Buffalo Rumblings Putting Sunday's Win In Perspective.....

Over the last 15 years, five teams (including our beloved Bills) have scored a TD on every possession in the second half. Only one team scored more than 4 TDs. Yes, it's our Bills, all alone! I don't know how many times, if any,  it was done since the NFL inception, but we know it is exceedingly rare and we know that that little cheater Tom Baby has never done it. Get him Dareus, he is the real reason why you were drafted number three; step on him, it is the only way. Crush him Kyle, you have help now, and they have your back; go get him. Run him over Merriman, it is time to go Lights Out. There isn't a more veteran LB unit in the NFL, know what that little cheater Belicheat is trying to do and put an end to it; snuff it out. Kelsay, show us you can play, Andra, knock one of those names off that punk RB and just splat that little one! C'mon Leodis, Flo, Mr. Wilson and Jarius, get that frigin' ball and take it the other damn way! Our defense is built to win now, not in the future. Look at it.  It is a veteran unit and Nick Barnett is in charge.  We have to play fast, we have to play violent, and most of all, we have to play smart. No mistakes, it is week 3 now and you are all best friends; move as one and win this game.

We are two and 0 now, make it 3 and 0.

Let's win it all this year! Why the hell not?

Go Bills!

Yeeeeeaaaahhhhhh! Kill! Kill! Kill! I hate those frigin' patsie cheaters! 12 years of frustration condensed into 3 hours of revenge! Get them and destroy them!

Huh? Post went kinda nutty there, oh well.

Buffalo Rumblings Merriman!

Shawn Merriman's value to the Buffalo Bills this year cannot be overstated. With a healthy Merriman the sky is the  limit for our D this year.  He is, without a doubt, one of the top 5 defensive players overall in the NFL if he is healthy. With him, our other top players Marcel Dareus and Kyle Williams become that much more effective because running backs will choose to chip Merriman instead of watching the interior at times and Merriman will force QBs to step-up into Dareus/Williams country. In return, Marcel and Kyle will make Merriman's job that much easier. Something happens to a defense when you become excellent in two areas; defensive coordinators become head coaches and star quarterbacks start to look human.

Our defense needs a leader, someone to show them how it is done. Someone who will demand accountability on the field ala Ray Lewis in Baltimore. Only Merriman can command that much respect from other NFL players. Merriam will get our D to believe it can play with and beat anyone. Merriman will get everybody on the D throwing their body around and working hard as they can to be not a good defense, but a great one.

I will go on to say that with a healthy Merriman, our young offense would improve as well. In the NFL, if you make a mistake, there is a good chance that it is going to snowball. With a stout defense, our young receivers and backs will get more second chances to gain that all-important confidence that you need to succeed in the big league. Our quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick is a bonafide starter for the first time entering a season in his NFL career. He too could benefit from having more chances to establish himself. I have seen a lot of players over the years that I think would have succeeded had they more opportunity. I cannot stress this enough.

You never know what twist and turns a NFL team will encounter throughout a full season. Football prognosticators are horribly mistaken each and every year about several teams. There are great things and not so good things that happen every year that were unforeseen by everybody. Shawn Merriman is a force of nature; he hedges our chances greatly that good things are going to happen to us. I hope he can get back to 100% and lead us into the playoffs.

Go Bills!

Buffalo Rumblings Lost: Practice Squad.....

This is a two-part blurb really. I was wanting to see LB  Jammie Kirlew's history and came upon some other information, but Kirlew first....

The 6'3" 260 lb. DE out of Indiana was a seventh round draft pick of the Broncos in 2010. He waived by the Broncos on 9/3/2010 and signed by the Bills on 11/23/2010. I don't know if he was anywhere in between but Sporting news ranked him the 15th best DE predraft and he was nominated for the Ted Hendricks award along with Aaron Maybin (Jerry Hughes won it). Here is what CBS Sports thought of him before the 2010 draft; it is pretty impressive.....

I also have a question about Kirlew....does anyone know which linebacker position the Bills are trying him at?

The thing that I noticed in looking for Kirlew info is that our 7 practice squad players from the end of the season are not listed on our roster. Nor were they waived according to the Bills' transaction list. They are LB John Russell,  DBs Trae Williams and Bret Johnson, OL  Sean Allen, WRs Bobby Williams and Rod Windsor, and DL Boo Robinson.

Do we still have them? Are they in limbo? Are they not worthy of mention? Did Chixy forget we signed them? Is Chris Brown sleeping on the switch? What's the dealio?

Extemely news-hungry Bills fans' want to know! (well I do anyway...)

interesting stuff, I think.......

So I have two questions, any help?

gobills!

Buffalo Rumblings Dareus, come up to play-yay

In Marcel Dareus, the Bills have a player that could put us back on the NFL map. How often does your second and third round picks mention your first round pick in their first Buffalo press call?
"The Bills is a great organization and a great team. I’ve got Marcell there, so we’re going to try to bring as many wins as possible," said  Aaron Williams (no relation to J.D.) the Texas CB who famously ended Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford's college career. Aaron Williams certainly knows the massive DE who famously ended Texas QB Colt McCoy's college career.
Our third-rounder, Kelvin Sheppard , had this to say, "and I see we’ve got big Marcell (Dareus) up front in front of me so I’m going to try to get his big butt fired up before those games so he can keep the linemen off of me (laughs).''  Apparently, the LSU captain has heard of the Bruce Smith Bubble-butt theory and knows what that bill-board sized butt can do.

Will Marcel become a automatic probowler? I think it's going to come down to the marraige betwwen the Bills' coaches and Marcel. The Bills have 3 coaches that could really help Marcel to reach his full potential in Gailey, Wannstedt and George Edwards. All three have father-figure personalities that could go a long way when Marcel is tired of lifting weights and just wants a frigin' big mac. I hope the Bills ask Bruce Smith to come by with a present for Marcel, his very own stair master or as Bruce calls it, a bubble-butt maker.

Buffalo Rumblings All-Defense Mock Draft....(nearly)

Well, I gave it a shot. I didn't do a short trade-down but I hope they do. I didn't get enough southern players either probably.

1 (3) - Von Miller - OLB - Nix knows speed kills and believes the Senior, Captain, weight-lifting, lightning-in-a-bottle Miller will do everything that is ask of him to become a NFL star.

2 (34) - Cameron Heyward - DE -He falls to the Bills' here because of his lack of burst which is just fine with Buffalo as he'll be playing mostly 5 technique to keep our LB's (ie: Miller time) clean. The Bills' brass also think he'll be able to do more in time.

3 (68) - Marcus Gilbert - OT - The big and nasty right offensive-tackle  from florida will be serious competition for Eric Pears. One will start, the will be number two OT.

4 (100) - Chimdi Chekwa - CB - Keep the Ohio Sate to Buffalo cornerback train a-comin'

4(122)  - Casey Mathews - ILB - What could go wrong? He's a Mathews....

5(133) - Joe Lefeged - SS - Tough-guy special-teamer has potential.

6 (169) - Greg Mc Elroy - QB - He will  be our third QB this year.

7 (206) - Scott Lutrus - ILB - Bills' take a chance on good prospect prone to neck stingers.

7(245) - Cecil Shorts lll - WR - All-purpose player has a shot. Adds speed to WR corps.

Priorty FAs -Josh Thomas - CB - played for Buffalo, The Bills have only 5 CBs, nuff sed.  Alex Wujiak - ILB - Maryland. Tough-guy will take on guards. Allen Bradford - RB - Southern California - Will be brought in to see if he can be a short-yardage specialist/special teamer.

Buffalo Rumblings J.J. Watt = Adam Carriker?

JJ Watt often gets compared to Adam Carriker and rightly so. They both had stellar college careers, terrific senior bowls and very impressive NFL combines which raised their draft stock. On film, they were both big, lanky, strong, and fast looking college defensive ends that displayed real toughness and hustle. Entering the draft some analysts worried that Carriker might be a DT/DE tweener. Others questioned if he could get his shoulder-pad height low enough for the pros. They questioned if his impressive combine numbers would show up on NFL stat sheets the next year. Naturally, J.J. Watt is getting the same concerns. Is Watt another Carriker? First, let’s look at Carriker’s pro career to see how Carriker is doing and what he is…

In 2007, the St. Louis Rams did not share the concerns of others and drafted Adam Carriker in the first round, 13th overall. In his rookie year, the Rams moved him to the 3-technique, tackle position in a 4-3. His rookie year was considered a disappointment but he did win the Rams rookie of the year award and started all 16 games (how bad could he be? Certainly not Maybin bad). In his 2nd year, he was beat out in camp for his starting spot and battled injuries all year long of a forgettable season. He suffered a severe, season-ending shoulder injury in 2009. This finished his time in St. Louis as they traded him, dirt-cheap, to the Washington Redskins before the 2010 season. Last year, for the Skins, he switched positions and played the 3-4 end, five-technique spot that most projected would be his best position pre-draft. Again, he started all 16 games and was labeled a good get with further potential by many Skins’ sources.

Jim Haslett, our ex-Bill, strangely enough coached Carriker for the Rams and now coaches him for the Skins. He had this to say about Carriker, “In St. Louis, we tried to make him a 3-technique and up-the-field rusher. For a guy who ran the 40 in 4.7 and was 6-6, 315 pounds, you'd think he could do that. But that's not what he wants to do. He wants to play with strength and power, and he does a pretty good job of it. He feels so much more comfortable in this." It sounds as if Haslett thinks that Carriker is held back by some sort of mental problem with playing athletically in the NFL. He certainly feels Carriker could do it if he wanted to.

So far, you would have to say that Carriker, although a bust at 13 for the Rams, could end up with a nice career as a 5-tech DE for the Skins and even has some late-bloomer potential. This, after recovering from a severe injury; is his total bust label deserved? He’s only really played two seasons, and can you fault the Rams GM or Carriker himself, forall the injuries? He was not injury prone in college, so I would have to say no.

Carriker’s junior college stats are very similar to J.J. Watt’s but also to another player; Ndamukong Suh (see below). What’s the difference between Suh and Carriker? They both came back for their senior seasons and where Carriker had slightly poorer yet excellent stats, Suh had a monstrous season of utter domination. That is why good general managers want seniors instead of juniors. If J.J. Watt went back for his senior season, would his numbers be closer to Carriker’s or Suh’s?

Well, taking a hard look at the stats, the first thing you notice is that Carriker played one less game than Watt so you have to take that into account. The next thing you notice is  that Watt had 16 more solo tackles and I think that is a big enough difference to at least take note of. Their total tackles behind the line of scrimmage is a wash at 26.5 for Carriker and 28 for Watt. Turnovers are where you see the biggest difference: 6 to 1 in favor of Watt. Watt also blocked 3 kicks for the Badgers as a junior. Maybe this nose for the ball is what separates the two? Maybe this will allow Watt to play up to his athleticism sooner rather than later?

Both Suh and Carriker wowed scouts and fans alike at the NFL combine, but Watt took it to a whole-new level (see below). In a league where 2 tenths of a second makes a huge difference in what round you are drafted, I think that a 3.5” higher and 10” further jump is highly significant. Especially as these are your explosion tests, along with bench press reps (and Watt wins that test as well with 2 more reps.)

Intangibles and intelligence? Again all three score very high in both categories. All three were tough leaders of their teams that didn’t take plays off and didn’t make the paper off-field. Carriker and Suh were Nebraska honor roll students and Watt is an Academic All- American. Both Suh and Carriker are great kids as far as I can find out but once again, Watt is just exceptional. His non-football track-record is simply outstanding.

I will admit that Watt looks exactly like Carriker on film, but just how bad of a thing is that? Carriker was awesome for Nebraska. Maybe he just needs to go to a 3-4 defense and not get a severe injury? Maybe all the little pluses in Watt’s favor are what he needs to separate himself from Carriker and his inability to quickly evolve his game against the world’s best? For me, it seems like I always want the Bills to draft D-line guys. I really liked John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth, Marcus Stroud, and Haloti Ngata coming out of college and I think I like J.J. Watt more than any of them. Maybe because he’s an end like our beloved Bruce Smith. I really hope he doesn’t go to any team I really hate (about half the NFL.)

- GO BILLS!

Buffalo Rumblings more amazing JJ Watt news....

I was marveling at JJ Watt's combine numbers again and I wondered if I could find info on the best DL numbers of all-time as Watt's gotta be right up there. I couldn't find that exactly, but what I did find could be even better as it includes player stats in it's evaluation. It is from the broncos version of buffalo rumblings and the rest will be explained very well by the article's author. Don't forget to marvel at JJ Watt's results.....and gobills!

Buffalo Rumblings JJ....

Watt?

The purpose of this post is not to convince anyone that JJ Watt can play, his film and stats do that. The purpose of this post is to get people to realize that the maybe the skies are the limit for JJ Watt. I wanted to see how watt's combine numbers matched-up with the other D-linemen in this year's draft and I found it....when you combine his thru the ceiling intangibles and his body of work, with his combine numbers you have ask yourself, "why isn't he worthy of  the 3rd pick overall?" (assuming we won't and/or can't trade down).

Let's look at the numbers.....

http://www.steelersdepot.com/2011-nfl-combine-results-defensive-linemen/

Watt is the 2nd tallest defensive lineman. He is the 3rd heaviest defensive end (behind dareus and heyward). Arm lengths run from 31" to 35 3/8", Watt has respectable 34" arm. Watt is tied with cameron jordan for biggest hands in the draft at 11 1/8". This is important, his hands are very powerful; good for striping, tackling, getting the ball etc. His 40 time was 3rd lowest for DL over 270 lbs. He was tied for 3rd on 225lb bench press reps at 34. Just a ridiculous number for a lanky end. Watt had the 2nd highest verticle jump at 37" The only guy who beat him was donte moch who measures 6'1" and 248lbs. Again, this number is important and ridiculously awesome. It is important as it is said to measure explosion, along with the broad jump, 20 yd shuttle and 3-cone drill. His broad jump was ten feet and good for 3rd. Patrick kerrigan beat him by 0.2" and the little guy beat him again. He easily came in second in the 20 yd. shuttle at 4.21 seconds. Easily! And finally, he was one of three players to break the 7 sec. barrier in the 3 cone drill. The guy is as freakish athletically as anyone in the draft; anyone. The guy didn't play DE until 2009, I think when you put everything together, it means he could get waaaaay better at playing DE.

Watt is a brutely strong, tough, smart, athletic football player's football player. Why not at three?

He is exactly Watt were looking for.

He looks like some frigin' moose out there, on the field. In fact, that should be his nick-name: JJ MOOSE!

Watt?

gosabres!

Buffalo Rumblings Patients wanted...surgeon preferred....

With Patrick Peterson's awesome skill-set soberly staring Bills' fans in the face, like some giant monster in a empty room, it's time to run away and talk surgery. Yeah!  Wahoo!

If D'Quan Bowers' never tore his meniscus, he'd probably be gone by pick 3. He is a perfect fit as a 3-4 end, a guy who could really help against the run and pass. If healthy, he could make a huge impact as a rookie in our greatest area of need. So, is this a giant opprotunity to get a great 10-year dominant DE? Or, is it a story of what could have been for Mr. Bowers?

A friend of mine tore his ACl and meniscus and he says for him, it is more of a pain thing than anything else. It was enough pain to end playing his favorite sport; soccer. He had his surgery in Buffalo about twenty-five years ago.....How much have they improved this surgery since then? And, how much does it matter to have the best surgeon available (never mind that Bowers didn't even tear his ACL!) So, how about it Bills' fans, what do you think is Bowers' immediate and long term NFL prognosis? POLL BELOW....

As an aside topic, I would like to say that JJ Watt is racing up my draft board....I say that there is no way Watt busts.....

Buffalo Rumblings It Will Be Marcel Dareus At Three….

Let us count the reasons….

- He is a SEC Alabama good ‘ol southern born boy and our southern brain trust just loves the south.

- He is not a one year wonder. Yeah, you’d like more experience and production, but you can look at enough film to see he’s just a bear. His production is average but he has to face double teams in the big, bad SEC nearly every play.

- He fills a huge need perfectly. A DT/DE that is already excellent at stacking and shedding or just anchoring. He is what you need when you are already blessed with a small, penetrating, probowl DT/NT. He is what you need to help you stop the run. What makes him so valuable is that he can shoot gaps and grab smaller, quicker players with surprising quickness and agility. In other words, he’s equally adept no matter the down or distance. No other player in the draft matches the Bills better, when you consider both need and overall talent.

- Nick Fairley will be gone. Fairly is just a better overall athlete with awesome production. He doesn’t fit as well for the Bills because he’s never asked to anchor, and he probably thinks that’s a waste of his talent. He also has less game tape and more off-field issues. Should he somehow fall, I hope we take him, because I dream of what he could be if he maximizes his vast potential. Although I’ll admit, it’s a very close call because Marcel is the safer pick and fits best now.

- Marcel fills our brain trust’s public desire to get bigger, stronger and tougher in our front 7. At 6’3” - 309 lbs. the film shows he is an excellent anchor and his strong, long arms and mighty hands are built to battle OT’s. You have to be big, strong, tough and humble to do what he did for Alabama.

- He is a winner. A 2009 national champ and game MVP. And a 2010 capitol one bowl winner (destroyer?) and All-SEC Football First Team player in 2010. The Bills like to talk about getting players that are used to winning; especially in the context of trying to turn around a losing team.

- Versatility – Can play end in a 3-4 or tackle in a 4-3 equally well and as stated before, he plays the run and pass equally well. Having both of these qualities is not common and would be utilized much in Buffalo.

- Patrick Peterson will point out the total ineptness of the Bills over the last 10 years and that will not excite fans or sell tickets. He also doesn’t make us much bigger, stronger or tougher as he is not known for his play against the run. He’s more of a Deon and less of a Winfield (which isn’t bad in any way, but we need tough guys now.) He also doesn’t fit the mold of building a team from the inside-out philosophy.

- The top pass rushers are all flawed. They’re either small, one year wonders, coming off a suspension or some combination of these ills. And they’re not going to help stop the run as well as Dareus will; and stopping the run is our number one off-season priority. Also, the Bills, for some dumb reason, seem to believe OLBs are not as high of a priority as DEs.

- The top QBs played in a spread offense and Gailey devalues QBs who have to learn how to play pro football. He won’t take one at three.

Wow, in writing this post, I’ve at least, convinced myself it will be Dareus at three. Well, fellow-rumblers, what do you think? Comments? Complaints? Please vote :)

Buffalo Rumblings Buffalo Bills Fantasy Fix

I, like a lot of Buffalo Bills’ Fans, own Fast Freddy Jackson and Stevie Touchdown Johnson in a fantasy league. I am headed to the playoffs now, and I will admit that, without my week 4 (Freddy) and week 5 (Stevie) waiver acquisitions, I wouldn’t have made it.

However, the list of, “bad things man” that happened to the Buffalo Bills and/or their fantasy owners over the last two weeks is getting long….. a rebuilt offensive line, a rebuilt defensive front-seven (can the D get off the field?) –  And there's Stevie Johnson’s psychic collapse and lastly, C.J. Spiller’s return to health.

When I add to that list the history of the last few horribly inept Bills-Browns games, I real start to question if it’s time to drop my golden eggs for other similar players.

My alternative  players for this week would be Jonathon Stewart, Carolina and Anquan Boldin, Baltimore.

Stewart has returned to health and has come on the last two weeks. He clearly is the main RB this week as he gets Atlanta at home.

Bolden, with a shaky Flacco most of the season, has mostly under-produced. He had a very good game last week and faces the worst secondary in the NFL at Houston this week. You couldn’t ask for a better matchup but his number of targets are well below Stevie Johnson’s and he has not put back-to-back games together all-season. I really like Anquan Boldin and I can’t come to grips with his under-production.

Anyway, I can’t decide what to do, and I figure there must be a lot of other Bills' fans in the same boat. This got me thinking it would be fun to take a poll and read some comments….

Buffalo Rumblings Who's Your Guy at Strong Safety?

Man, we are deep at SS! Here is Chris Brown's article on the Strong Safety Competition in case you've missed it. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-3/12---Who-will-be-the-starting-strong-safety/a44f9cbb-c3be-4018-944c-cb0dc8c088c3

My guy is definately George Wilson. He appears to be a real good guy, humble etc. He succesfully made a very rare NFL position change which just reeks of character. He's plays tough, hard nosed football. He can cover, has WR hands, is a clear leader (former special teams captain and his quotes ring of leadership skills.) and finally, he hates Dennis the Menace just as much as me. I wish we had more George Wilsons.

Buffalo Rumblings ROSCOE, THAT BUFFALO RASCAL!

Ahhh, Buffalo in July! Lake Erie’s temperature is ideal for swimming and footballs, volleyballs and Frisbees fill the air. The walleye are suspended at 80 feet, and sailboats add sublime beauty to our vast inland sea. The beach bars are hoppin’ and the beaches themselves outstanding; just covered with scantily-dressed babes. There are extras now, migrates; ditching that Florida heat.

Everywhere there are colorful festivals. They are all serving some type of sausage, selling some form of art and playing some kind of music. In essence, parties for the public- they are fun.

And Buffalo Bills’ wide-receiver Roscoe Parrish proves once again that no man can cover the diminutive water bug in June.  Bills’ fans in droves Billieve he will do it again come this September. When the new, smarter coach devises a brilliant way to use him….

Buffalo Rumblings Torrell Troup.....

I was thinking about a fan post I read the other day, I can't remember what the title was or what it was supposed to be about.,but everyone started to talk about Torell Troup and the fact that he has to play well, for our defense to be successful. It struck me as odd because there was little disagreement on this matter.

I was thinking about the truth in that summary, when it dawned on me that he has to play well for the whole team to be sucessful.

Think about it, if he gets shoved all over the field this year, rookie or not, that's a lousy pick. He's a very high draft choice and Nix and Modrak stated that your ones and twos (draft choices) have to be able to play as rookies. I for one, for the most part, agree with that statement.

And if he's a lousy pick, he will remind you of a another lousy pick; John McCargo. McCargo was drafted under the same circumstance as Terrel. Drafted way higher than most had him rated. This continuity suggests perhaps that the same guy drafted them, and that guy would be Tom Modrak . Not only that, but his boss, Buddy Nix approved it. So, it would suggest that it is highly likely that we will have to start from scratch soon, yet again.

So if we want to learn if the Bills new braintrust knows how to find talent, and we do; Torel Troup's rookie season will be as good indicator as anything....

All Hail Torrel Troup!

Terell Troup!

Buffalo Rumblings A Dream Win...

A Dream Win

The date? - September 19th, 2010.

The time? - 3:52 pm.

The place? – Legendary Lambeau Field….

They’re down by 6 with 1:39 left on the clock. Old number 4 takes the field, he looks cool and calm even though he’s taken a beating all day long. He knows the defense is tired now and he knows this is his time.

He reads all-out blitz, and audibles to a go route. Even though he’s engaged with a defensive end, his left tackle makes an all-pro play by picking up the blitzing linebacker with a vicious hand punch. Number four rolls right so to see in between his linemen; he knows he’s little short for an NFL QB. Nevertheless, he fires a strike, it’s good for a thirty-four yard gain.

He looks up at the clock and there’s too much time and reminds his men to stay in bounds. Now, he dissects them like a surgeon, inside draw, screen, slant, boom, boom boom; he’s at the two. With four seconds left he calls his own number, a boot-leg left, it’s a race to the cone with the linebacker bearing down on him. He leaps into the air, and absorbs a big hit that spins him around, but somehow he lands in the end-zone. Triumphant, he gets up and slams the ball into the grass as his team mobs him. He loves all the love, but he’s looking for someone special; his left tackle. He runs to him and leaps as the big guy catches and hugs him….”We did it Jamone! We did it!” he screams. His huge protector hollers back, “Didn’t I tell you!? Didn’t I tell you, Bri-Bri!?”

The Bills win! The Bills win!

Yeeeaaahhhh…..I can’t frigin’ wait!

Buffalo Rumblings CATCH LEFEVOUR

After reading great stuff about Central Michigan star QB Dan Lefevour on the stadium wall, I decided to check him out playing in the GMAC bowl last night versus Troy.

Let's get the minuses out of the way...he looks way too young to lead a NFL club and he's a little smaller than his listed size of 6'3" 238lb, He also never plays under center, but these are just nitpicks. The only real problem is that he lacks the cannon Bills' fans think a QB at the Ralph must possess. After watching Edwards and Fitzpatrick all season you gotta think they may be right.

However, Lefevour by no means has a weak arm, it certainly wouldn't be a problem for a dome team and he has so many positives...most of you know about his ridiculous stats but they bear repeating; nearly 13000 yds, and 102 TD's, to give him a 143 career QB rating. Add to that 3000 rushing yds. and another 47 TD's and you have the holder for the Mid American Conference records for career completions, attempts, passing yards, passing touchdowns, total touchdowns, and total offensive yards. LeFevour is the only player in NCAA history with over 12,000 passing yards and 2,500 rushing yards and currently sits 2nd all time in total offensive yards. He also holds the FBS record for total touchdowns with 150. (whew!)
Watching yesterday, he displayed a nice release, excellent pocket presence, excellent field awareness, excellent mobility and is a fine athelete. Throws well on the run (even backwards), has excellent touch and threw with some mustard at times. He is clearly intelligent, directs traffic, had excellent throw aways, and audibled correctly several times. He managed the game very well, and led his team to his 8th career 4th quarter comeback victory 44-41. His baby-face seemed to disappear with the game on he line, his facial expression looked like e knew he would win(similar to Brady or Manning, or Tebow or Jordan for that matter.)
During the game, which was excellent by the way, he made 5 or 6 huge NFL type plays, my personel favorite was a 2nd and 15 play with 4 minutes left, backed-up on his own ten. Out the the shotgun, the play call was clearly a standard pass out of the pocket. With noone open, he leaned to run to his left, but that hole quickly closed. Not panicking he found an opening to his right and took it. Running with his head up, he began directing traffic. At the last second, with his feet one foot behind the line of scrimage and one yard from out of bounds he let go of a beautiful pass dropping the ball neatly over the shoulder of his receiver, leading him for a 22 Yrd. gain. The announcers kept referring to other great plays but that was my favorite because he was in such a dire situation at the time.
How does he differ from Tebow? He looks more like an elusive QB than a running QB. Seems a little taller and lankier (he could get to 238lbs.) and he doesn't have that hitch in his release. Most importantly, he was born, raised and played in the North! Ofcourse, Tebow is a phenomonon and I would be happy with either of them.
I think, there is little doubt that the senior bowl practices and game (how well can they throw the deep out) will greatly determine what round each of them is taken.
As much as I agree with Bills' fans that believe we need a monster DT and a monster LB, the NFL is all about the QB. Barrng injuries, we have an O-line, with Bell, Levitre, Hangartner, Wood and Butler, being pushed by Simmons, McKinney, Incognito, Meridith and Chambers being pushed by Scott, Ramsey, Gaddis, Hennessey, Watkins and Marvin for a total of 16 O-line men. Barring injuries, they should be able to coach-up 8 of these prospects to protect a QB. They definitely (IMO) put OL to a secondary need in this draft. We have to secure a serious QB prospect in this draft to compete with Brohm and if done correctly, a third QB with clear NFL starting potential.

NOTE: Ray Bentley was having a post-game chat (off-air) with him after the game.

Buffalo Rumblings Bills need GM 1st, coach 2nd....

The favorite pastime of Bills' Fans for over three years and counting is discussing who the Bills should hire as the next head coach.  This year, it's been kicked up a notch with the likes of Bill (spit guard) Cower, Mike (dead eye)Shanahan, John (Chuckie) Gruden, Mike (the walrus) Holmgren and others available.

While most fans agree that Mr. Wilson is too cheap to hire a big name coach, stranger things have happened. Those of you who remember the arrival of Chuck Knox, remember that he did not come out of the bargain bin, so there is presidence.

And while news of of Wilson letting the moths out of his 94 year old wallet and hiring one of the aforementioned superbowl coaches would be meteoric, it may not be wisest decision. You see, all of these household names of football crave the same thing; total control of football operations. None of these coaches have ever proved capable of this feat and two of them, Shanahan and Holmgren, had complete control before and failed.

The wisest move for the Bills would be to invest in a GM and let him hire his guy to coach his team. I now submit to you the guy I would hire if I was Mr. Wilson....drumroll please.....

Chris Polian!

Here is his bio from the Colts media guide....

Vice President of Football Operations

Chris Polian enters his fifth season as Vice President of Football Operations.

and Pro Personnel. Polian served from 2001-03 as Assistant Director of Football

previously served from 1994-1997 with the Carolina Panthers (1994-96, Pro

Scout; 1997, Pro Personnel Coordinator). He was an assistant in player personnel

for the Sacramento Gold Miners in 1993. He earned a bachelor’s degree in

communications from John Carroll University in 1993. Polian was born October

7, 1971, in New York City. Polian is married to the former Debbie Deck of

Mooresville, N.C. They reside with their children, Jack (7), Caroline (5) and Kate (2), in Indianapolis.

I think he would be perfect....and not only that, I don't think it would take too long, our cupboards are not bare.

Buffalo Rumblings Should The Bills Win On Sunday...,

The Bills Will Deserve a Tip of the Hat.

If I asked you a month ago, could the Bills win in Miami minus Paul Poslusny, Brad Butler, Demetrius Bell, Leodis McKelvin, Donte Whitner, Bryan Scott, Derek Schouman and John McCargo, chances are you would reply, "that'll never happen." Then if I said, "suppose it did, could they win?" You'd think about a while, look over the list and then say, "without our two starting tackles! Are you kiddin' me? The starters barely know eachother, never mind the back-ups! And no Poslusny? Our D's captain? And minus 3/4 of our starting secondary? (laugh) And add Shouman and McCargo to boot? This is wedicorish!  There's no way, man. No !@#$%^ way!"

Wouldn't you? <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_1579848-->

Buffalo Rumblings Bills Fans Should Ignore the Naysayers

Ten seasons ago, the St. Louis Rams came out of nowhere as undrafted, third-string quarterback Kurt Warner led the Rams to victory in Super Bowl XXXIV. Two years later, the Rams made it back to the big game, but they were thwarted by an even bigger Cinderella in Tom Brady's New England Patriots. Nobody, and I mean nobody, picked either one of these teams to even make the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl. That alone should be enough proof for any Bills' fan; that in a given year, any team can win the big one. But, if that's not enough for you, more undeniable proof was offered just two seasons ago. In August of 2007, no one was expecting much from the New York Giants. When they opened the season 0-2, they confirmed most fans belief. Funny thing was, they went on to upset a Patriot dynasty and win Super Bowl XLII. Moreover, I believe those 2007 New York Giants, bear an uncanny resemblance to our 2009 Buffalo Bills. And if those G-Men could do it, why can't we? Look at some of those similarities...

- Like head coach Dick Jauron is now, New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was entering into his fourth year as the Giants head man.

- Like Dick Jauron, Coughlin was in his second stint as an NFL head coach.

- And like Jauron, Coughlin entered the 2007 season sitting on the NFL's hottest seat. Rabid Giant fans wanted him out, and the infamous New York media was smelling blood.

- Eli Manning was entering his third year in the league, and many fans questioned whether Peyton's little brother had the right stuff. Sound familiar?

- The Giants had superstar wide-receiver Plaxico Burris who sometimes feels like a nut, the Bills have the king of superstar wide-receivers who sometimes feel like a nut in Terrell Owens.

- Three-headed running-back monster Jacobs, Bradshaw and Ward meet three-headed running-back monster Lynch, Jackson and Rhodes.

- Over the course of the 2007 season, the Giant's developed an extremely successful defensive-line that came at you in waves. Should John McCargo and Chris Ellis be able to make meaningful contributions and Aaron Maybin live up to the hype, the Bills' defensive- line would go nine deep which would allow them to give it their all on every single down, not to mention sustain minor injuries. 'Course, the New York Giants had good defensive-linemen, but let's ignore that for now.

- And last but not least - both teams started Kawika Mitchell at

weak-side linebacker.

So, should the Bills look sloppy this weekend in Green Bay, or God forbid, get blown out on Monday Night Football in week one by Bill Belicheat and those dizzy-freakin' Patriots, don't lose heart Bills' fans. The Buffalo Bills' are a Super Bowl contender until they are mathematically eliminated. Don't listen to the naysayers.
