I suppose I am not what you would call a prototypical 'interwebs' user.
Aficionado of filmscores both current and past, domestic and foreign.
I presently reside in Glendale, yet my heart remains in San Diego. This would leave one to conclude the reposition of home is actually Temecula.

Casey Kelly to have elbow examined in San Diego
Dan Hayes tweeted not too long ago that top pitching prospect Casey Kelly is scheduled to have an MRI on his throwing elbow after he had reported soreness during his last start on Wednesday.
For those who don't know, Kelly was off to a fantastic start in Tucson so far this year. SSS applies but several scouts who were perviously down on Kelly have raved about him recently after seeing him this year. Over the winter the Padres' had made small changes to Kelly's delivery and his fastball has reportedly touched 96mph this year, though it typically sits in the low - mid 90s.
Pitching line at Tucson:
2 GS, 2.25 ERA, 1.60 FIP, 12 IP, 14 K, 0 BB, 3 ER, 52% GB%, 0 HR
Fangraphs: Are the Padres Acquiring the Right Hitters?
"It’s easy/lazy to criticize any deal in which the Padres acquire a hitter by citing Petco’s park effects without digging a little deeper. The Padres have done as much, and are acquiring talent that fits their ballpark. It’s something that we need to consider when evaluating their future deals instead of just assuming the Padres were dumb to acquire another hitter."

John Sickels' Top 20 Padres Prospects for 2012
SBNation's John Sickels posts his Padres' prospect list over at minorleaugeball.com. Safe to say that he is a fan of this farm system.
Midseason Top 10 Padres Prospects
I just posted my Midseaon Top 10 Padres Prospects over at Gaslampball. I will post it here but If you happen to be a member of Gaslampball please check out the post on their site.
I am neither a scout nor evaluator. I just love baseball and the minor leagues. I would love feedback from any and all members here, just please keep it civil.
**Note** I used the same grading scale here that John uses for all of his write-ups.
Preseason and midseason Top 10 Padres Prospect list after the jump.
Midseason Top 10 Padres Prospects
It has been quite some time since I had last posted anything here at Gaslamp Ball and I needed to get back to my roots. It has been a disappointing season to say the least but we should look ever onward towards the future. I think that the organization is finally in good, capable hands and a new era is dawning on the beautiful city of San Diego. Here is a glance at the foundation that is being laid for the Padres.
The grading methodology used here will be the same one that John Sickels uses over at minorleaugeball. If you haven't been over there yet check it out. It's fantastic!
I should note that I am neither a scout nor evaluator. I just love baseball and the Padres. I read and study a lot about their minor league system and watch a lot of the games but that's about it.

Gregg Zaun Set to Retire
Well... This puts a kink in things.
Prospect Smackdown: Simon Castro vs. Casey Kelly
John compares San Diego's top prospects Simon Castro and Casey Kelly over at Minor Leauge Ball.
John Sickels Career Profile: Kyle Blanks
"I know he looked awful last year, but given the injury, given the totality of his track record in the minor leagues, and what I've seen him do in person when he's healthy, I still think he's going to be a fine power hitter."
Yankees Consider Trades for Left Handed Pitchers
'[according to Ken Rosenthal] Joe Saunders, Scott Kazmir, Wade LeBlanc, Clayton Richard and Gio Gonzalez are among the possible targets some Yankees people have "kicked around."'
Not going to happen. I would be curious to see what Cashman would offer for LeBlanc but, despite me not being a LeBlanc fan, I would rather have the starting pitching depth.
Mediocre offseason for the MFY.

Moores Divorce Finally Over
"Documents in San Diego Superior Court show that Padres chairman John Moores and wife Becky have submitted a signed settlement agreement to finalize the dissolution of their marriage. The terms of the settlement were contained in a "confidential envelope" and returned to their attorneys.
As a result, their public divorce trial scheduled for May 9 has been canceled."
Padres Host 18 Top Minor League Prospects
"Pitcher Simon Cadro says, 'It's the first program they had here and its awesome. It's amazing to be here for everybody right now; its very exciting.'
Donavan Dace -who prides himself able to fill post any position on the field- had similar feelings."
I wonder if Everth Cabrea was there.
Anyone Miss Kouz Yet?
In honor of the recent series against the Giants this past week I present you with SCIENCE! I have to say that I still have night terrors regarding Chase Headley roaming left field in spacious Petco Park and am quite thankful that he now occupies his natural position at third base. I for one was happy to see Kevin Kouzmanoff traded for more than just the aforementioned reason but good God! -17.2 UZR in LF?? Anywho, I thought I would check up on the Russian GIDP wonder to see how both he and Chase have stacked up next to each other so far this year.
This is where the science starts.
And the ADD.

Padres to Announce Three-Year Extension with Bud Black on Monday.
The Padres will apparently announce Monday that they agreed to sign Bud Black through 2013 with a club options for both 2014 and 2015.
Jed Hoyer apparently had Cliff Lee on the Padres' radar
Hoyer inquired, but Sullivan says the Padres' GM was "dismissed with some variation of, 'Go away, kid, you bother me.'"
Pads still get no respect.
Three Teams Interested In Jermaine Dye
"...three teams are now expressing interest in free agent slugger Jermaine Dye according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com. Those clubs: the Rangers, Rockies, and Padres."
/sigh
Potentially Available Power Bats
"Several contenders could use a boost in the slugging department, especially the Padres and A's. Let's take a look at potentially available power bats for the trade deadline."
Some Padres Team Stats from the First Month of Play
Just in case anyone was curious here are some stats about our boys from the first month of play that are interesting/encouraging.
- 29 stolen bases, 1st in MLB (The Chicago White Sox are 2nd with 28). They have been caught stealing 6 times which is good for a 83% success rate (Chicago has a 73% success rate, in case you were wondering).
- 2.76 Team ERA, 3rd in MLB only to the Giants (2.72) and the Cardinals (2.56)
- Have pitched 6 shutout games, 1st in MLB.
- Pitching Staff has 205 Ks, 2nd in MLB only to the Chicago Cubs (215 Ks).
- Pitching Staff also has 9 pickoffs, 1st in MLB. The single season record for pickoffs by a pitcher is held by Greg Smith with 15. Wade LeBlanc has 5 in 3 games so far.
What else? Oh yeah. After the first month we are 16 - 9, top of the NL West bitches!!
I wonder what this month will bring.

ESPN asks if Padres are reality or Illusion
The commentary surprised me.
Could they finish with .500? It wouldn't surprise them.
Could they be contenders? They aren't seeing that. At least for now?
Adrian Gonzalez and Heath Bell may not be traded and other teams should hit the panic button in regards to it?
Wait, I thought this was an ESPN article. Nothing makes sense anymore!
Logan Forsythe is Officially Shifting Over to Second Base
One of San Diego's top prospects will be shifting over from a position with extreme depth in the minors to a position in dire need of any kind of depth.
Sounds good to me!
Gonzalez During the Past Winter Off Season and Trade Deadline
Thought this was very interesting.
Dan Hayes over at North County Times reports that apparently, according to a Padres source, no team had actually approached San Diego about a trade involving Adrian Gonzalez during the past winter off season.
Also, Kevin Towers just about pulled the trigger on a 6-for-1 trade involving Gonzalez and the Seattle Mariners. The deal apparently fell through because KT was holding out for one more player.
Huh. How about that?
Baseball America - Top 100 Prospects
Here are the Padres prospects that are listed

#57 - Simon Castro
#82 - Jaff Decker
#90 - James Darnell
Chances of Signing LHP Takahashi Increasing?
LH Starting Pitcher Hisanori Takahashi has turned down offers from the San Francisco Giants, Baltimore Orioles, and the New York Mets.
Has remaining offers from Red Sox, Dodgers, Pirates, and the Padres.
Evidently Takahashi has a problem with the Dodger's offer as they wont offer him a guaranteed roster spot.
Takahashi has a strong preference to pitch in the NL West.
Did our chances of signing this guy just increase? What do you think of him? Do you even care if we land him or not? He seems to have a strong track record with the Giants over in Japan.
Padres Made Offer to Japanese LH Starting Pitcher
35 year old Hisanori Takahashi went 10 - 6 over 25 games last season with the Yomiuri Giants and complied a 2.94 ERA over 144 IP with 126 SO.
The Dodgers, Giants, and Red Sox have also made minor league offers.

Padres, Red Sox, Cubs Blockbuster Trade Rumor
Geez, these Adrian rumors just can't seem to die, can they?
Padres would get Clay Buchholz, Ryan Westmorland, 1 or 2 mid level prospects
Boston would get Adrian Gonzalez, Ryan Theriot
Cubs would get Jacoby Ellsbury
Pads sign OF Chris Denorfia
San Diego Padres sign OF Chris Denorfia to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training.
Hit .271, 9HRs, 49 RBIs, 15 SBs over half of last season in Oakland's AAA affiliate.
.279/.356/.380 over 208 MLB PAs with both CIN and OAK.
