. I took a stab at breaking down Niemi here with less musical accompaniment. Biggest key to the series is getting to the Hawks rookie netminder a la Jimmy Howard.

Here is a slow-motion video from CSNCA of Douglas Murray's third period hit on Johan Franzen. It was a clean shoulder-to-shoulder check. Franzen complained to the Detroit media that there should have been a 5-minute major penalty called on the play. It looks like he was trying too hard to draw a call.
Photos from game 5 are up here. Neil Young and Metallica's James Hetfield were at the Tank last night.

Jersey Foul vs Apparel Foul

Yahoo's Puck Daddy is starting up the Jersey Fouls series tomorrow. Here is a look at a road China Sharks sweater, a Travis Moen jersey shirt on the clearance rack, and a Sharks hat circa the 1991-92 inaugural season at the Cow Palace.
Can the Sharks ever approach the horrendous lows of the 1995-96 Los Angeles Kings striped Carls Jr jersey, or one of many unfortunate Anaheim Ducks jersey disasters?
Patrick Kane parody song by the DOH, "I punched a cabbie, but I didn't shoot no deputy"
Large props go out to Dudes on Hockey podcaster Doug Santana for his musical rendition of Patrick Kane's "I punched a cabbie, but I didn't shoot no deputy." Their innovative dude rating system with regards to the biggest hockey stories is trenchant, but the musical numbers keep literally tens of fans coming back each week for more.
This is a slight improvement over Dave Dameshek's Cheechoo Tears in Heaven musical entry, but not as good as Cheechoo/Tameu by the Whiskey Avengers. Two thumbs up for the DOH podcast as they finish the latest episode strong despite the barren wasteland that is offseason hockey news in the Bay Area. More from Doug Santana and Mike Peattie can also be found at Sharks Hockey Analysis.
Completely unrelated topic, but if you like your Russian end of communism allegories in zombie slasher movie/music video form then Gorbochov the Music Video, Bigger and Russianer by ANJ is for you. Warning, you can not unwatch this video.
For a team that has gone 44 years without a championship, the Los Angeles Kings are a fascinating study on so many levels. In their history, they've made just one trip to the Stanley Cup final (1993) and may have even won the thing if Marty McSorley hadn't been caught using an illegal stick, right at the point that they were about to take a 2-0 lead, on the road, against the Montreal Canadiens.
It's been mostly downhill for the 15 seasons since – 11 years out of the playoffs, three first-round exits, plus one memorable upset win over a 111-point Detroit Red Wings in 2001, with coach Andy Murray behind the bench.
